Karlee glared at Darnell. Though she was only eighteen, she had met many jerks, but never a man like Darnell.
“I admit defeat. Are you going to pay up?”
Darnell continued to wave his hand dismissively. “Are you just spouting nonsense?”
Karlee gritted her teeth. “You’re such a jerk.”
“A promise is a promise.”
Darnell sneered, “You don’t even give me the half-million, and you dare talk about keeping promises.”
If she could strangle Darnell ten times, Karlee wouldn’t stop at nine. This guy was pushing her to her limits.
“I want you to race me with all you’ve got. Even if you lose, I’ll give you half a million. But I don’t want you to give up like this.”
Darnell lifted his head, his demeanor full of disdain. “You won’t keep your word anyway.”
The red light turned green.
Darnell ignored Karlee and stepped on the gas pedal, driving forward at a steady pace.
Just a hundred meters out, a Maserati roared up beside him.
Karlee shouted at Darnell while gripping the steering wheel, “You arrogant prick! If you don’t race me, I won’t let it go.”
“You have to race me!”
“If you race me with all you’ve got, win or lose, I’ll give you a million.”
Karlee was persistent, her pout alluring. “But you must give it your all.”
Ever since she saw Darnell chasing Nick down the road, Karlee had wanted to race him, but she only remembered part of his license plate number and couldn’t find him.
Now that she had run into Darnell again, Karlee wasn’t going to let him go.
“Are you out of your mind?”
Seeing Karlee squeeze in beside him, forcing the car behind them to brake hard and curse loudly, Darnell shouted,
“If you want to die, don’t take me down with you. Get lost!”
If Karlee weren’t a girl, Darnell would have gotten out and beaten her up.
“I’m definitely out of my mind today. If you don’t agree to race me, I’ll follow you everywhere. I’ve got all the time in the world.”
Karlee’s stubbornness showed through. “Wherever you go, I go.”
Darnell shot back, “I’m going to sleep with a woman. You coming too?”
Karlee sneered, “I’ll film it for free.”
Darnell snorted, “I’ll strip naked for an adult film. Will you strip too?”
Karlee’s words were fiery. “I’m not afraid of you.”
Darnell couldn’t help but curse, “Crazy woman.”
Despite his harsh words, Karlee continued driving alongside him for ten kilometers without giving up.
She kept pace with Darnell, causing chaos on the two-lane road as other cars couldn’t overtake or slow down.
Many drivers cursed loudly.
“What a little witch.”
Darnell shook his head and then floored the gas pedal. His Porsche shot forward.
He aimed to get rid of Karlee.
Startled by Darnell’s sudden acceleration and seeing the Porsche pull ahead by dozens of meters, Karlee felt thrilled.
She accelerated sharply as well but hadn’t closed the gap when Darnell overtook a bus.
His speed was incredible.
Realizing Darnell wanted to lose her, Karlee sped up too, and the roar of engines filled the air again.
Without needing to check their distance, Darnell could tell from the engine sounds that she was still following closely. He smiled and pressed the gas pedal harder.
The car roared like a beast. Pedestrians could feel its vibrations as it suddenly accelerated and quickly moved aside.
In an instant, the Porsche surged ahead.
Seeing Darnell speed up, Karlee didn’t hesitate and unleashed another burst of speed, closing in rapidly.
The Porsche and Maserati raced madly down the road.
If this were a racetrack, even if he exhausted himself, Darnell couldn’t outrun Karlee’s modified Maserati due to its superior performance.
However, on this busy main road, it was a different story!
Having driven tanks and planes before, Darnell seemed almost superhuman in sensing vehicle conditions and road situations. He could anticipate both their positions and plan his next move with precision. As he sped along, he noticed an upcoming “Y” intersection ahead.
The gap between two cars seemed too narrow for most drivers to attempt passing through without risking a collision.
However, Darnell was different.
With a deft turn of the wheel, he smoothly threaded through the gap.
Karlee wasn’t about to be outdone. Relying on her exceptional driving skills, she stayed close behind him. “Think you can get away? Not so easy.”
As president of the Sports Car Association of Whiteville, she had her pride and skills to uphold.
After another five kilometers without losing her tailing him like a shadow.
“This girl has some skill,” Darnell thought as he squinted slightly at an upcoming right lane filled with twenty-something wedding cars moving side by side with just enough space for one car between them.
Most people wouldn’t dare try overtaking here due to the high risks involved in squeezing through such tight spaces without causing accidents or scratches on either side, but not for someone like him who thrived under pressure!
With another sharp turn towards those cars ahead…
“Crazy man,” Karlee muttered under her breath while closing distance behind when suddenly realizing what he intended to do next. He was trying to drive straight into a narrow gap between wedding convoy vehicles.
“Is this arrogant fool trying to kill himself?” She exclaimed aloud before easing off the accelerator slightly while tapping the brakes gently instead. No way would she risk crashing into a rear-end collision if things went south quickly here.
But just at that moment, Darnell ramped up the speed to another level, deftly turned the steering wheel, and slipped steadily through the narrow gap, weaving left and right with a display of speed and passion that made the filming crew let out a scream.
They wanted to curse at Darnell, but he was already out of sight.
The car was just too fast.
In an instant, Darnell was in front of the wedding procession, having covered dozens of meters, then turned the steering wheel and turned right into another road.
Instead of slowing down, Darnell continued to accelerate, navigating through the heavy traffic like a nimble snake, moving quickly and precisely.
“Damn!”
Karlee didn’t expect Darnell to really squeeze out from the wedding procession. She stepped on the gas and rushed to the front from the fast lane.
Then, with a turn of the steering wheel, she pushed past two cars and forcibly turned right onto the street where Darnell had entered.
She wanted to lock onto Darnell again, but in her view, she only saw the faint taillights of the Porsche at the end of the street.
Soon after, the Porsche disappeared in front of Karlee without a trace, leaving her stunned.
“This jerk’s driving skills are even better than Marc’s.” Karlee stopped the car, her pretty face filled with frustration, but soon she became excited again. “I must get you to be my coach.”
There was no challenge in the world that Karlee couldn’t handle, and if there was, she would just tackle it twice. She picked up her phone and dialed a number.
“Please help me look up a license plate.”
