They were all smart people; how could they not understand what this meant?
Ahmad was threatening.
After the Ellison family elevated the matter to a business level, Marilyn’s fever was no longer a simple issue.
Without hearing a response, Ahmad continued slowly, “I know you’re in a hurry, but Marilyn’s situation can’t be delayed either. You know how to weigh your choices.”
The call ended.
Bridger angrily threw the documents on the ground. “He’s forcing you to take a stand. Nelson, you can’t go; it’s a trap.”
The man’s sharp eyes scanned the endless night outside the window. “Since they want to see this play, let’s perform it for them. Arrange tonight’s flight and keep the itinerary confidential.”
Nelson’s concern for Marilyn in the midst of a crisis was exactly the attitude they wanted. If this could make the Ellison family withdraw their investment, he could afford it.
Bridger grabbed his hand, his eyes serious. “Have you thought this through? If Callie finds out, she’ll be disappointed.”
Nelson paused slightly. “… So the itinerary must remain confidential.”
“Nelson!”
“No choice left,” Nelson said word by word.
Bridger slowly let go of his hand.
The plane flew directly to Ylosea. After landing, Nelson headed straight to the Ellison family.
Entering the Ellison family premises, a Bentley flashed by in the rearview mirror, looking somewhat familiar.
Marilyn’s fever had subsided, and she was resting when Nelson entered, dressed in black and very low-key.
Marilyn was surprised and tried to sit up. “Nelson, why are you here? Weren’t you in Afupshire…”
Nelson smiled warmly and touched her forehead. “Hmm, no more fever.”
Marilyn seemed incredulous. “Did you… come back just to see me?”
Anthony chimed in, “Mr. Oconnor had me book a flight as soon as he got the news.”
Marilyn blushed and looked at Nelson’s deep eyes, feeling a sweet sensation in her heart.
Nelson asked a few questions about her health, never mentioning business matters. He just held her hand and said gently, “I have to leave tomorrow. You rest well.”
With that, he walked out. Once outside, his restrained aura completely dissipated. Ahmad was still waiting for him in the study.
Marilyn, like a cherished little girl, smiled happily and slowly took out her phone to capture Nelson’s departing figure.
In the photo, the man wore a black coat, his tall and striking figure highly recognizable.
In fact, Ahmad was also surprised. Nelson was not one to act on emotions, but he really came back.
In the study, two men with hidden agendas faced each other. Ahmad squinted his eyes. “Nelson, if you had been like this earlier, Oconnor Group wouldn’t have had to wade into these troubled waters.”
Nelson stood tall and smiled. “The decision to help Scott Group wasn’t made by Mr. Ellison, was it?”
With keen eyes, Ahmad nodded frequently and then sat down helplessly, looking up. “If you were my son, you would certainly achieve great things. Unfortunately, you’re not. My son is unworthy; only my daughter can succeed.”
Nelson sat opposite him. “Marilyn isn’t cut out for this.”
Afupshire.
The light in the operating room stayed on for four hours straight.
Outside, only Mollie waited.
Callie’s father was in Ylosea; in Afupshire, the closest person to her was Nelson, but he wasn’t there…
Every time a family member’s signature was needed, it was Mollie who signed, her eyes slightly red and her hand trembling uncontrollably. She began to regret agreeing to accompany Callie to find Nelson.
