Laura’s POV
I got to Dante’s office. It was getting late and I knew I had to hurry before they closed for the day.
I knew that Dante had gone home. Having his employees around was not going to much of a problem for me. I knew how to take care of them.
I parked discreetly in the parking lot and stepped out.
I walked up to the building confidently and headed inside. The security men at the door didn’t stop me and I smiled to myself.
This was going to be way too easy.
“Good evening Miss Laura.”
Some of the employees greeted me as I walked in and I didn’t even bat an eyelash at them. I smirked internally.
It seems that all that fraternizing with that fool, Dante did work in my favor after all.
I had been coming with him to the office for the past six years and his employees had learned to give me special treatment.
I slipped upstairs without anyone asking me a question.
My heart was nonetheless beating wildly in my chest. What if I was wrong and Dante was around doing overtime in his office?
I tried to get the thought out of my head and think about my mysterious lover. I could still hear his voice in my head telling me how much he wanted me.
My body came alive again as I remembered his touch and sweet kisses. I was motivated to continue. I was motivated by the hope of soon seeing his face and finding out who he was.
I felt my legs tremble. Not in fear though, but in desirous pleasure as I thought about him.
I reached the top floor and looked around the corridor.
It was empty. The lights were off.
I sighed in relief. It meant that the people who worked on this floor had all gone home for the day. I was alone and free to rummage through his office.
I was still sneaky and for stealth, I opted to keep the lights on.
My wolf came alive inside of me and I could see a little more clearly in the dark.
It dawned on me that I could have done that to see my lover but I was so overwhelmed by his presence that I could even think straight.
I headed to his office as quietly as I could understand the cover of darkness. I was agile and careful not to bump into anything, just in case there was someone else on this floor along with me.
I got to the office. So far so good.
“Fuck!” I said in an angry whisper.
The door was locked. I searched my pockets and I realized that I no longer had the key to the office since Dante and I were no longer officially together.
Damn it!
I refrained from banging on the door in anger. I had to think.
Could I go back to his place and get a key?
No. That would take too long and I wasn’t very welcome in his home for now. His seeing me would spark suspicion. Frankly, I didn’t want to see him either.
That bastard!
Maybe I could…
No, no, no. That wasn’t going to work either.
I stood at the door for a while and I continued to run out of options.
Fuck! I should have thought this through. I just jumped into this without a proper plan.
I ran my hand through my hair in frustration and felt something poke me.
I felt an idea pop into my hair and I pulled out the bobby pin that I had forgotten in my long and thick hair.
Perfect.
I had seen this in quite a number of movies. I didn’t know if it worked but it was worth a shot. I was desperate.
I disfigured the pin and slotted it inside the keyhole.
It was a tight fit. Was that a good thing?
“I guess I just jiggle this around.”
I did just that for a while. It made a little bit of a racket but it wasn’t something that I thought would draw too much attention. It could as well have been a draft in the air vents.
“Come on! Open!”
I whispered intensely and jiggled even harder. That was the only bobby pin that I had in my hair. If it broke or worse, broke in the keyhole, I’d be in a lot of trouble.
Click!
My heart stopped and I stopped my frantic jiggling. I took a deep breath and pulled on the handle.
The door creaked open and my lips cracked into a smile.
“Well done, Laura.”
I slipped inside silently and closed the door behind me.
His office was dark and cold. It was neatly arranged. I guess it had been cleaned for the evening.
“Documents about pure breed Alphas. Where would he keep such documents?’
I did not know where to start and was frozen for a while. There was a possibility that the document wasn’t even in his office. It was possible that they were at home in his study.
“No, Laura. You can’t jump to conclusions. Start from here.”
My inner voice urged me on and I began my search from the drawers in his office.
It didn’t take a long time and I had already gone through the contents of four of them.
Nothing. There were no documents on ‘Pure Breed Alphas’.
I searched the other drawers and soon I was done.
My heart was wavering and anger had begun to cloud my mind.
Ten drawers searched and there was still nothing.
I turned to the small stack on his desk. I was skeptical. It was probably not there either. They were probably work files for the day.
I sighed but decided to search them anyway. It would hurt and I had to be thorough.
I took my time and flipped through each document slowly, praying and hoping that the next one I saw was the one that I was looking for.
With each passing document, my hope diminished and I was finally on the last one.
“Report by Erica Roland (Confidential)”
I scoffed as soon as I saw the name.
What was that bitch reporting?
I opened it and read through it.
My eyes skimmed across the page and they grew wider.
This was it. This was the document. It was that stupid whore that made the document!
I was filled with a mix of anger and satisfaction. I had found what I was looking for, but now that I knew that it was her who wrote it, it made me hate her even more. I wanted her to die.
I grabbed the document and slipped it into my shirt.
Unorthodox, yes. But no one was going to search my…
Squeak!
The door opened and instinctively I grabbed a document from the pile. The figure came in anf and flipped the switch.
Our eyes met.
“Laura? What are you doing here?”
I rolled my eyes.
“Hello, Robert.”
He didn’t return my little greeting. I didn’t expect him to anyway.
He stared at me intensely and I returned the gaze. I hated him just as much as I hated Dante but there was something about him. His eyes seemed to see everything. It was like he knew everything.
“I’ll ask again, Laura. What are you doing here?”
I chuckled and tried to be composed.
“Isn’t it obvious? I’m here to make sure that Dante has enough to take care of me and his unborn child. I heard that there is inflation. I want to make sure that he isn’t rolling in the mud because he was chasing after barren women.”
Robert didn’t lose his composure. He was intimidating.
“I assure you, he has more than enough to take care of you and your fake child.”
I scrunched my face.
“What did you say?”
“What is in your hand, Laura?”
He didn’t even let me answer and snatched the document from my hand. I tried to grab it but he stepped out of reach.
“Hmmm, well, I guess you have seen it yourself. He can cater for you. Now get out. Don’t let me force you out.”
I scoffed.
“I dare you to touch me. I’m not moving.”
He took a deep breath and stepped closer to me. He set the document back on the table and stared at me. I was backed up between him and the table. His body was barely a few inches away from me. His aura was overwhelming. I felt fearful.
“I take words very literally, Miss Laura, and I do not hold back. I will say this one last time. Get. Out.”
That was the final straw. I hurried out of the room.
That bastard was annoying.
Fuck him! I had what I came for. Now, to give it to my lover.
