Sarah’s POV
“Sally! You?” My eyes almost popped out of their sockets. I never expected him to be there, to be the one telling me that I wouldn’t make it out in one piece.
“Surprised?” Sally chuckled. “How come everyone seems so surprised to see me?”
I was already seething with anger, seeing someone I had shared all my life’s secrets with standing as a leader among my enemies.
I had succeeded in pulling the sentinel to the gate and I was already close to getting away.
“Open the gates!” I yelled, pressing the dagger tighter on the sentinels neck.
“Don’t do it!” Sally countered my warning. “You and I both know you don’t have the guts to kill him,” Sally let out a wild laughter.
Sally was right. I wasn’t the type who would just go about killing innocent people. I bit gritted my teeth, unable to accept the fact that my perfect escape plan had been ruined by Sally.
I was still there at the gate with the sentinel still within my grip when Marcus and Ryan arrived.
“Well, well, well,” Marcus chucklesd, walking towards me. What a prefect act by you. I can’t believe you were able to fool all of us.”
“Stand back,” I pushed the sentinel on the floor, and raised the dagger, pointing it at each and everyone of the men who stood surrounding me one after the other.
“Poor, Sarah,” Marcus was so swift that the next thing I saw was the dagger dropping from my hand and his grip so strong upon me that I couldn’t break free.
“Let me go!” I cried, but it was too late as Marcus already has me where he wants me. I could almost feel the tears in my eyes finding a way to escape my tear gland. I was already at the verge of getting away until Sally came and spoilt everything.
The other sentinels quickly came to me and bundled me up, with Marcus giving me a slap that made me see stars even in broad day light.
“What were you thinking, Sarah? That you’ll really get away from my sight?” He asked, and then what followed, was another hot slap.
“Alpha, what do we do to her now?” Ryan asked, walking up to stand by Marcus’ side.
“Take her to my chambers and make sure she doesn’t attempt breaking free. I have special treatment for her.”
By special treatment, I already knew what Marcus was driving at. I tried to offer some resistance, but the sentinels appeared to be too powerful that they dragged me away like I wasn’t the same Sarah who has almost taken all of them down.
As the sentinels dragged me away, my mind raced, trying to piece together what had just happened. I had been so close to freedom-so close to escaping Marcus’s clutches-and now everything was crumbling around me.
Sally’s betrayal stung the most. I had trusted him with everything, and now he stood alongside the very people I was desperate to escape from.
It was at that point that it occured to me that the attack on my pack which had led to the deaths of so many of the pack members wasn’t just a coincidence. Sally must have had something to do with.
My head was throbbing from the slap Marcus had given me, but the physical pain was nothing compared to the storm of emotions swirling inside me. How could Sally, someone I had considered family, betray me like this? I felt a surge of anger rise in my chest, but I knew now wasn’t the time to act on it. I had to be smart if I wanted another chance at freedom.
The sentinels dragged me through the estate, past curious onlookers who whispered and stared. I kept my head held high, refusing to show them how much I was hurting. They would not break me, no matter how hard they tried.
Marcus’s chambers loomed ahead, dark and ominous. I knew what awaited me there-his “special treatment.” My stomach twisted with fear, but I forced myself to remain calm. If I could survive this, I’d find a way to escape again. There had to be another way.
Ryan walked alongside Marcus, casting glances my way, but he remained silent. His loyalty to Marcus was clear, but something about the way he looked at me made me wonder if he had doubts. Maybe, just maybe, he wasn’t as convinced as Marcus that I should be punished so severely.
As we reached Marcus’s chambers, the sentinels threw me inside, and I hit the cold stone floor with a thud. Marcus followed them in, his eyes gleaming with satisfaction. He knew he had me right where he wanted me.
“You made a fool of me, Sarah,” Marcus said, pacing the room. “Did you really think you could outsmart me?”
I stayed silent, glaring up at him from the floor.
“You’re going to regret trying to run,” he continued, his voice low and menacing. “But don’t worry, by the time I’m done with you, you’ll learn your place.”
I could feel my heart pounding in my chest, but I wasn’t going to give Marcus the satisfaction of seeing my fear. I had faced worse things than him before, and I would survive this too.
The sentinels stood by the door, waiting for Marcus’s orders. He waved them off, signaling that he didn’t need their help any longer.
“I’ll handle her from here,” he said with a smirk. “Lock the door behind you.”
As the door slammed shut, I braced myself for whatever was coming next. Marcus stepped closer, his expression dark and unreadable.
“Let’s see how long your defiance lasts,” he said, a sinister edge to his voice.
But as Marcus reached for me, I noticed something, Ryan hadn’t left with the sentinels. He lingered by the doorway, his gaze meeting mine for just a brief second.
I looked away, as Marcus took a firm grip around my neck. I struggled, trying to break free, but all my attempts were futile, until he released me by himself.
“You’re pathetic!” He snarled.
