102. Goodbye ‘Party’

MAYA
I watched as Adam and his brothers kept looking around the area where they had beaten me to near death, in scrutiny, as if they were searching for something, as if they were trying to remember something.
Did this place make them uncomfortable as it made me? Are their hearts bleeding in guilt for the atrocity that they had committed against me, because their ego had been bruised? I hope so. I hope it bleeds to death.
Beside me was Diana. She was watching them too. They had come, with the other elders of the pack, to wish goodbye to the witches’ community this morning.
I could see Naomi’s parents-I hadn’t taken the time to seek them out at the party that night; seeing my mother had done enough disorganizing problems on me.
I was so happy to see them though, that I hadn’t known when a smile slithered across my lips, until I saw the strange look of confusion on Rebekah’s face.
She returned the smile still, and gave me a little wave, to the surprise of Naomi who didn’t think she ever introduced me to her mother in my short stay here.
“Do you know her?” Diana asked, nudging my hand with her shoulder.
“Yes, she is Naomi’s mother. She had been one of the few people that had been kind to me during my stay here.”
I knew that the cloaking mechanism was on, and I also knew that the exchange between I and Naomi’s mother hadn’t gone unnoticed by Adam.
He was looking at me, like he was trying to figure me out, just like Naomi, and his three brothers. Well, goodluck with that.
“Thank you again, Queen Aliana, for gracing us with your presence these past few days. I hope that we do this more often. In the show of the recent progress between us, my son, Adam would be going with you and your people. I hope it won’t damper your special mode of movement. He is coming along just to see the community… the people whom he would have joint leadership over…”
What! I screamed mentally in my head. Adam was going with us? I sighed, wondering what mess this was.
Here was I thinking I could finally get rid of the mask, without fearing for my face to be seen by someone from this pack, and now the shithole was going with us?
Well, I would just have to lock myself inside the house. I thought, my ears still akin to what the King was saying.
“He will just be staying for today; will be back here tomorrow. He would also be coming during the weekends, you know, to get more acquainted with your daughter, whom I am sure is still in school. That way, things will be better with time. What do you think of that?” Mr. Brekan asked Queen Aliana, who but for a slight hesitation on her part, nodded enthusiastically about the development.
“That is a great idea, Alpha. If that is all, then we will have to be on our way.”
Alpha Brekan nodded, before gesturing at a shocked Adam to follow us.
Dude hadn’t been let in on his father’s plan. Which clothes was he supposed to wear? I wondered, my eyebrows arising in surprise when his step mother handed him a sack.
In her eyes were an apology and a story that told of her ignorance about the development too until a few minutes ago.
I hadn’t expected Adam to understand, but he nodded gracefully before marching toward us, or rather toward me. Was the guy stupid?
“Can’t we go with him?” I heard Noah ask his father, and shook my head. Not them too please.
“No, Adam alone for now. You both can follow him next week.” Brekan said, before turning around, and walking away, believing that his subordinates would follow him out.
The goodbye party was over, yet Daniel and Noah remained behind.
As Noah conversed with Adam, whom he had successfully stopped from coming to me; as the queen was assembling the people with strong magic in the first row, to make a possible accommodation for Adam, Daniel walked up to me, with a careful smile on his face.
I would have found it funny if not for the fact that we were literally standing at the point where they had beaten me to near death.
“What do you want, Daniel?” I asked, folding my arms across my chest, wishing that Diana was closeby.
Her mother had called her away to join the queen’s circle, since her power was too strong, even for a girl as young as that.
“Nothing Dora.. I just wanted to make sure we are on good terms with you. I don’t want you to leave, holding a grudge against me. I am sorry for my atrocious behaviors these past days, and if in some way I had offended someone close to you in the past-that’s the only explanation for your dislike for I and my siblings, I presume-then I am sorry. I say that on behalf of my brothers too.”
There was no need to cause a ruckus here, so I just nodded my head, and looked away. But he remained there, standing, looking at me, with that goofy smile on his lips. I hated it.
I hated that he was talking to me. I hated that I would be talking with him.
Being in this place, at this time, was upsetting me more than I bargained for. It was taking me a numerous amount of energy not to shout at him, not to shout at them, and call them murderers.
“I heard you, Daniel. It is fine.” I muttered, not knowing what else to say.
I watched as Noah stepped toward him, and tapped him on the arm. Time to go.
I also watched as Adam walked to me, not minding the furrows on the forehead of Daniel.
“Adam, you should be with Rachel, not Dora. Don’t worry. I have apologized on behalf of us . We are cool now. You should go before Rachel burns a hole in your head.” Daniel spoke, causing Noah to chuckle.
Adam gave me a last glance before turning around and walking to a Rachel, who really was burning holes.
In my head though.
