OLIVIA
“I bet I should leave and let you two sort out your issues. It seems I came at the wrong time,” Adrian panicked. The heat was too much on him despite his innocence.
“Stay back!” Cyril halted Adrian the moment he was about to leave.
My heart started beating faster.
I was scared that Cyril already found out about my one-night stand with Adrian
After a second thought, I quickly debunked the possibility of Cyril ever finding out. He’s been in the hospital for the past few days fighting to regain his sanity.
The only person who’s most likely to reveal to Cyril is Kate and I don’t see that happening. To start with, she doesn’t even like Cyril, let alone make a move to reveal sensitive information to him, knowing how detrimental it would be to not just my marriage but my career.
“Why did you stop me from leaving? I shouldn’t even be here in the first place,” Adrian’s voice skipped as he clamored to leave.
I refrained from getting myself involved to avoid raising eyebrows.
Adrian’s awkward attitude was even enough to start suspecting him for crimes he didn’t even commit
Stylishly, I signaled Adrian to stay composed, even if it meant forcing a smile to convince Cyril that his hand was clean.
“Why are you acting weird lately? You’re so in a haste to leave. Is there something you want me to know?” Cyril digressed from the actual discourse to officially launch his career as an investigative journalist on Adrian.
So far, he seems to be making progress, all thanks to Adrian who keeps fidgeting like a hen drenched by the rain
“I don’t know what you’re talking about. Why do you feel I’ve got something to tell you?” Adrian clapped back at Cyril as he attempted to regain his lost confidence.
That was precisely how I wanted him to speak to Cyril. Unfortunately for him, it seemed too late, as Cyril looked to gather the information he needed.
“Nevermind!
Forget I ever spoke about this,” Cyril backed off to my greatest surprise.
It was very strange to see him act that way. He never loses an argument, especially a delicate one like that.
“Over to you, Olivia. What the heck was running through your damn mind when you made such an outrageous deal with her?” Cyril attacked me yet again with his words. He had no weapon in his possession, yet I still felt like I’d been stabbed in the back a thousand times already.
I couldn’t speak in my defense anymore. I just let Cyril handle the situation his way. He would probably stop yelling at me when he’s done.
“I’m still waiting for your response. I don’t like being kept waiting for too long, and that’s precisely what you are doing to me right now. When am I getting paid?” Rene came for me with a scream. She leveraged Cyril’s dominance over me.
“Shut the fuck up, Rene. I’m not going to stand here and watch you speak to me in such a manner. We had a deal, and I will fulfill it,” I clapped back at Rene with immediate effect.
“What are you waiting for? Pay the damn money and watch me leave. Do you think I enjoy staying here for too long? No, dear,” Rene boasted. It didn’t seem like she was ready to leave anytime soon.
“I’m a bit curious to know. How do you intend to pay her? I do hope you don’t intend to tamper with the company’s funds. Because I’m not letting that happen,” Cyril asked me.
He won’t get off my case for a second.
I was slowly becoming a shadow of myself in front of everyone. Most especially Kate, my assistant. I doubt if she’s going to respect me anymore after this humiliation.
“What do you take me for? Do you think I’m too poor to have my savings? Just so you know, I don’t depend on the company’s funds, and neither do I intend to tamper with the company’s funds to pay Rene. The earlier you realize that the better for you,” I sang it right into Cyril’s ears to make him understand that I can never be ridiculed for anything in the world.
That was the only time I could beat my chest and say I got it right
“I see!
Somebody’s gradually having the guts to talk back to me. When you’re done writing, you’ll pay her off. I’m out of here,” Cyril scampered into the room the moment he felt defeated. Sadly, he can’t accept what he dishes out to others.
“Your husband is gone now but guess what? That’s none of my damn business. I want my money,” Rene raged shortly after Cyril stormed out of the living room.
“Come to the office tomorrow morning as I will write you a check!” I told Rene. It didn’t go down well with her, as she wanted it settled almost immediately.
“Should I come to the office? Didn’t you hear what your husband said?” Rene reminded me.
“Who cares about what my husband says? Do you want your money or not?” I was infuriated.
Cyril often lavishes that company’s funds on frivolous activities. Most especially, on Rene, and he sees nothing wrong with that.
It suddenly becomes a problem when I utilize the funds on something somewhat important.
“9 AM tomorrow, I will be in your office. Don’t you dare play games with me because you won’t like me in return,” Rene threatened me right in my matrimonial home and left like it was nobody’s business.
“Did you see what just happened?”
I focused my attention on Adrian, who was still sweaty. He hasn’t recovered from the traumatic experience Cyril made him go through.
The only person who was fortunate enough to escape the heat was Kate, and that’s because she was quiet the whole time. I doubt if anyone ever noticed her presence.
“I guess I need to start leaving now.
I can’t stand the heat. I can’t believe that your husband nearly found out about our dirty little secret,” Adrian wailed.
Traces of fright could still be found dwelling on his face. I couldn’t stop from leaving neither did I respond.
