“Asher,” I muttered slowly as Asher neared us, and his nails extended into claws. My eyes connected to his but there was absolutely nothing there. It was completely bloodshot red there. He was furious. Very furious.
In a blink, Asher ripped Hades from on top of me and tossed him on the floor. I squinted my eyes as Asher’s clothes were torn apart from his body, his muscles bulged and elongated, his frame growing more robust and powerful. Fur sprouted from his skin, enveloping him in a sleek coat of grey with patches of silver. His face elongated into a fearsome muzzle. His eyes changed from their usual amber flecks of gold to a golden yellow color, vibrant and wild with the spirit of the beast within.
He snarled angrily and leaped in the air, giving his wolf full control, and shifted right before me and lunged at Hades. I watched in awe at the beautiful sight of his wolf. Everything about his wolf radiated power and I was absolutely smitten by his wolf.
His wolf tilted his head and glanced my way as if inspecting me to see if I was hurt. His gaze on me was like a light caress on my mind, on my body, and my soul.
His eyes were glowing a brighter shade of yellow than the sun.
He pounced immediately on Hades who had also transformed into his wolf who was skinny and less muscular in comparison. Hades wolf paled and bowed his head so low that it was almost touching the ground, there was terror in his eyes, nervousness, and fear. But that did nothing to appease Asher.
With his massive claws, he hurled the smaller wolf into the wall, smacking him hard.
A few of his bones must have been broken as he let out a painful squeal. Hades let out such a howl that it made my heart scrunch in fear.
Grabbing him by his neck, Asher pulled Hades ‘face to me. His eyes which were shining with lust and rage earlier now looked absolutely terrified. Asher’s sharp and pointed claws easily pierced deep into his fur and skin and I began to see crimson-red liquid dripping out, flowing down his body in rivulets. Hades struggled frantically as if he were a butterfly pinned on a board, unable to free its wings.
My face scrunched in disgust as I began to see Hades’s veins bulge. His eyes began to swell and water as his muscles went taut. He tried hard to scratch at the claws that maintained an iron grip against his neck but to no avail.
Blood began to trickle down Asher’s claws, trailing down his arms and down on the floor as he slowly began to cut off Hades’s wind supply.
Hades began to wheeze as his mouth opened wide trying to gasp for air as his eyes bulged, nearly popping out of his eye sockets. And then slowly the blood began flowing down Hades’s neck in rivulets as his frantic attempts began to slow. I could feel the force and the power that rippled under Asher’s claws as he took his time, slowly killing Hades instead of snapping his neck in one go and awarding him an easy, painless death.
This was the man I was married to. He was showing both of his sides to me. One was the gentler side that had saved me while the fiercer side was crushing Hades’s windpipe.
My attacker’s body whimpered in submission and went slack as the strain put by Asher made his eyes pop out, followed by his neck that went limp, his head rolling against Asher’s strong claws. Asher’s burning eyes found mine again, he growled mightily and dived his claws into Hades’s chest, and plucked out his heart. My stomach churned at the gory scene.
I was dumbfounded, the sight before me was hard to look at and it made my insides shrink. I could remember what Robin had said to me. If Asher could kill thousands of rogues alone then who was Hades to challenge him?
It wasn’t really a challenge considering that Hades was dead and it all happened in a few seconds, and the last expression on his face was of pure terror as life drained out of his body along with his blood.
Asher’s wolf stood back on the other side of the chamber watching me with curious eyes. He looked almost as confused as Asher did whenever he looked at me but there was also a hint of fear there that I always saw in Asher as well and I could see the features of his wolf face crumpled with pain.
I held completely still as he took slow steps in my direction. I should be scared, his wolf was more dangerous compared to the other wolves I had seen. I stood my ground as if I had transformed into a statue as Asher’s wolf slowly came nearer. I tried not to cower as I looked at the mighty beast before me with bated breath, he sniffed my hand and that was when I noticed I had a small cut on my hand that was dripping blood, he rubbed his muzzle against my body, and circled me for a while as if he was inspecting my body before moving back to Hades’s lifeless body.
He grabbed his lifeless body with his sharp canines, leaped out of the window, and tore his body into shreds. And his blood-spattered around like raindrops.
A loud scream left my mouth as I rushed to the window and looked down, my heart skipped a fearful bit and what I saw on the castle grounds made my eyes widen in horror.
This can’t be! It can’t be!
I felt my breathing hitch. My heartbeat was spiking. I couldn’t move an inch, and my face was paralyzed with shock.
Hades’s body was scattered around the grounds like minced beef and his head was hanging on a bamboo stick.
What kind of beast was Asher?
