Kayla
I narrowed my eyes as I watched a few servants open a gate to reveal a set of carriage. The carriage was ornate and grand, with intricate carvings and gold embellishments adorning its exterior. It appeared to be sturdy and robust, made from the finest materials, and designed to withstand the rigors of travel on rough terrain.
The exterior of the carriage was decorated with symbols and motifs associated with the royal family, such as wolf heads and moon emblems giving it a regal and imposing presence.
The wheels were large and sturdy, able to bear the weight of the carriage and its passengers as it glides smoothly along the road. The nightseeds pulling the carriage had sleek black coats that shimmered in the sunlight.
They neighed loudly and I watched Asher walk toward them and chuckled, “They seemed happy to be out of their enclosures.”
He patted the beasts whose eyes looked bright and alert, reflecting the intelligence and strength that these animals possess. Their mane and tails were long and flowing, whipping in the wind as they pulled the carriage forward and the servants fastened ropes and leashes on the nightseeds.
My eyes shifted back to Asher and I felt an ache in my chest watching him get ready to leave for an entire day. I wasn’t used to his home and now that I would be all alone, I felt a lot more lonely. I felt uneasy and my restlessness kept intensifying and it was driving me insane.
There was something about my feelings toward Asher that gave me chills, the strange emotions that exploded within me at the thought of him. The way my heart drummed loudly whenever he was around me and the butterflies that always erupted from my heart at his tender touch. Could it be that he was more than just a husband to me?
I could remember that this was the exact way Celia and Maria acted toward their mates. Actually what I felt for him was stronger.
This feeling that I felt for him was what one would feel for their true mate. But how could that be? Asher’s mate was dead and I could see in his eyes that a part of him died with her. Then how could I feel exactly what a mate felt? Could it be that I was his second chance mate? But how come he couldn’t feel the pull between us? Asher was a mystery. A mystery that I wanted to unravel, slowly yet steadily.
I also noticed the way he acted around me like the sight of me brought him pain. He was not supposed to act that way if I was truly his substitute mate. Maybe I was just lusting after him.
He had all the qualities that would make women swim around him. He was simply desirable.
I held my hands together, fidgeting with my fingers as my gaze flitted to Asher more often than I could count.
“You don’t have to worry too much, Kayla. He will be back soon,” A familiar voice sounded beside me. It was Robin. I didn’t even realize that he was watching me, while I basically stared at Asher.
I let out a defeated sigh and glanced back at him, staring deep into his green emerald eyes. I bit my lips nervously,
“Will he be safe?”
He tickled his brow and chuckled. “It’s Alpha Asher we are talking about here, the only Alpha that the Moon Goddess specially gifted with the power and strength of a thousand warriors. He said with a dangerous smirk and continued “Asher is known on the battlefield as the god Kratos because he is capable of taking down more than thirty men at the same time. Trust me you don’t need to worry, he will be fine.”
Asher turned and saw Robin talking to me, his eyes narrowed and he pulled away from the nightseeds. He didn’t seem pleased to see him around me.
” Robin!” He growled.
He laughed. “Here comes the grouchy toad, staring daggers at me. I have to go Kayla before Asher kills me with his look. Be safe, okay, if you need anything don’t hesitate to inform the servants.” He patted my cheek and made a puppy dog face, “Don’t miss me too much, we will be back soon,” He said, I nodded, and gave him a small smile before he left our chamber.
I lifted my gaze to where Asher stood, his blonde hair shimmered under the sun as he turned to me. His enchanting lips parted a little and it made me want to reach out to him and kiss it. His eyes fell on me, connecting with mine. I couldn’t pull away, nor could I run to him. His heated gaze was on me and I couldn’t even look away.
He stared at me briefly with his signature look of a raised eyebrow before he stepped inside the carriage. I felt an overpowering urge to run to him. Now, I was even more torn with my feelings.
Before I could stop myself, I was out of my chamber, running down the flight of stairs to the castle ground. I approached the carriage and stopped a few inches away from him.
” Take me with you, please,” I said, and his stoic face froze. He looked at me with furrowed eyebrows. I waited for him to say something but my gaze kept sliding down to his chest.
The first two buttons of his shirt were undone and I could see the nice inked skin below the fabric. The runes had dried off, obviously and there was no redness.
It looked like something intricate but without seeing the complete picture I could not make a guess. Not that I would observe the ink if he were to walk bare-chested in front of me.
“No. You are not coming with me.” He snarled.
I crossed my arms over my chest and narrowed my eyes. “I do not want to stay here all alone, that’s why I wanted to come with you.”
” It still doesn’t change anything and my answer is still the same. No, Kayla, you can’t come with me. You’re the Luna of my kingdom, you should be able to govern it in my absence and not act like a scared puppy.”
