His eyes are locked on me, and after his eyes roam my body, I feel my panties get wet. Gosh, this man has a way of eliciting reactions from my core.
He steps closer with each determined stride, and my heart pounds with each step he takes.
This feeling goes beyond the contract I signed with him, but I’ll be damned if I don’t enjoy it while it lasts. He is down the steps now, my eyes locked on him, anticipating his next move.
He brings me closer, my front colliding with his body. My knees turn to jelly from the effect Logan has on me.
His eyes roam my face as he brings my lips to his and licks them in the most sexual way in a kiss.
I feel weak in my knees as I relish the joy of the kiss, not minding if my lipstick will be smeared.
A cough from behind startles us, and I place my hand on his chest. That seems to bring him back to reality as he releases his lips from mine and steps back, looking deep into my eyes.
The feeling of his eyes on me is out of this world.
“Come on, love birds, or we will be late for the gala,” Florence’s voice calls out to us, bringing us out of our daze.
Later, he leans close to my ear and whispers, “Will you give me the honor of peeling off that dress from you when we get back?”
I am weak and can only nod in response.
“You look breathtaking, by the way. Please stay by me the whole day; I don’t want any man looking at you like you’re their next meal. Got it?”
“Yes, Logan, and you look dashing and fabulous as always. Thanks for the massage, the makeup, and the dress,” I say, but before I can finish, he places his finger on my lips, making me shiver.
“Don’t thank me. You are my wife, and you deserve all the best,” he says, emphasizing “wife” in a possessive way that makes me blush crimson.
Laura and Lily walk out just then, and we all pile outside to get to the car. He places his hand on the small of my back, causing a reaction from me. I marvel at how even a small gesture from him can make me feel so much.
We entered the limousine parked outside. The bodyguards are on standby, helping us open the door. “Thank you,” I muttered politely, as I was brought up to be courteous to everyone.
We all sit comfortably in the limo. Laura pours champagne into flutes, and we all cheer.
I notice that Logan isn’t in the mood to drink and seems lost in thought. I wonder what has changed his mood so suddenly.
“Get a grip on yourself, girl,” I tell myself.
“He is a businessman. He can’t always think only about you; he has a business to run.”
With that thought, I relax as we make our way to the gala.
When we arrive at the gala, the bodyguard helps with the door again. “Stay with me the whole time,” Logan says into my ear.
I am so captivated by the decorations outside the venue that I haven’t registered. He is right beside me.
I nod in response. Just then, the paparazzi start taking pictures and asking questions.
“Mr. West, what do you say about the island that was willed to your wife? Mr. West, now that you are married, should we be expecting an heir soon? Mr. West, are you going to rekindle your romance with Samantha now that she is back in town?”
The last question makes Logan’s grip on me tighten, but we manage to get inside.
“Are you okay?” I ask him with concern, but he avoids looking at me. He grabs a flute of champagne from a passing server and gulps it down in one go.
Logan’s sudden detachment worries me, but I decide to give him some space.
The gala is in full swing, with elegant decorations and well-dressed guests mingling everywhere.
“Wait here. I will be right back,” he says before walking away. The whole place feels foreign to me since
I haven’t been alone at a gathering like this before. I look around, feeling out of place, but then I spot Laura, Lily, and Florence. My eyes light up instantly, and I walk over to them.
As I get closer, I realize Logan’s father is present too. His eyes light up when he sees me.
“Oh, Nadine, aren’t you just the most gorgeous lady here,” he says, pulling me into a hug.
I blush hard. “Good to see you again, sir,” I say, returning the hug. “Where is Logan?”
“He went that way,” I say, pointing in the direction Logan went.
“Oh, perhaps he is discussing business with some colleagues.”
The gala starts with the speaker introducing the guest of honor and some important dignitaries present. Everyone gives a round of applause as the dignitaries are announced.
It’s a fundraising gala, where one hundred percent of the money raised today will be given to charity.
Awards are given out to members who have contributed immensely to charity work, and there are plenty of drinks available.
My mind keeps darting here and there, looking for Logan. We walked in together, and now he’s just disappeared from me after promising earlier at the house that I should stay close to him the whole time.
Now it’s time to dance. I’m surprised when Asher appears out of nowhere. “Asher,” I breathe out his name. “You came.”
“Yes,” he says with a grin on his face. “I wouldn’t miss it for anything in the world. Would you do me the honor of having a dance?”
I look around, wondering if Logan is nearby, but Asher’s voice pulls me out of my thoughts.
“If you’re worried about Logan, he sent me here to keep you company. He’s busy making business connections,” he says, stretching out his hand in invitation.
I notice he doesn’t speak convincingly about Logan’s whereabouts, but I shrug it off and place my hand in his.
As we dance to the slow music, I find that Asher is a good dancer, while I am only trying to find my footing. He smiles at my clumsy way of dancing but doesn’t make fun of me.
“So, tell me about you and Kayla,” I ask, trying to start a conversation so it doesn’t feel awkward.
He smirks and asks, “What about me and Kayla?”
“I see the way you two steal glances at each other. Have you told her how you feel about her?”
“Heck no, I feel nothing about her,” he says, trying to lie, but the lie doesn’t match the blush on his face.
“I think if you like her, there’s no point in hiding it. Life is too short not to live in the moment.”
“I take it that you took my advice seriously regarding Logan. You two are good for each other, and I’m happy he’s letting go of his feelings for her.”
That piques my interest as I recall Laura’s words from earlier today about someone rude to her. I ask, “Who is she?”
He seems taken aback as if he has said something he shouldn’t have.
“Don’t you dare go quiet on me,” I say, my tone making him chuckle.
Just then, I look up and see Logan with a lady. Their lips are locked in a passionate kiss.
My heart squeezes in my chest as if it’s going to be crushed into pieces. I grip Asher’s hand firmly, noticing he winces, but I’m too focused on Logan to care.
