Kayla
The rest of the day passed in a blur and I was seated on the bed, with my arms around my knees. My eyes were fixed on the draperies on the window. Tonight, was the supposed ceremony that was held in my honor. I was still contemplating whether to attend or not.
I sighed. It was twilight already, the sun had already been replaced by the moon. I could hear the loud noise of chattering from outside the castle. I bet some guests had begun to make appearances.
I closed my eyes, huffing again when the door pulled open. There was a triggering shift in the air. At once, I was aware of his presence. Somehow, whenever he was around me, the air seemed to surrender to his pleasant scent. I pushed my eyes open, exhausting every ounce of control I had not to gape at him. He had already changed into a different outfit and was wearing a red embroidered robe and black pants. He was handsome but in an unnerving kind of way.
I shook my head and took in a deep breath as I regained control of my mind.
“Kayla!” Asher growled from the door. His face turned into a scowl that began to grow deeper, making his jawline appear more prominent. There was something in the way he watched me. As if he was a hunter and I was his prey.
“What do you think you are doing, not still dressed?” He growled ferociously.
His voice was huskier than ever, leaving a cold trail down my spine. He had a predatory gaze on his handsome face that made him look both enticing and feral. I tore my gaze away from him, not saying a word.
” The guests have started gathering at the hall, enough with your silly games. I am being patient with you and my patience is waning!” His words were so fierce and angry that I felt the ground tremble around us. The walls began to rattle and so did other things in the room. His sharp voice felt like hefty shards of ice pricking my skin.
” I told you, didn’t I? I am not attending!” I managed to spell it out in an unwavering voice, staring at him in defiance, although my heart was palpitating. I wanted to show that I was not afraid of him, that I did not care if the others feared him. But part of me was still wondering how the cruelest Alpha had not yet lashed out at me despite me giving him plenty of reasons to do so. However, I could see an undercurrent of irritation building inside him, like the water of a dam being held in by the weakest wall that was slowly crumbling to rubble.
I gulped nervously and only watched him like a curious bird as he tilted his head and took a slow and cautious step toward me. His walk reminded me of a beast going out to hunt his prey, laid back but watchful. He was taking his time to slowly walk towards me as I tried not to blink. Asher towered over me so he lowered himself a bit.
Leaning closer to me, he suddenly smiled darkly. I was taken aback for a second, his magnetic amber eyes met mine while his soft warm palm fell on my cheek. I gasped at the feel of his soft hand on my face and the unexpected contact made me shiver with equal parts of surprise and pleasure. I could feel my skin grow hot at our closeness and my eyes fell into his smoky amber eyes as he caressed them gently. He held me in his gaze, his eyes caressing my skin and a delicate shiver of pleasure worked its way up my core and shot straight up toward my heart, making it flutter wildly.
His stare caused my heart to lose rhythm and my breathing started coming out unevenly. I fought to keep my eyes open as his intoxicating scent surrounded me. A deep blush rose up my cheek as heat pooled in my core. My heart rate skyrocketed as I carelessly parted my lips as a welcome sign.
Instantly, his eyes darkened at my action, a low growl left his lips and he immediately removed his hand from my body as if it burned him and gripped my wrist firmly.
” Get dressed, Kayla, and come downstairs immediately, or you’re not going to like what will happen if you disobey my order again. Do you understand?” He thundered.
And the way the lights around us flickered made me take a step back involuntarily. The air suddenly felt heavy and I felt a suffocating pressure around me, dragging me down.
My entire being quivered, I wanted to tell him that his threat didn’t scare me, but my fast-beating heart had already betrayed me. I nodded sharply.
Then, with one last malicious look and a smile that did not reach his eyes, he walked away and slammed the door behind him.
As soon as Asher left our chamber, I angrily pushed out of the bed and grabbed a dress from the closet. Asher had already gotten my measurements from the council elder wolves before we left and had gotten a few dresses as well as other clothing necessities for me. I had no idea how he had thought about everything so quickly. I slid into a red dress. It fits me like a glove, enhancing every single curve. It looked gorgeous and sexy.
I had never imagined myself to look like that. But, I wasn’t going to frown if I looked like a diva.
After another hour or so of putting on makeup and styling my hair, pulling it into a tight bun, leaving out a little of my natural curls in front.
Soon, I was all dressed. I looked into the mirror, unable to recognize my sudden transformation. I looked really beautiful. I sucked some air, leaving the chamber for the big hall in the castle.
