Lilith
I looked past Casper’s alluring eyes as many thoughts lined up in my mind.
I opened my mouth to speak, but immediately shut it as words failed me.
A trembling breath rolled off my lips, and I swallowed the uncertainty in my throat.
I’ve never been this tempted!
At the same time, I didn’t want to appear desperate.
But then, how could I say no to my biggest crush, who was also my boss?
It was like a dream come true, and I’ve dreamt of days like this.
Goddess knew how badly I wanted to be close to him. Aside from digging up his past, I couldn’t help but feel this strange feeling of being drawn towards him.
It was like a bond between us. It got stronger each time we met.
A part of me feels there is more to our sudden feelings. But since there wasn’t any tangible explanation, I let it slide.
It would have made sense if he were my mate. All the feelings, the sparks, and the attraction to Jo’s scent would have been validated.
My gaze was locked on his, and a dull ring formed in his eyes. They vanished before I could have a second look.
Seems his wolf was fighting to take over.
I would love to see his wolf side.
“But, Alpha, you stated that no one was allowed on this floor,” I repeated the rules in my head, glaring at him with curious eyes.
“That rule is not applicable when it comes to you. Now stop yapping and vacate that room downstairs,” he ordered in an authoritative tone that left me blushing like a fool.
I got off his bed, dropping the shirt. His strong hand pulled me, making me lose balance and fall on his body.
“You can spend the night here if you are still scared,” he suggested in a seductive voice.
“No, you are my boss!” I said, gritting my teeth before pulling myself away from his embrace.
The nightmare didn’t bother me anymore. My fear was Raphael bumping into me.
After his drama in the morning, I wish I didn’t have to see his accusatory face ever again because I knew he wouldn’t let it slide.
“You can keep the shirt. I have a lot of them.” He said, and I mouthed a thank you before going downstairs into my room.
I sank onto my bed, inhaling his scent via the black shirt.
At once, all my worries were forgotten, like a ship into the thin air.
Something good was finally happening in my life after a series of obstacles.
Who cares about being knocked up by a vegetable when Alpha Casper showered me with affection?
He even dared to break the rules, and he wasn’t ashamed of letting Raphael see us in an awkward position.
It was safe to say Alpha Casper was falling in love with me as the day went by.
But what about Marina? His ex. What if she comes back to reclaim what belongs to her?
Would he fight for us?
The beeping of my phone interrupted my thoughts, and I almost rolled my eyes when the doctor’s name flashed on the screen.
Didn’t I just tell him to give me some time to think about it?!
I grabbed my phone, reading the message carefully.
He whined about how the family of the vegetable man wanted an urgent answer. He ended it by reminding me of the generous offer attached to it.
A smirk played on my lips as I replied to his message, turning down the offer before dropping my phone noisily on the nightstand.
I don’t need a sick offer from a vegetable.
I know who my heart belongs to.
It will be sad to hurt Alpha Casper’s feelings.
I sucked in air down my lungs, feeling proud of myself.
My eyes peered into space, daydreaming that I didn’t know when Alpha Casper strolled in.
“I’ve cleaned your room. You can move in now,” he announced with a proud look on his face.
I craned my head to meet his with a look of disbelief on my face.
“You did? Thank you,” I whispered, breathless in surprise.
His scent tickled my nose, and I had a firm grip on the edge of my outfit to keep me from losing myself.
Anna’s voice perched outside the door, making me gasp in fear.
But when she walked in the direction of the kitchen, I felt instant relief.
She wasn’t different from Raphael. Her questions were unending.
“Are you worried that Anna would start suspecting us?” He threw in, taking me off balance.
“Us?” I asked, almost choking.
What does he mean by us?
Maybe I misheard.
He took a short stride towards me before grabbing a chair and sitting opposite me.
“Yes, us,” he repeated affirmatively.
But we weren’t in any relationship?
Or does he think we are a thing because we shared the night together?
“What is that supposed to mean?” I asked, looking deeply into his eyes with my heart almost jumping out of my chest.
“Isn’t it obvious? Everything I do for you, doesn’t it ring a bell?” He applied before swallowing, and my eyes lingered on the rapid movement of his Adam’s apple.
“I don’t understand?” I stated, feigning ignorance.
I bit my inner cheeks, masking my emotions to refrain myself from blushing hard.
I couldn’t wait for him to spill the damn words.
“You are my Boss…” I continued, reminding him about the rules unconsciously.
“I know, and it might spike jealousy between you and your friend, Anna. That is why…” he halted, letting out a deep breath before gulping.
“That is why what?” I asked impatiently before mentally scolding myself for giving myself away.
“I cease to be your boss!”
Those words came off his lips like thunder. It shook me down to my core and plastered me with shock.
Was he firing me?!
But, I haven’t done anything wrong?
Except spending the night in his bed and breaking the rules.
But he seemed fine with it, and he even wanted more.
Maybe Raphael finally poisoned him by making him hate me.
He had a fight with his Beta because of me. Of course, he would choose me over him. I was a stranger, and Raphael was like his brother.
The impact of his words hit me like a heavy bulldozer, and at once, my body went numb.
I didn’t know how to react, but I knew I wanted to sit under the shower and bawl my eyes out.
How could he dump me after leading me on?
That explained the reason he paid me more than my salary required.
He wanted to get rid of me?! It all made sense now.
I was just a tool in his hands that foolishly gave herself away.
A wave of betrayal and pain clung to my heart, and my breathing became heavy.
It took a lot to stop my face from turning red as I was on the verge of breaking down in tears before him.
But I won’t. I won’t give him the pleasure of seeing me in pain.
The bitter taste of betrayal lodged on the tip of my tongue, making me look away from him in sadness and anger.
I feel used.
I was such a fool for allowing him to play me.
Now, he abandoned me in the middle of nowhere.
Why did I even reject the doctor’s offer?
Now I had no salary, no job, and nothing to fall back on.
How would I cater to my mum and my sister’s medical bills?
Clearing my throat, I blinked back the tears that gathered around my eyes. “Are you firing me? Did I do something wrong?”
Despite hiding the pain in my voice, it betrayed me.
“I know I shouldn’t have mixed work with pleasure, I…” I stopped, unable to speak as I almost choked on my tears.
Disbelief clouded his eyes as he threw me a dazed look. “Don’t be ridiculous. I wouldn’t offer you a space on the last floor if I was firing you. What are you thinking?”
A gust of relief hit me, making me let out a deep breath.
“So why don’t you want to be my boss anymore?” I asked in a confused tone, swallowing hard.
He was hard to comprehend most of the time.
He leaned closer, covering the space between our faces as his minty breath hit me.
His sharp eyes dug into my soul, and his large, warm hands enveloped my small ones.
“I think I’m falling in love with you, Lilith. I can’t help it.”
