Chapter 40
Alpha Damon was engrossed in his work, his eyes scanning the ledger that Will had brought in a while ago, he could spot some errors and he did not like it.
Whoever entered this particular ledger either had something fishy going on, or perhaps just made honest mistakes.
A subtle “hi” startled him from his work and he lifted his eyes to see Princess.
“Hi Princess, I did not hear you come in, how long have you been standing there.” He had honestly not heard her enter and most certainly did not see her standing there, that was why he asked.
“A while, you were so focused I would rather not distract you,” she said with a smile.
But you just did, alpha Damon thought, holding back an eye roll. His eyes popped out of their sock eats when she leaned over his desk, her boobs practically pouring out of her dress.
They looked perfect, a little too perfect to be natural, but he brushed that aside. They still looked very attractive, and he forced his gaze was from them, swallowing loudly.
His eyes lifted to meet hers, and her smile suggested to him that she had gotten the wrong idea from what he had just done. He was a man of course he was bound to look, and while they looked good he did not want any part of it.
She walked to his side of the desk, he noticed her hips sway a little more aggressively than usual, and she sat with her legs crossed so that he saw her thigh right up to where they crossed to form a v for around her red panties, but did not say anything.
“And you look stressed, I could help you with that, you know.” A chuckle almost left his lips as he thought over her words.
I was not stressed until you came into this office, you stressed me! Alpha Damon said in his mind. A surprised look in his eyes at her boldness when she brushed a stray strand off his face.
Perhaps he had been silent for too long, and his silence was slowly fueling her audacity. Her eyes were focused on him, and she looked like she would jump him if she could.
Like she wanted a piece of him, In a way he could not give her. Deciding he had had enough of her mischief, he turned to look at her.
“Uhm… Princess, I was busy before you came in, as you can see… I would like to…” his words caught in his throat at her next move.
She shushed him, Princess just shushed him, and in the most sexual and seductive way she could come up with.
Her finger smelled like syrup and honey, she probably had pancakes with those, he thought as his still-shocked self tried to process everything.
Her finger trailed down, past his lips, down his chest his eyes followed the finger, amazed at how bold she had gotten since their last encounter.
Lifting his head, his eyes found hers, and before he could process what was happening, her lips fell on his and he flew wide.
He wanted to push her away, wanted to pull away from the kiss, but she seemed determined, and her kiss was strong, dominant even.
“Damon, I…” he pushed her away the instant he heard that voice, he could not imagine what went through her mind when the sight unfolded before her eyes.
Her face fell, she looked shocked, like she had just seen a ghost.
Alpha Damon felt his world crash, the last time he had seen that look on her was when he had tossed her out in the rain many years ago.
And after so long, he felt like he was doing it all over again. Like he had just tossed her in that rain again.
Her voice cracked a little when she uttered the next words, and Alpha Damon could feel his heart break even more
Hurting her was something he had promised himself to never do again, and yet here he was doing the very thing he promised never to do.
“I am so sorry, I did not… I will just come back later.” Ava said, dashing out of the office and not looking back.
He wanted to run after her, he wanted to explain to her that what she saw was not what it looked like. That Princess had come into him, and that he only had the hots for her and her alone.
But as he stood up to go after her, Princess stood before him, a defiant look on her face, and she looked like she was not going to move anytime soon.
He wanted to hurt her, to push her over to the side and run after the love of his life, but he could not do that, she was still his friend and he cared about her, and above all, she was a woman, and a fragile one at that.
“Excuse me,” Alpha Damon said as nicely as he could, holding himself back from yelling at her or cussing her out.
He knew she was annoying sometimes, but at this point, she was picking the wrong time to be annoying, and he hated that.
“Princess move!” He said again, more urgently, this time to prove his point.
But she did not budge, she did not look like she would move anytime soon, and he knew he might hate himself for what he was going to do next, but he would have no other choice.
“What is with her, alpha Damon?” She asked, almost like she could not believe that he was smitten by her.
“I love her Princess, I am in love with her. Do you understand?” He asked.
“No, no, I do not understand,” she said shaking her head in the negative.
While he wanted to dissect the matter and explain to her in profound detail how he felt about Ava, he knew he still had to explain what she saw to her, and the more time he wasted, the more in trouble he got.
“I love you, Damon….” She started and lost him after that first line.
Alpha Damon could not even stand listening to her talk about him like that. He did not love her and would never love her romantically. All he had and would ever have for her was a soft platonic love.
He would have hated her by now if she did not hold a
Place in his heart and if they did not have so much history as friends.
When her mouth stopped moving, he zoned back in and stared at her for a few seconds before he said the words that followed.
“No Princess. I never loved you romantically, ever.” He watched her face fall instantly.
He could hear the fragments of her heart shatter across the floor when he said that. He did not mean to just her, but he had to say what had to be said.
He was not going to lead her on or make her dwell on her weird ass delusions.
“…and I never will, not in this lifetime and not in another. It will always be Ava.” Alpha Damon continued. Making sure to stress every word of the last part, he wanted to drill the words into her skull and hoped she would understand them.
She looked visibly shaken and broken, and he saw her struggle it breathe. He did not feel sorry for her, not even a little. She brought this upon herself.
Walking past her and brushing against her a little, he ran out the door to find Ava. He had to explain everything at once, or she might assume the wrong things.
Her office was empty when he opened her door, and his heart fell a little. She was nowhere to be found, and he hoped she was still somewhere around.
Walking over to the break room, he hoped he would find her but was disappointed when he did not see her red dress-clad self.
What if she had gone, what if she had believed what she had seen and lost trust in him?
A sigh of relief escaped his lips when he heard her voice from across the room. He walked up to her.
“Hi, Ava, can I talk to you for a bit?” He asked.
“No,”
“Please,” he pleaded, knowing fully well that he would kneel and ask her to speak to him if he had to.
“Okay,” Ava said nonchalantly as they both walked over to a secluded part of the room.
“What you saw in there…”
“You do not have to explain yourself to me, you are a grown man with the freedom to do whatever and whoever he wants, we are not even together so…” Ava said, shrugging after she finished her short speech.
Alpha Damon was a little taken aback and disappointed, he had expected her to at least be concerned, but maybe she did not love him enough to care who he made out with.
It was heartbreaking, but he still had to explain to her
