Chapter 96: We’re your parents

Book:His Unwanted Bride (Married by Mistake) Published:2024-11-27

Patrick Connor just woke up that morning and took a bath. He had this dream that he didn’t understand where its beginning sprouted from nor where it was ending.
He saw himself in a family circle. And like he has a family. But where those families came from or where they met, he doesn’t know.
Well whatever, he came over to make breakfast. He got to his kitchen and prepared himself scrambled eggs with grilled toasted bread. He got a glass of coffee and set it on the dining table when his doorbell rang.
So early, he wasn’t expecting anyone at all. He got to the door and was surprised when he saw Ms Luna Wesley standing by the door.
They met in X-city, a friend of Aurora. They stood staring at each other, the older woman’s eyes welled up with tears and Patrick was stunned the more.
“Come in Ms Luna” he invited, looking past her to the surroundings. Why is she looking so worked up and coming to his door so early?
He held the door and Luna stepped in. The Untold excitement running through Luna’s mind cannot be expressed in words. She met him again and this time she wanted to hold him in a hug.
“Good morning dear” Luna said, and swallowed hard. Why isn’t Richard with her, but then, she doesn’t need him at all. He wants a DNA report, she wants her son.
“A really surprising good morning to you ma’am” Patrick said, offering her a seat. His apartment wasn’t that big but okay for a starter like him.
“How are you doing Patrick?” Luna asked, holding her handbag tightly. It’s a cold morning but her palms were sweaty already. She could perceive the aroma of freshly prepared coffee and she liked it.
“I’m fine. You look agitated, are you alright?” Patrick asked. She doesn’t look like she had visited, it seemed to him that she had come for something else. She isn’t even agreeing to sit down.
“I hope to be alright when I leave here” she said and that confirms Patrick’s thought.
He smiled and said “Fine. Let’s have breakfast first. Then you’ll tell me what I need to do to make you leave in a happy state” he chimed.
“No, I’m fine. I have come to invite you over for lunch” Luna said. She couldn’t bring herself to tell him that she came to find him as his mother or that he’s the son she held in her hands that day and after that he didn’t get to meet him again.
“Oh that, you could have just placed a call across. You didn’t have to come over to do that” Patrick stuttered.
Luna smiled and nodded. She was eager to meet him. She wants to see his face. She wants to meet him again and hold him in a hug. It wasn’t about the invitation but about the emotional feelings of motherhood that kept her awake all night.
Patrick felt something was off but couldn’t lay his fingers on it. There was more to that lunch than sharing a table of dishes and feeling loved and cheerful.
“What exactly is going on, he mumbled silently to himself”
In Lester mansion, Anna was pleading with Richard to pardon her. She had allowed the devil to make her heart its playground.
“What are you begging me for? What about Luna, that woman spent more than half of her life away in prison. You took away her freedom from her.
Her career ruined, her love life shattered, her son separated from her and now you are sorry? I didn’t know you have a playground in that heart of yours.
You should have shown all of us the way there, perhaps it would have been cheaper to host a soccer tournament there.
You’ll pay for everything you did to Luna. I will ensure that I see it carried out. I will follow it up and give that innocent woman justice” Richard seethed and walked away not interested in the breakfast.
“Father please, talk to Richard. I’m sorry. I was wrong. He should think of my deteriorating health and spare me. I’m a changed person now” Anna said, turning and pleading with her father in-law.
“What do you want me to talk to Richard about?” Grandfather asked, turning his gaze on Anna before continuing “That Luna and her son should remain cheated or that he should turn his face away from justice. Which of the two should I say?”
Before Lunch, Adrian Lester arrived home. Really sickly as if he would die any moment. Immediately, his bodyguard crowded around him and Clem instructed, “call the doctor”
He was almost fainting as he was helped into his bedroom. Even Anna was dazed and she took her phone and called Richard but the latter didn’t answer his phone.
Grandfather Lester was surprised. Why is Adrian so pale and thin? Did something terrible happened to him?
The doctor was informed and everyone just stayed calm waiting for the first doctor’s arrival. Adrian couldn’t even lift a finger, his injury was still fresh but he didn’t regret that he left X-city. It is better for him that way.
Meanwhile Richard and Luna had spoken. They’re having Lunch with Patrick at noon. He’d arrived there and Luna also, both waiting for their son. It wasn’t quite a few minutes later, Patrick arrived, clasping his hands apologetically.
“I’m sorry, I’m a few minutes late already…” he said, wondering why uncle Richard is with Ms Luna.
Are they close acquaintances?
Anyways, that’s not the issue now. Lunch time. Both Richard and Luna welcome him and tell him to sit down.
Luna could feel the connection. She missed his childhood. And he in return missed the love and affection of a mother. She tried to hide her tears but how long can she do it?
She raised her head to glance at her son again, and their eyes locked. Immediately, her eyes watered. She kept her gaze on him, she couldn’t look away and that alone made Patrick stop smiling.
“What is the matter, Ms Luna? Are you alright?” Patrick asked and Richard glanced at Luna. She was sobbing now, it wasn’t just tears, it was a quiet sob with tears cascading seamlessly down her cheeks.
“It’s alright Luna” Richard consoled. Maybe because he’d known Patrick for years, he wasn’t someone new to him anymore except that the relationship of father to son was not there, he found it easier to hold back, to put his emotions to check.
“I’m sorry Patrick, I’m sorry that you have to live your life the way it went. I…wished…it…didn’t have…” she couldn’t say anything else, her voice choked.
“I don’t understand you Ms Luna. You were at my place this morning but your actions and words were absurd to me. And now, you’re saying something else. Is there something I need to know?” Patrick Connor asked, lost and confused.
“Sit down Patrick. Actually, Luna and I have been searching for you for a while now. We just got to know about you yesterday and…” he paused and glanced at Luna.
Patrick doesn’t understand. Searching for him? Didn’t uncle Richard know how he could find out about his whereabouts, that he now searches for him?
“I don’t understand you, uncle,” Patrick confessed.
“I know you don’t, actually Luna and I…honestly this is not Luna’s fault at all. She’s innocent and she’s the victim here. If you must blame anyone, that person should be me. Blame me however you want please” Richard pleaded.
“You still haven’t said anything sir” Patrick stuttered and glanced at Luna again, she sniffled and cleaned her tears and stared at Patrick, her eyes red.
“We are your parents, Patrick” Richard declared and glanced at Luna, she nodded and added “Your biological parents”
