Aurora was quiet. Is Adrian going through any challenges at the moment? After trying to ruin her reputation and that of Patrick, is he pretending to be experiencing some kinds of difficulties?
“Whatever Adrian is going through, he deserves it Grandfather. For all he’d done and still doing, of course he deserves it. Don’t blame yourself for what karma brought to him” Aurora frowned.
He pretended to be a changed person by asking her to pardon him and get back to him but thank goodness that she saw beyond his deception. How can she not see through him that he’s a lying bastard.
And because she refused and insisted on divorce, he eventually agreed after he almost lost his life by her hands. He got back at her, striking her hard alongside with Patrick.
“No, it’s not Karma. Even if he’s paying for his errors and the way he hurts you, isn’t it enough? Did he have to die to appease Karma? This is too much for him, he is paying for too much.
And that brings me back to the same thing I said earlier. It’s all my fault. If I hadn’t insisted on him getting married to you, against his will maybe all of these wouldn’t have happened.
I wanted to be a man of my words. I wanted to keep my promise to your father Sam Leon and in doing that, I brought two people together in an unhappy union, ruining both of your happiness.
What’s the use of keeping ones promise if it will ruin two lives, making them enemies forever. What kind of a stupid old fool am I? How can Mara be proud of me to her friends in the great beyond?
You see, I am a failure. He can’t be with you, he can’t be with his daughter, he can’t be with his mother, he can’t be with his father and not even me. He became a loner, someone without a lover in the world.
I don’t know about before, but the present Adrian Lester that has my blood running in his veins would never spread scandal or sponsor it. He is different from that man you were arranged to in marriage.
Why would a man sponsor such scandal against the mother of his own daughter and invariably against his daughter’s reputation?
I don’t know the truth of it, it’s mostly likely not Adrian. But Richard wouldn’t listen to me. He stripped him of everything and left him without a penny.
When we thought you died, I disowned him and he lost his position as a grandson of this family. He bore it patiently and blamed himself for your death.
But you know the most frightening part of it for me now, he has left home for days and couldn’t be traced. Richard called him his greatest mistake and said it to his face that he wished that he wasn’t born.
How will he ever feel alright again, simply because everyone believed he was responsible for that scandal. What if we all are looking at the wrong direction, how are we sure about the one responsible for that scandal?
Has an investigation been made, is it certain that he did it? But he has gone away without a single penny on him. Everything boils down to me. If that marriage never happened, there wouldn’t have been a scandal that he would be accused of.
If anything happens to him, let the world blame me for it. I am responsible for what happened to my grandson. I became a fool in my old age. Shame on me..” grandfather Lester declared and sniffled.
Aurora sobbed on her way home. Not for anyone but for grandfather and Adrian. Now, she’s confused. Did Adrian not indeed sponsor that scandal?
Who else hates her so much that would do that to her? Or could it be that it’s all for Patrick? Has he suddenly gathered enemies like bees and they aim at ruining him?
But somehow, the scandal was more about her. The woman with two men, two friends. Hoping from the bed of one to the other.
If Adrian went missing for days and no one could find him, she hopes he hadn’t done something silly to himself. He now feels everyone hates him and might think his life has no meaning anymore.
She made a silent prayer and wished that Adrian didn’t hurt himself in any way. If he does, she would also be part of those who drove him to his death.
Then Elsie, how can she tell her someday that her dad is dead and she has a part in it. She doesn’t hate Adrian at all. She just doesn’t want him around her.
His presence reminds her of his ill-mannered treatment that he dished to her while she was still his wife. How he cheated, having affairs with Lola and would go public with her.
She needs to see Patrick. As she dialed Patrick’s contact, a tear dropped on her phone screen, that’s when she knows that she’s still crying.
She touched her chin and felt it, wet with tears. She cleaned it up and Patrick answered his phone “Aurora”he said weakly.
He just arrived home but remained in his car. He doesn’t seem to be alright at the moment. His encounter with Clem had left him like a hen caught in the storm.
“I need to see you. Are you home?” Aurora asked, her voice choked in-between. She doesn’t know why she was sobbing so much.
“I’m at home. I’ll wait for you at the car park” Patrick responded. What now, her voice sounded like she was sobbing. Is everything okay with her?
Then the question bothering him flashed through his mind again, was Adrian really innocent?
It wasn’t long, Aurora drove into the vast compound of Patrick’s mansion. She stepped out and Patrick went to her quickly, holding her in a hug, she wasn’t looking well at all.
“What happened to you, you don’t look alright” Patrick stuttered, bringing her close to his side and leading her into the house.
“I don’t know what is wrong with me. But I am coming from grandfather Lester’s place. I don’t know what happened to me, but I can’t control my tears.
I couldn’t bear it when Grandfather sobbed before me because of Adrian. He had been missing for days and he was so depressed before leaving. I’m afraid like my grandfather, that he hadn’t done something terrible to himself…” Aurora stuttered.
“You’ll have to calm down and tell me what he said exactly. Perhaps we can help find Adrian” Patrick declared.
Luna turned sharply and fixed her gaze on Patrick. He wants to help find Adrian? He’d so soon forgotten about his grievance against him? This is beautiful, brotherhood is next to nothing.
“Okay. Grandfather said Adrian is not someone who can sponsor a scandal about me, the mother of his daughter. But his dad was mad with him for doing that to you and I and they had a misunderstanding.
He took everything from him and used a court order to restraint everything he’s got. Then he called Adrian his greatest mistake and that he should never have been born…” Aurora said and started sobbing.
Patrick was shocked. Uncle Richard said those words to Adrian? He loved him more than anything in this life, how can he say that, was it because of him and his mother like Clem insinuated?
“If Adrian truly was innocent, how do I hide myself henceforth. I went to his office and slapped twice, humiliating him before his employees and using harsh and horrible words to bruise his ego.
If he didn’t do it, how can I make things straight ever again? I am not in any way better than the Adrian Lester I once married ” Aurora commented amidst sobs.
“Why did we both do the same thing to him?” Patrick stuttered, his conscience striking him like a blow on the spinal cord.
