With one resolute statement, “I don’t believe you,” Georgia Adams managed to unsettle the confident young man, whose face tightened in frustration.
Despite his elaborate story, she had dismissed it all with one phrase.
Kendall, not holding back, erupted with anger, “How dare you question the Commander’s identity?”
Having spoken her piece, Georgia felt her confidence returning. Despite the imposing aura of the man in front of her, she stood firm. “I simply don’t believe my husband would lie to me.”
Kendall sneered with contempt. “You fool. Do you think your husband could command such authority as the Commander here? Do you think he would choose someone like you? You’re delusional if you think you’re worthy of him.”
His words were laced with venom, belittling Georgia and implying she wasn’t deserving of someone as powerful as the true Defender of Seclela.
Gesturing to the five figures behind the young man, Kendallcontinued, “This is the Commander’s legendary Zodiac Generals. Does your husband have an entourage like this?”
Georgia’s mind whirled, but a memory surfaced of the mysterious armed team that had arrived at the hotel to protect Kayden. She fired back, “I know. I even know Greedy Woolf. And I also know that the Zodiac Generals have long left Battlefield, with one even rumored to have died!”
Kendall’s face twisted with rage. “Lies! The Zodiac Generals are here now. You’re courting death with such slander!”
“Enough!” The young man’s icy voice cut through the tension. He stepped closer to Georgia, his expression dark with menace.
“So, you truly refuse to believe me?” he asked, his voice low and frigid.
Looking directly into his eyes, Georgia was terrified, but she held her ground. The love and trust she felt for Kayden Scott strengthened her resolve. Standing tall, she replied, “Yes. I don’t believe you. I don’t believe my husband would deceive me. In fact, it’s you who’s lying!”
Pointing a finger at him, she spoke with conviction.
The young man laughed, but the sound was chilling, more a howl of frustration than genuine amusement, sending a shiver down Georgia’s spine.
“Commander,” the woman in red stepped forward, offering with dark eagerness, “allow me to end this defiant fool.”
The young man stopped her with a raised hand, turning his attention back to Georgia. “It seems he’s truly deceived you. But I’ll make you an offer: reveal his whereabouts, and I’ll spare you. In fact, I’ll make you and your family the most powerful in Hiphia. The Saint Dragon Business Association’s investment will be yours, and the Adams family will be elevated to Hiphia’s elite, perhaps even ascending to the ranks of Southland’s nobility.”
Gasps filled the room as those around, especially the business tycoons, gawked with envy. It was an offer beyond measure, and everyone believed it to be the wisest choice for Georgia and her family.
But Georgia, undeterred, only grew firmer. “I have no interest in your power or your investments,” she replied coldly.
The young man’s face darkened, his patience clearly at its limit. “So, you refuse to cooperate?” he asked, his tone chillingly sharp.
Georgia’s voice rose, defiant, “I’ll never betray my husband. And even if I did, you wouldn’t dare face him. You claim to control everything about him, yet here you are, seeking information from me. You just want to force me to betray him. But I won’t. You know why? Because my husband has something you lack-an aura, a strength of spirit that you can’t imitate!”
The young man’s face contorted as her words hit a raw nerve. No matter how much he’d tried to model himself after the true Defender, he couldn’t escape his own limitations. Her words cut deep, exposing his own doubts and insecurities.
Biting his lip, he finally snapped, his voice trembling with rage. “Very well. Since you’ve chosen to defy me, I’ll show you no mercy! Kill her!” He paused, then added venomously, “Then, exterminate the entire Adams family! I’ll see them erased from existence!”
His voice rang with the cold finality of a death sentence. The woman in red stepped forward, her gaze burning with lethal intent as she advanced on Georgia like a specter from the underworld.
