I was surprised by how calm Mrs. Edna seemed even though I could hear how disturbed her wolf was. I tried to be as calm as possible as she glided down the stairs in the most elegant manner that I had ever seen.
“Hello, young man.” She said calmly, her voice floating into my ears like the sound of rushing water.
“Good day Ma’am,” I greeted and bowed respectfully. She was still the Luna of the pack.
“Please sit.” She pointed at the seat behind me. I sat down gently, she also took a seat in one fluid motion. I tried not to think of how contrasting the aura she and her wolf had.
“I am from the King. I have a letter for Ashley.” I started as soon as she was settled.
“Oh, Ashley just left here. I hope that there is no problem?” She asked me, her composure still unchanged.
“Oh, not at all. The king had invited her some months back to join our technical and machinery team. She had indicated interest, so the king thought it wise to invite her officially.” I explained, and my eyes did a quick sweep of the house.
“Oh, that is so beautiful. I will have the letter handed over to her this evening. Or I can give you her address and have you deliver it yourself?” She suggested and I nodded my head.
“Oh no need to stress yourself, I can have it handed to her myself. That way, I can know if she will be joining us and when she will be.” I replied and she agreed.
I wondered if she always handed out her children’s addresses to anyone who claimed to be from the king.
It seemed a bit unsafe, but then I thought about the fact that if Alpha Rolan does not mind her working in such tasking conditions, she must have shown her capabilities.
She stood up and disappeared behind one of the doors that had the library marked on it. She came out a few seconds later with a card and some words written on it. I stood up to collect the card.
“That’s her address and her phone number. You can call her on your way to inform her that you are coming.”
“Thank you, ma’am. I am truly grateful for all your help.” I said, smiling at my luck.
“I like you. You seem like a nice guy.” She commented out of the blue.
“Oh, thank you so much.” I thanked her and made her leave the house.
“Take care of Ashley.” was all she said and I couldn’t hold back my surprise at her words.
“Alright, ma’am,” I said. As I was about to exit the house, my nose caught a faint scent that was very similar to that of the missing Luna.
I stopped in my tracks and took a deeper breath.
“Is everything okay?” She asked from behind me.
“Everything is fine ma’am. Just a scent I thought was familiar” I replied, not offering any more information and not lying to her either.
The scent was very faint, and I could have been wrong about whom it belonged to. All I was sure was someone with a similar scent to the missing Luna had been in this same house recently.
“I will be leaving now,” I said and hurriedly left the building.
I punched in Ashley’s number as soon as I got into the car. The phone rang multiple times and on the fourth ring, she picked up.
Her voice was husky and lazy. My wolf immediately became excited about the sound of her voice.
“Hello,” she said at the other end of the phone.
“Hello! My name is Caleb. I was sent to hand over a letter to you from Alpha Rolan, the king of wolves.” I announced calmly.
“Oh my! Okay.” She answered, her voice sounding very childlike with excitement.
“Okay. I have been to see your mom, she gave me your cell number and address. Do you mind if I come by to drop it? I will be needing an official response from you” I asked, trying to do anything to see her and praying she does not suggest that I drop the letter off somewhere.
I scolded myself, I was here for a mission and I needed to focus. For all I know, the missing Luna could be with her right now. I took in a deep breath and started my car.
I drove down to the address which was surprisingly very far from the town and also in an area that, I felt, was too secluded for a girl.
When the gate came into view, I called her, and she directed me to press a button at the gate and a code word. I opened the gate easily and drove into her house. It was a big and flashy white house with a massive pool area and lots of trees around.
I came out of the car and knocked on the door. I heard the shuffling of feet and even an excited squeal. Seconds later the door was opened, and my mouth fell open.
She was the most beautiful woman that I had ever set my eyes on. Her confident eyes were light green with specks of gold, they glowed like whips of flames in her eyes when caught by the hot afternoon sun.
She snapped her fingers in front of me.
“Hey messenger, don’t drool over the king’s woman.” She joked and laughed happily.
“Shit! Shit! Shit! What the heck does she mean by the king’s woman? Is she obsessed with Alpha Rolan and kidnapped the Luna because of that?” I immediately thought to myself. My mind became alert, and I drew in a deep breath, catching a scent on her that belonged to the missing Luna.
One thing I became sure about was that the Luna was still alive and was definitely around this family.
When I entered her living room, I was surprised that I could not pick up the scent anymore. She passed by my side and I realized that the scent was not in her house but on her. She was scenting just like the missing Luna. A distinctive smell mixed with a delightful scent that won’t stop tickling my wolf.
“Mate!” My wolf growled.
