Georgia’s brows knitted tightly as she shot a sharp, displeased look. Her voice carried a distinct chill. “Borrow my husband? What kind of bullshit is that? Kayden isn’t some object. If you want his help, ask him yourself.”
Leah, with a fawning smile plastered on her face, quickly tried to smooth things over. “I’m just trying to show you some respect, okay? He is your husband, after all.”
Georgia let out a cold snort, thinking to herself, “Oh, so you do remember he’s my husband!”
But before Georgia could say more, something completely unexpected happened. Leah turned to Kayden. Her bright eyes were fixed on him as she spoke sweetly, “Kayden, can you give me a ride to school later? And if it comes up, could you pretend to be my boyfriend? I really don’t want to deal with those pathetic losers who won’t leave me alone!”
Georgia nearly choked on her food. She doubted if she had misheard! Her sister-this shameless little sister-was asking her husband to pose as her boyfriend! The sheer audacity of it left her reeling. Her eyes bore into Kayden as if telling him, “If you even think about saying yes, don’t bother coming home!”
And yet, outwardly, she kept her tone casual. “Sure, go ahead. I’ve got plans tonight anyway.”
Kayden completely missed the storm brewing behind her gaze. He nodded earnestly. “Okay, that works. I happened to be thinking of staying over for a couple of days.”
Georgia froze, then exploded in a fit of silent rage. She slammed her fork onto the table. This man is so dense that he couldn’t read a single hint if it were written in neon lights! “I’m full,” Georgia said curtly, standing abruptly. “You two enjoy. And Leah, don’t forget to wash the dishes when you’re done.”
With that, she stormed upstairs in a sulk.
Leah blinked in confusion and let out a puzzled “huh” before turning to Kayden. “What’s up with my sister?”
Kayden, oblivious as ever, shrugged lightly. “Maybe she has something on her mind.”
Leah had just finished the noodles in her bowl when she glanced over at Georgia’s, which was almost untouched. She frowned. “She’s not going to eat such delicious noodles?”
Without a second thought, she grabbed Georgia’s bowl and continued slurping the noodles down.
Leah was exactly this kind of person-spontaneous and thoughtless, acting on her own impulses without ever pausing to think.
In the evening.
Kayden drove off in the sleek Mercedes he’d gifted Georgia, with Leah in the passenger seat.
Georgia stood helplessly by the window gazing after them. A deep sigh escaped her lips. “Kayden really has no idea what I’m feeling,” she thought bitterly. “I’m this upset, and he still insists on going. How am I supposed to feel about him now? Does he really want to leave me here all alone?”
After being lonely for so long, it finally came the day he came back and decided to stay the night. Didn’t he want to do what was left unfinished between them last time?
A wave of insecurity washed over Georgia. Was she no longer attractive to him? He hadn’t seen her in months, and wasn’t he eager to spend time with her? Or was it that he really preferred younger girls like Leah? Well, what man doesn’t like dating young girls, after all?
Her lips curled in frustration as she muttered under her breath, “What a fool. An idiot! How can he not even know my feelings!”
But then, Georgia gave a quick slap to her forehead and chided herself, “Georgia, what are you even thinking? They are your sister and your husband! Stop overthinking!”
Just then, her phone rang. She looked at the screen and saw it was Old Mrs. Adams calling.
The call connected, and Old Mrs. Adams’ familiar voice rang out from the other end. “Georgia, come over! I’m waiting for you at home.”
Georgia sighed softly, shrugging her shoulders with a touch of helplessness. What had started as a flimsy excuse about having evening plans had suddenly turned into a real errand she couldn’t escape!
The truth was, Kayden genuinely believed Georgia had something important to do, which was why he had agreed to take Leah out instead. Little did he realize that he’d entirely missed the undercurrent of Georgia’s mood and her jealousy of Leah.
Today, Leah had applied light makeup and was dressed in a pair of casual overalls paired with a crisp white shirt. The outfit radiated a fresh, youthful charm, making her look every bit the picture of a carefree student. She loved this simple, clean style, and it suited her perfectly, amplifying her natural, breezy appeal.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Leah chattered on endlessly with Kayden as if determined to recount every single thing that had happened to her recently. It was like she wanted to tell him her entire life story in one car ride!
Kayden kept his hands on the wheel, but his expression was a perfect picture of reluctant endurance. At one intersection, he nearly missed the turn. Leah yelped, her voice urgent. “Hey, hey, hey! We’re heading to the Hiphia Sports Center for the performance!”
“Aren’t you supposed to be going to school?” Kayden frowned.
Leah gave a cheeky laugh. “I would not let you drive me if I were going to school.”
“Coco Franklin is holding a concert in Hiphia today, and there’s no way I’m missing it! She’s my idol!” High school is the time for fangirling. They spend all their free time talking about their idols.
“Oh, by the way, have you heard of Coco? She’s everywhere lately! She just dropped a few electrifying tracks, and her voice-oh my gosh, her voice! It’s like pure heaven. She went from a nobody to a top-tier pop sensation practically overnight! Honestly, it’s impossible not to admire her. Not just me-half my school is totally obsessed with her!”
Kayden let out a cold, mocking laugh. “Who knows? Maybe I’m her idol.”
Leah rolled her eyes. “That’s the lamest joke I’ve heard all day.”
In truth, Kayden was the undisputed icon of Seclela. To people of status and influence, he wasn’t just an icon; he was a respected legend. Like the late Kendall, he also took Kayden as the icon. But for someone as proud as Kayden, the idea of him looking up to anyone was laughable.
The world saw him as a figure to worship, their gazes always lifted in awe. In his presence, even the boldest would bow, their confidence crumbling into trembling reverence. Yet in Kayden’s eyes, anyone else was equally insignificant.
His pride was an unshakable fortress. To idolize someone? To worship anyone? That was beneath him.
He’s a once-in-a-generation genius, a soldier to guard the nation’s gates!
Crowned the War God. Who could dare challenge him?
It wasn’t long before Kayden pulled up at the sports center. The moment they stepped out of the car, a group of young men and women flocked toward them.
“Whoa, Leah, you little rich bitch. Rolling up in a Benz? That’s next-level!” A girl about Leah’s age darted forward, giving her a playful thumbs-up.
The girl was chewing gum. She had sweet, delicate features, but she was the very picture of a rebellious teenager, much like Leah herself.
Leah clicked her tongue dismissively. “Isn’t that standard? Don’t forget who you’re talking to.”
Ever since Kayden had made her shine in the limelight, Leah had effortlessly claimed the title of the school’s queen bee!
“Oh, right, let me introduce you.” Leah gestured toward the girl. “This is Susan, my roommate.”
Kayden barely spared Susan a glance. Kids like her didn’t interest him in the slightest. No matter how attractive, he wasn’t one to be swayed by beauty.
“Leah, there you are!” Another voice chimed in, and Myra emerged from the side. She was dressed in skintight dance leggings and a matching top. It’s obvious that she’d just come from dance practice.
Her form-fitting attire clung to her like a second skin, highlighting her every graceful curve. She looked absolutely stunning, breathtakingly so. If she walked down the street like that, heads would turn, and some lonely bachelors might fail to keep their composure.
Forget the bachelors. Even the two boys standing behind the group of girls were rooted to the spot, their eyes glued to Myra, utterly mesmerized.
