I’m hurting his feelings? Like seriously, the idiot had the audacity to complain that I was hurting his feelings?
I didn’t blame him though. He didn’t know who I was. He thought that I was his newest conquest, the new girl that would grace his bed.
The bastard!
Without much ado, I flinged his arm away, my face scowling, unable to help the expression this time around.
Quickly, I retrieved a handkerchief from my bag and cleaned my hand, the exact spot where he had touched.
As I cleaned, I cussed, aware that tears were beginning to brim in my eyes. Another side effect of the drugs? I didn’t know. But I kept on cleaning my hand, becoming unaware of my surroundings, until Diana laid a hand on my busy hand, halting my frantic motions, driving me back to consciousness.
There was explicit worry in her eyes that broke my heart. I think it was at this moment that she began to see why I had needed the extra dose of the pills. I would have been a freaking ball of mess by now if not for the extra.
Then I looked at Daniel. He had a very confused look on his face, just before he turned his face, and glanced at Naomi and Noah, who I saw now had been watching the entire event, my mother too.
My mother.
She was staring at me, like she could see me, like she could see her Maya. But Naomi was snickering with Noah. They found it funny that Daniel had been dismissed.
Noah whispered something to Noami’s eyes, and for a moment I saw pain flash through her eyes, before he began to saunter toward us.
What now? I wondered, trying to understand what was going on.
Already I was beginning to garner attention from the girls of the pack, and my community.
It was good that the queen had tasked everyone not to talk about me to the neighboring communities, till they had found out everything there was to know about me. Peter had told me about this when I returned from the store, a few days ago.
Apparently, the queen had had another meeting, this time with representatives of families, tasking them to inform their kids about the new kid in the block.
Then I had thought that she must have an ulterior motive for doing that, but now I could never be more grateful. I knew that the community members wouldn’t reveal anything they knew about me. They would only say, ‘she is the daughter of our doctor’s sister, who had been frolicking in the human town for years, and recently came back.’
The best story ever. I guess.
Noah was near me now. He stopped beside a still confused Daniel who was raking me with his eyes, partly out of sheer lust and admiration, partly out of curiosity. I had awakened the curiosity pang within him.
“Hello, beautiful one. Please don’t mind the rudeness of my brother, Daniel. He can be overwhelming sometimes. My name is Noah, and you are highly welcomed to the lycan community.” Noah stated, stretching his hand toward me for a handshake.
I looked down at the hand, and had to control myself with all the power in me, from spitting on it.
Diana rolled her eyes, before looking up to me. This girl’s loyalty was another case to tear up for. She was waiting on me for instruction, for what to do. But then I didn’t know what to do.
Take the hand? I would rather die than do that. So, I resolved to ignore him.
And that I did.
I looked around the hall for the umpteenth time, a stiff smile on my lips when my eyes met Laura’s. She was watching too.
My smile was stiff because right beside her was the queen. She had been watching too, all this while.
Oh no.
Couldn’t the woman take her eyes off me for a second? Just a tiny second. Was that too hard to ask? I wondered, letting out a breath. I needed some fresh air. This time, without Diana. I wanted to be left alone.
I had almost forgotten that Noah was still standing, waiting for a handshake, until he spoke with a note of incredulity and anger sourced from a hurt to his ego.
Dimwits!
“Hey, it’s rude to leave a hand hanging around. Do you know who we are? I hear you haven’t been around for a while. Well, I am the…”
Diana coughed then. Intentionally, if you ask me, interrupting Noah’s next words.
“I am the…” Noah tried a second time.
Diana sneezed this time around, without apologizing to the guys. When she was done, she shrugged her shoulders at their annoyed gazes, before winking at me, an act that didn’t go unnoticed by the boys.
“Hey, stop doing that on…” Daniel was speaking this time around, but he paused when Diana released a loud yawn.
“Okay, that’s it!” He huffed, about to grab Diana, when the little girl just flicked her hand to the right, and he was down to the ground with his buttocks, in the next second.
His face showed that he was struggling to understand how he had fallen down so embarrassingly.
Ooh the joy that filled my soul. I almost high five-d Diana for the act well done, but for the fact that we were now the object of attention, or rather Daniel was.
Only a handful of people knew that Diana or I had pushed Daniel with magic.
Daniel, noticing this, noticing his father’s glare, stood up from the ground and bowed majestically, managing to retain his honor and dignity even though his trousers were now dusty. Then, he walked out of the hall, but not before sparing me a glance, a still curious glance. He was not offended. He was intrigued.
“Why did you do that? Why are you unwilling to talk? The rumors didn’t say you are dumb.” Noah was saying. He sounded annoyed now.
“That’s because she is not.” Diana interrupted.
“Now you..” Noah started, pointing at Diana but I was having none of it.
“Get lost Noah. You reek of shit.” I said, speaking up for the first time, sending shock waves down his spine.
