Eliezer broke into a cold sweat, shocked that Darnell had discovered his secrets.
Lillian was also surprised. Although she wasn’t sure if it was true, seeing Eliezer’s reaction made her believe it more. She looked at him with disdain.
Darnell teased lightly, “I’m slandering you. Shall I bring in the person involved to confront you?”
Eliezer gritted his teeth. “Darnell, I don’t have time for your childish games.”
Darnell tilted his head and said, “I don’t have time either. I’m here to work, not to watch you act high and mighty.”
“Besides, I’m directly under Miss Fanshaw’s management, so don’t act like a condescending jerk.”
Lillian tried to mediate and said anxiously, “Mr. Izzard, Darnell, please stop this, or I’ll call Miss Fanshaw.”
“Miss Snow, I’m not causing trouble. I just want to tell a story.”
Darnell raised his voice as he began, “Once upon a time, there was a woman bathing in her backyard. As her fair legs emerged, Eliezer…”
“Enough! Shut up!”
Eliezer took a deep breath and rolled his eyes. He planned to teach Darnell a lesson for Mr. Gower, but instead, he was threatened by him.
He didn’t dare risk his reputation. Who knew how much dirt Darnell had on him? Thus, he reluctantly agreed,
“Darnell, for Miss Fanshaw’s sake, the sales department will temporarily take you in.”
“But let me tell you, the sales department has performance requirements. No matter who you are or who backs you, if you fail to meet the requirements, you’re out.”
“This is my prerogative from the headquarters.”
A sly glint flashed in his eyes. Darnell saw it but remained unfazed.
Lillian nodded with a smile. “Of course, everyone is treated equally.”
Eliezer led Darnell to the center of the hall and clapped his hands to get everyone’s attention. Pointing at Darnell, he announced,
“This is Darnell Halford. He’s been sent by Miss Fanshaw for training and will be part of our sales department starting today.”
“He will lead the Python Team in our efforts.”
“He will adhere to the rules of the sales department and achieve the team’s goals alongside us.”
“Let’s welcome him!”
Eliezer clapped forcefully with a hidden agenda, and over a hundred people followed suit with mocking looks towards Darnell.
Darnell waved at everyone with a smile. “Thank you all. Looking forward to working with you guys.”
Lillian opened her mouth as if to say something, but seeing Darnell smiling foolishly in response, she shook her head and left the sales department.
She wasn’t worried about Darnell being at a disadvantage, since this man only caused others trouble.
Eliezer signaled for everyone to quiet down and then led Darnell to a group in the corner.
There were two long tables with eight chairs and three laptops. Three young girls stood quietly beside the chairs.
They had an academic air about them, clearly inexperienced college students. Eliezer introduced them sarcastically,
“Darnell, this is the Python Team, with three highly educated elites. There were originally six members, but three of them left yesterday.”
The three girls were pretty and wore black work uniforms, with good manners and bright smiles filled with curiosity.
“From today on, you are their team leader.”
Eliezer patted Darnell’s shoulder. “Work harder and don’t disappoint them or me.”
Darnell dodged Eliezer’s hand with disdain. “Don’t worry. I’ll knock your socks off.”
Seeing Darnell avoid his hand made Eliezer’s face darken as he mocked him, “It’s good for young people to be energetic and ambitious.”
“But I don’t have much expectations on you. You have no impressive family background, education, or connections.”
“You probably don’t even know what adalimumab is. How are you going to impress me? Stop daydreaming and be realistic, okay?”
“Although we’re not professional doctors, dealing with pharmaceuticals requires medical knowledge to communicate with clients.”
Eliezer lectured Darnell seriously, “Mr. Halford, it’s okay if you’re uneducated, but you have to learn.”
“Take some time to read more books and study products more thoroughly instead of being ignorant.”
“If you don’t grasp enough knowledge, how can you be a team leader? How can you contribute to the company?”
“Your connection with Miss Fanshaw won’t get you far.”
Many colleagues showed disdain upon hearing this.
“It turns out he got in through connections. No wonder he dressed so casually.”
Several glamorous women even took a few steps back in disgust.
Without hesitation, Darnell spoke up, “Adalimumab is also known as Humira, a self-injectable biological therapy drug.”
“It has been approved by the National Medical Products Administration for two indications, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis. It’s a global best-seller.”
“It generates over $100 billion in annual sales worldwide.”
Darnell smiled at Eliezer, “Mr. Izzard, am I right?”
The three girls from Python Team almost applauded. They clearly enjoyed this face-slapping moment.
“Looks like you’ve done some research.”
Eliezer’s mouth twitched at Darnell’s blunt response, but he quickly regained composure due to his experience. “I didn’t want to embarrass you publicly, so I asked you an easy question. Now tell me about ‘Sofosbuvir’.”
Darnell laughed again. “Sofosbuvir, also known as Sovaldi, is developed by Gilead Sciences for treating chronic hepatitis C.”
“It was approved by the FDA on December 6th, 2013 and launched across EU countries the following year, but it hasn’t been marketed in Westergold yet.”
Smiling slightly while speaking directly at Eliezer, Darnell mocked, “Testing me on something unavailable in Westergold shows how considerate you are indeed!”
Eliezer’s lips twitched. “I’m assessing your business knowledge.”
Darnell calmly replied, “Now that I passed both tests, am I qualified?”
Eliezer was seething with anger. “Not bad…”
With faint sarcasm, Darnell turned serious and asked abruptly, “Mr. Izzard, you tested me twice. May I test you once?”
“The first book of Canon of Medicine contains four treaties. What are they?”
Eliezer Izzard was dumbfounded, then blurted out, “Canon of Medicine? What’s that?”
“You don’t know Canon of Medicine? This is a masterpiece!”
Darnell looked genuinely surprised: “You seem to see yourself as a medical expert. I thought you knew everything!”
Eliezer fell silent.
“The doctor’s duty is to cure sometimes, relieve often, and comfort always.”
“Do you know who said it?”
Eliezer gave no response.
“Still no? Mr. Izzard, you’re utterly ignorant! It’s from Hippocrates!”
“How do you serve as the head of the sales department and contribute anything meaningful to the company?”
Eliezer’s face turned pale. Gritting his teeth, Eliezer almost lost his head.
