“No, no…” The old man shook his head vigorously, his face full of disbelief. “It’s enough, we don’t need so much. It’s enough for me and my grandson to live on. I… I don’t have to be separated from my grandson anymore…”
As he spoke, tears streamed down his wrinkled face. All he ever wished for was a simple, warm home.
Seeing this, Sophia felt a pang in her heart, deeply moved.
Leo transferred the money to the old man and called a taxi to take him to the train station. Satisfied, he held the immortal grass in his hand and exclaimed, “Good deeds really do get rewarded. Such a precious thing came so easily!”
“Hmph, who should you thank?” Sophia glared at Leo angrily. “If you hadn’t come with me to get my hair done, would you have gotten such a valuable thing?”
“Yes, yes, thanks to my dear wife!” Leo laughed and hugged Sophia, giving her a big kiss.
“You’re such a pervert!” Sophia’s face turned bright red. “There are so many people around!”
“So what if there are people? I’m kissing my own wife!”
Leo chuckled and called for a car to take Sophia to get her hair done.
The next day, during lunch break, Leo’s phone rang.
It was an international call from Monica of the United States Medical Association.
Leo answered with a smile, “President Monica, how do you have time to call me?”
Although Leo and Monica had each other’s numbers, they seldom communicated.
Receiving Monica’s call now was quite surprising for Leo.
“Dr. Bloomer, I have good news for you!” Monica’s sweet voice carried a hint of excitement.
“Good news? What good news?” Leo asked with a puzzled smile.
“You’ll soon have the chance to treat me to a meal. Isn’t that great news?” Monica laughed.
Leo was momentarily stunned but then understood what Monica meant. “Are you saying you’re coming to Atraria?”
“Yes, I have some business in Atraria and thought I could visit you!” Monica’s voice was full of anticipation.
“Sure, when you get to Langstel, I’ll treat you to a feast!” Leo laughed.
“It’s a deal!” Monica said smoothly, then curiously asked, “By the way, Dr. Bloomer, how are you and your wife doing lately?”
“We’re doing well. Why do you ask?” Leo replied, puzzled.
“Oh, nothing.” Monica’s tone briefly showed a hint of disappointment but quickly returned to normal. “I prepared a gift for her. I’ll bring it when I visit.”
“Really? Thank you! Call me when you get to Langstel, and I’ll pick you up!” Leo said with a smile.
“OK!”
That night, in the bedroom of Cloud Dream Mountain Villa, just as Leo was about to get intimate with Sophia, his phone rang at an inconvenient moment.
Seeing the caller ID, Leo was surprised. It was Chasel calling, who rarely called him at night.
Leo answered, “Chasel, what’s up?”
“Sir, there are some emergency patients at the clinic. Please come quickly!” Chasel’s voice was urgent.
Leo frowned. “Chasel, I’ve told you before we don’t handle emergencies. Send them to the hospital!”
“Sir, I know your rules, but these people said they’ve been to the hospital. The emergency department couldn’t treat their condition. Many have died…”
“They’re all wearing military uniforms; they must be soldiers. Sir, please come!”
Chasel, being from the military himself, had a special affection for soldiers and hoped Leo would help treat them.
“Soldiers?” Leo was surprised but didn’t hesitate. “Alright, Chasel, have them wait. I’m on my way!”
Hanging up, Leo explained the situation to Sophia.
Understanding the urgency of saving lives, Sophia urged Leo to go quickly.
At the clinic, Leo saw several military vehicles parked outside.
The heavy tires were caked with mud mixed with hard stones, indicating they had traveled through rough terrain.
Two officers were speaking anxiously at the clinic entrance.
Leo glanced at them without asking questions and went straight inside.
To his surprise, Willow was also at the clinic.
The clinic’s hall floor was covered with military blankets. Five soldiers in camouflage lay there, with three or four others tending to them.
The soldiers lying on the ground had flushed faces, closed eyes, and labored breathing.
“Leo!” Willow called out upon seeing him, relieved as if seeing her anchor.
“Sir, you’re here!” Chasel hurried over to greet him.
Leo nodded solemnly and went straight to the nearest patient to check his pulse.
“Wait!” Willow stopped him urgently.
“What is it?” Leo asked.
“Look at his hand; it’s a rash symptom!” Willow pointed to the soldier’s wrist.
Leo examined closely and saw fine red bumps on the soldier’s wrist and hand. They were barely noticeable without careful inspection.
Leo frowned and instructed Chasel, “Chasel, get me some gloves.”
After putting on gloves Chasel brought him, Leo squatted down and checked the soldier’s pulse with increasing concern.
“Dr. Bloomer, how is it?” One of the officers who had come in asked urgently.
They didn’t know Leo personally but had heard of him. Seeing him checking pulses confirmed he was the legendary miracle-working doctor.
Leo frowned without answering immediately, focusing on the soldier’s pulse like a statue.
“Dr. Bloomer, our captain is asking you!” Another officer shouted impatiently.
“Please be patient; Dr. Bloomer needs time to diagnose,” Chasel quickly signaled them to be quiet.
