Book:Chasing Back What's Mine Published:2024-11-28

I gaze into Nadine’s eyes, I’m met with a shocking sight-her face goes pale as if I’ve uttered something utterly offensive! My reputation as a ruthless businessman precedes me, and I realize with a jolt that my words put her in fear. Whoops, I didn’t mean to do that!
Despite my tough exterior, Nadine’s presence in my life is a game-changer. She brings light, laughter, and a sense of warmth that I never thought possible. I feel like the luckiest guy alive to have her by my side.
But, let’s be real, I’m a bit of a mess-my attempts to hide my true feelings only confuse her. Still, I hope that someone with keen eyes sees the love I have for her, even if I can’t quite express it myself.
I’m captivated by Nadine’s kindness, beauty, and unwavering optimism. She’s the sunshine in my dark world, and I’m determined to cherish her forever. Though I may not deserve her, I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make her happy and keep her by my side.
But, here’s the thing-I’ve been keeping a secret that weighs heavily on my mind every day. I’ve been obsessed with Nadine since before I even saved her, but I’m terrified to reveal my true feelings. I promised to help her get revenge against Jake and Nathalie, but I have my dark secrets that I’m afraid to share.
And, to make matters worse, I lied to Nadine about being responsible for exposing Nathalie in the media. I’m worried that my deception will be discovered, and our contract will be terminated. I know I’m in trouble, and I’m walking on thin ice. But, I can’t help myself-I’m drawn to Nadine like a moth to flame, and I’ll do whatever it takes to keep her in my life.
Just as I pace in my office, lost in thought, my phone shrieks to life, shattering the silence. I groan as I see Nathalie’s name flashing on the caller ID. I hesitate for a moment before answering, my gut tells me this isn’t going to be a pleasant conversation.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” Nathalie’s voice explodes through the phone, making me wince and hold it away from my ear. “We had a deal, Logan! I held up my end, but you went and released footage that isn’t even me!” she fumes, her anger palpable.
I know I have to think fast, to come up with a way to convince her that I’m not behind the scandal splashed all over the media. But before I can even try, Nathalie unleashes a torrent of threats, her words dripping with venom. “I will fucking end you, Logan! Mark my words, you’ll regret ever crossing me!”
I take a deep breath, knowing I have to stay calm and talk my way out of this one. But Nathalie’s fury is a force I wonder if I’ll be able to contain before it’s too late.
“Nathalie, calm down,” I try to reason with her, hoping she’ll listen. But she cuts me off, her anger boiling over.
“Don’t fucking tell me to calm down! I know that scandal has your handwriting all over it, and I swear I’m going to expose you to Nadine!” she spits, her words piercing me.
“Nathalie, please listen to me,” I plead, trying to keep my voice calm and rational. “I had nothing to do with the scandal. I swear on my life. Someone is trying to frame me.”
But Nathalie is unforgiving. “You expect me to believe that? After all the evidence I’ve seen? You’re a liar, Logan, and a manipulator. You’ll stop at nothing to get what you want.”
“Nathalie, I understand why you’re upset,” I say, trying to appeal to her logic. “But let’s figure out who could be behind this.”
But Nathalie just laughs a cold, bitter sound. “You’re not even worthy of my anger,” she spits. “But I’ll make sure Nadine knows the truth about you. And when she does, you’ll be the one left with nothing.”
“She has no idea she’s in bed with a lying, scheming piece of shit,” she says to me, seething with anger. “And I swear, I’ll expose all your secrets to her.”
When Nathalie threatens to tell Nadine everything, my resolve deflates. I can’t lose Nadine-never. So, I try to pacify Nathalie, speaking in a calm tone, but she interrupts me again.
“Nadine will know everything if you don’t fix this, Logan!” Nathalie’s voice is laced with venom before she hangs up on me.
I glare at my phone, my anger boiling over. I fight the urge to smash it against the wall, instead slamming my fists on my desk, sending everything crashing to the floor.
My secretary rushes in, concerned. “Is everything okay, sir?” she asks, but I just stare at her, unable to speak. I pour myself a glass of whiskey, my hands shaking with rage. I take it in one gulp, feeling the burn down my throat. I don’t know how much I drink, but I can’t stop.
I can’t bear the thought of losing her, of her finding out about my deceit. I gulp down another glass of whiskey, blurring my thoughts.
I stumble to my feet, my secretary’s voice fading into the background. I stagger to the window, gazing out at the city below, feeling like I’m staring into the abyss.
Suddenly, the glass slips from my hand, shattering on the floor as I feel overwhelmed and confused. My secretary comes in again and sees the mess I’ve made. “Let me help you clean this up,” she says kindly.
But I don’t want her help. “No, it’s okay,” I say. “Just tell my driver to take me home. I need to get out of here.”
She nods and leaves my office to make the call. I sit there, feeling like everything is falling apart. The office is quiet, except for my heavy breathing.
As I make my way to the underground parking lot, my anxiety grows. My driver is already seated in the car, and once I’m inside, he starts driving off. During the drive home, my head pounds relentlessly.
As soon as I arrive home, I head to Nadine’s room, taking a moment to admire her beauty.
She’s a stunning sight, with a slender and curvy figure, rich dark brown hair that cascades down her back, a heart-shaped face, and bright green eyes that sparkle like emeralds. Her skin is radiant, with a porcelain-like complexion that glows with an ethereal light.
I stand frozen at her door, watching as she laughs and chats on the phone, completely unaware of my presence.
But then, I hear Jake’s name. Something inside me snaps, and all my restraint disappears. As I make my appearance, she looks shocked and angry at the same time.
I push off the wall and stumble toward her, my arms opening wide. I wrap myself around her, holding her tight.
I whisper with a shaky voice. “I can’t lose you.” I hold her closer, pouring all my emotions into that embrace.
I feel her heart pounding against mine, and my mind whispers a desperate question: Does she feel even a spark of the love I have for her?
