Chapter 65
“This is where I thought it was.” Alpha, Damon said in a low tone as he walked slowly through the leaves that were almost up to his chest region. He did not seem to remember the way that led to the lake again. He stood in the middle of the woods, tilting his head around as he looked for a direct road that led to the lake. “Whatever it is that led me to that lake that day, I need you to lead me to it now.” He whispered to himself, beating the leaves to make a rustling sound.
He scoffed out of frustration as she did not know where to go to get to the lake again. “Perhaps I should get angry all over again from what Princess told me yesterday. But it had settled in already, and I can’t seem to get angry about it again.” He thought as he continued to walk away from where he stood, trying to retrace his steps back to his mansion. Suddenly, he got the idea to go back to the mansion and act out the whole scenario as it played yesterday when princess first told him about Ava and her pregnancy. He nodded, accepting the idea as he hurriedly rushed back home.
“I sat on this side of the dining yesterday.” He whispered as he gestured his position where he sat down, tilting his head to look at the space where princess sat down. “This was where she sat down yesterday.” He thought as he stood up abruptly and walked out hurriedly, to the exit. He rushed through the bush into the woods. “Lead me there.” He whispered and not long after, he caught a scent. “That’s it.” He said as he quickly halted his steps. He sniffed around, tracing the scent to where it came from.
He moved rapidly towards the place that his nose led him, certain that it was the scent of his mate that he caught. Just as he was moving slowly, he suddenly had a clear sight of two people who sat down beside the lake talking. He was careful enough not to go too close so as not to draw their attention, as he watched from afar. “It was her, after all. Ad I was sure that it was her yesterday as well.” He thought as he watched her talk and gestured towards her friend as they had no idea that he was watching from behind.
He tried to pay attention to what they were saying, which caused him to take some steps further and caused the dried leaves to rustle. Ava and Mika suddenly stopped talking immediately as they heard the sound of leaves rustling on the ground, and they tilted their heads around to see if anyone was coming. Alpha Damon stood there stiff as he did not want to make any more noise to grab their attention he only took a deep breath, peeping through the space of the leaves, and after a while, they went back to what they were saying.
“That was a close one.” He said, exhaling rapidly through the mouth as it took a slight “o” shape. He did not know what else to do at that moment, as he only stood there and listened to what they were talking about. He watched them talk and tried to listen to their conversation to make what exactly they were talking about. Ava’s face was the only visible one among the two as he was completely backed by the second person. It was not a thing of interest to him to find out who it was, as he was only concentrated on Ava.
“How can one be as beautiful and stunning as this, yet you allow yourself to be fucked by different men? I have no idea why the moon goddess had decided to punish me by mating both of us together.” He whispered to himself as he took a deep breath, tilting his head away for a moment before finally bringing it to a stop as he decided to listen to what they were talking about. He leaned forward a bit, but they were not audible enough for him to hear, and he thought of a way to get closer to them.
Alpha Damon took out time to think of a way to get closer to them, but he could not think of any way. He was so curious to know what they were talking about. “Something was still off about it. Even if Princess was telling the truth, bi still couldn’t believe her completely because I didn’t trust her that much to do so. She must have something else in mind, and also a reason for doing such.” He thought as he heaved a sigh, trying to stop himself from thinking far and wild. Just then, he heard them chuckle, and he stopped thinking about all that to listen to them if he could get something.
“I think it’s time.” He heard Ava say suddenly in a loud tone, and her friend tilted her head to give her a surprise look as she checked her phone. He guessed that she checked to see the time. “Are they about to leave?” He asked himself as he waited for the other person to talk.
“But it’s just six pm. How can we leave now? I don’t want to leave now.” She murmured, but he was able to put one or two words together to guess what she was trying to say, shaking her head repeatedly.
“Who is talking about leaving? I am not talking about that at all. The peace I get when I am here is second to none. I love it here, especially when you are around.” Ava said, and her friend heaved a sigh of relief as she lowered her head for a moment before arranging properly, and the side of her face was slightly visible. He still could not recognize who was sitting there.
“What then are you talking about?” She asked in a sharp, but low tone as Ava brought back her gaze to look at her.
“I was talking about, taking a leave from work. You know, maternity leave so that I could take good care of myself and my growing child.” She said in a low tone as she gestured by placing a hand on her stomach and rubbed gently. “Leave from work, to take care of another man’s baby? There is no way I would grant her that leave. I will make sure that she comes to work every day until the day that she is due for delivery.” He whispered to himself as he clenched his teeth hard and gave Ava a scornful look.
“I was thinking of that too. Now that he knows that you are pregnant, it should not be that hard for him to give you the leave, except if he wanted to be the devil that he already is.” Her friend said, and he could not hold his gasp. His eyes went wide as he could not believe that Ava had been talking about him to her friend. Ava gave her a sharp look, taking a deep breath before she leaned backward to lie down.
“Yeah. I will do that when I return to the office tomorrow. I should have the letter of request ready by tomorrow.” Ava said, placing her hand on her face as she took a deep breath. “What does this Ava take me for? After fucking around and getting pregnant for some random guy, she still had the guts to talk ill about me to her friend.” He thought. At this point, he was getting angry slowly.
“What about alpha Jude?” Mika suddenly asked, and Ava opened her eyes immediately at the mention of his name, causing her to stare deep into her friend’s eyes. “She talks about Alpha Jude to her too?” He asked himself.
“I mean, he still thinks he is the owner of the child right?” She added even before Ava could come up with a straight answer to her initial question. “Wait, so alpha Jude knows about the pregnancy even before I knew about it.” He asked himself as he focused on hearing more of what they were saying.
“Yeah… He still thinks he owns the child, but I am not ready to tell him the truth either.” Ava said with a tone of finality as she took a deep breath to calm her racing heart. She tilted her head slowly away from her friend and shook it gently.
“I think you should let him know. It should not be that hard to do.” Her friend said, and Ava gave her a stern look for a moment. At this moment, alpha Damon was feeling angry and could barely keep himself in place as he listened to what they were saying.
“How do you expect me to walk up to him and tell him about all of that.” She asked sharply and rapidly as if the words were coming as fast as she spoke them. “Wait, is there more to what is going on?” He asked himself as he began to feel lost in their conversation.
“Well, I don’t know, but I feel it’s better to let him in on it.” She said, and Ava started to sniff, tilting her head around the whole place as if she had caught a scent. I totally forgot that she could catch my scent from where I stood because of how angry I was at that moment.
“What is going on? Why are you sniffing?” He heard her friend ask suddenly as she noticed what Ava was doing.
