Callie didn’t respond, she just stared at him.
Jaquan turned his back completely and walked out of the room. “Eight o’clock tonight, come to box 412.”
It was only in the evening, after she had dressed up, that Callie realized the place she was staying was Jaquan’s usual room.
Box 412 had been preheated in advance, and the staff were busy until Ahmad appeared. A group of people surrounded him as he entered. Jaquan then appeared and said to Callie, “Let’s go.”
Callie quickly followed.
Ahmad was discussing investment promotion for Ylosea with several big shots. When Jaquan appeared, he said, “Mr. Ellison, I apologize for the intrusion. I heard you were coming today, so I brought a special bottle of wine for everyone to enjoy.”
He was a good talker, and everyone was willing to show respect for the executive of Scott Group. Someone chimed in, “Jaquan really knows how to handle things, no wonder he’s reached this level!”
Jaquan smiled lightly and signaled Callie, who was holding the wine bottle, to step forward.
Callie nodded. She was dressed as a server today and wore a mask, so she wasn’t recognized.
She poured wine for the big shots one by one. Jaquan said, “I won’t disturb you any longer,” and left, leaving her to serve them.
Someone said to Ahmad, “Mr. Ellison, give us the inside scoop. Can Oconnor Group still make it?”
Ahmad took a sip of wine and pretended not to understand. “Why ask me? How would I know?”
“Come on, don’t play dumb. Everyone knows the Ellison family is part of it.”
“That’s right. We have to admit the Ellison family has guts. But Nelson is still struggling in Afupshire. We don’t know how long he can hold on.”
“If Oconnor Group makes a comeback, it wouldn’t be good for us if we’ve offended them.”
Ahmad listened and snorted coldly. “You guys are cunning.”
They all laughed along.
“Oconnor Group… It could go either way,” Ahmad said ambiguously. “It depends on whether Nelson can secure funding.”
“I think it’s feasible,” Callie suddenly spoke up, her voice clear as she interrupted the conversation among the big shots.
Everyone was surprised and frowned at her. “Do you even know what we’re talking about, girl?”
“Of course, who doesn’t know the current situation of Oconnor Group?” Callie smiled. “Everyone knows it’s a mess, but I think Oconnor Group can turn things around. I used to work in their core department and know their financial situation well. I remember Nelson kept a trump card up his sleeve to test Ylosea’s companies.”
Someone doubted her and frowned. “You worked at Oconnor Group?”
“Then how did you end up here as a server?”
“Wasn’t I fired?” Callie sighed and handed over her credentials, which indeed showed her employment record. They looked at it and started to believe her somewhat. Callie continued, “I was fired due to unfair treatment, which is why I’m revealing my former employer’s secrets.”
“You want to take revenge on Oconnor Group?”
“You could say that,” Callie nodded. “So I want to remind everyone not to underestimate Oconnor Group. You know Lucia, Nelson’s mother? She came back from abroad with a lot of money. What mother wouldn’t help her own son?”
She spoke in reverse psychology to make them believe her.
Their frowns deepened as they looked at Ahmad. “Mr. Ellison, what do you think? Oconnor Group is a major taxpayer in Ylosea; the authorities might not let them collapse easily.”
