92. Mockery

Book:The Nemesis Of The Lycan Triplets Published:2024-11-26

“This girl is just so full of herself..” Claire stated. She must have noticed that I was appealing to Adam. Took a second.
“What else would I be full of, Claire, shit? Apologies my dear, but not everyone is like you. I, specifically, refuse to be full of that.” I said, without waiting a beat.
Naomi cackled first, then the rest joined, including Adam.
I rested back on the pillar, feeling a bit content, after that.
Diana jabbed me lightly, but I knew she was happy that I was getting along, or rather pretending to get along.
Claire was red in the face. She stood up sharply, attempting to walk toward me, and maybe, I don’t know, throw out a slap or something, but Adam held her back.
“It was just a joke, Claire. You don’t need to get worked up about it.”
I watched her deflate and sink back to her position on the pavement. Her anger wasn’t totally out, but it was diffused now.
The power of Adam. Sickening. To think I had been under the influence.
By this time, Duke has taken advantage of the situation to save his own face. He had released my hand after Claire had spoken, and was now back to his seat, still staring at me.
Great. I have managed to snag his attention roo. Hopefully, he wouldn’t be much trouble to me back at the community.
“So, Dora, how do you know Claire’s name?” That was Daniel. Ever the observing geek.
I took a pause, calming my exteriors which were bubbling to fidget.
“I heard of her last night: the lady who seems to have slept with the three lycan boys the most. I would have to say that is a beautiful achievement.” I lied through my teeth, shrugging my shoulders when Raul’s mouth dropped open, unable to tear his gaze from me.
He was handsome. I would have to admit it, even with his mouth open like a baboon.
Diana chuckled, relaxing more into me. I was sure she was enjoying this. There were snickers from Rachel, and I could tell that she was happy I was putting Claire under the heat.
She should be happy that she wasn’t on my bad rader.
But why would I think that? I refused to think on the why and rather focused on Claire who had stood up again, and was marching toward me. Not even Adam could stop her this time around. He rather looked at me, and shrugged his shoulders.
“Don’t worry, I can handle her.” Diana said, masked of course. But before she could magically zap Claire back to her seat, Rachel already did that.
“Take a seat, Claire. She was just joking.”
Claire looked like she wanted to cry. She looked at Adam to say something, anything in her defense, but dude turned away.
Of course, why would he put the treaty between the two communities in penury because of a pussy?
Claire, seeing that she couldn’t do anything, glared at Rachel who smirked at her-the princess must have known that Claire was her competition-right before turning aside to glare at me, and stomp out of the hall.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish” Duke mentioned. “No offense guy..” He muttered to Adam who just shrugged his shoulders.
Was that how low he saw Claire? I wondered, noting the aloofness in his face. If this was how low he perceived her, I wondered how he had perceived me. An ant in the hole, probably. A sickly ant.
“That was fun. But why were you tackling her?” Noah inquired, looking at me.
“She tackled me first, in case you were blind to see that.” I answered in a bored tune.
Noah raised up his two hands as if in surrender. “Please take it easy on me, I was just curious. You know, you are meeting her for the first time, and already biting her head off; a passerby will think that you both have some unresolved issues or something.”
“So, when did you turn to her defense? Her pussy really must have did you in.”
Laughter broke out again, but I never lost sight of his face, and so I knew when the jovial countenance switched to anger.
He glared at me, but I remained unruffled, the mask helping me on my mission.
Perhaps, this isn’t really a bad idea. The mask, I mean.
I noted Daniel tap him on his thigh, perhaps to calm him down, and almost snickered. Let him be. I wanted to watch him fall in the same hole as Claire.
A little jab, and they felt this way? Too bad.
Adam was still watching me. It would have been unnerving, but the other guys were too. Rachel and Naomi were doing the same.
“So, Dora, you wanna tell us where you are from? Mom just said you came from the city, but I have never heard of you, and she never gave details.” Rachel asked, folding her arms across her chest, reclining her head on Adam’s shoulder.
“Nowhere. I think you should just be okay with your mother’s explanation.” I answered, tapping Diana on the arm.
It was time to leave. They were too interested in knowing who I was. A little slip, and they will find out Dora is a fraud. And the princess knew my first name.
Rachel blanched at my statement, not expecting that I would be crass with her too, but I wasn’t bothered with that.
“What’s the matter? You want to go?” Diana asked.
I nodded my head. There was nothing much to be done here.
“You know, you should apologize to her. She can make your life a living hell.” Duke said, obviously over protective of his sister, not happy that she was on the receiving end of my mockery too.
“She is the princess too. There should be some respect there, or haven’t Laura and Peter drilled enough history to you?” He continued.
I scoffed. “She can make my life a living hell? I wouldn’t think that if I were you. After all, what do you know about me, apart from me being Laura’s niece?” I asked back, getting on my feet.
Diana chuckled again, receiving a sharp glare from Duke, but little Diana wasn’t one to be scared.
My eyes found Adam, and this time around, I shivered a bit, but only because I knew that he knew I was making empty threats.
He knew I had no magic.
