The rest of the Allen family present observed her with bitter judgment and disgust before turning to leave as well.
The vision of Kathlyn’s life as the perfect Allen daughter- the one who could do no wrong in everyone’s eyes, has now been shattered to pieces. Her cover of being the innocent and genuine damsel in distress had finally been blown off.
She couldn’t believe how fast the tables had turned on her now, as she was now in Kourtney’s place, condemned by the rest of the family.
“Why?” she muttered under her breath, tears streaming down her face as she cursed the God Of Kourtney.
With a wild, desperate energy, Kathlyn began to lash out, smashing whatever she could against the wall. She didn’t give a damn in the world about destroying hospital property. She needed to vent so badly.
“I hate you! I hate all of you!” she screamed, her voice echoing off the walls.
It was in that fit of rage that she heard the door swing open again. She looked up to see Brandon, his tall frame silhouetted against the harsh hospital lights.
He looked battered, his right arm wrapped in a makeshift sling as if it were broken. His face was bruised, and he walked with a slight limp as if his legs hurt with every step.
Kathlyn’s scowl deepened, her eyes getting redder on sighting him. The last person she wanted to see right now was Brandon. He could get injured or die for all cared.
This was all his fault!
Brandon glanced around the severely damaged room and then sneered. He walked towards Kathlyn, looking at her with so much irritation and repulsion as if she made his skin crawl.
“How could you do this?” he demanded with a low and dangerous edge to his voice. “You killed our child, Kathlyn! I had so much hope for it. I wanted to be a great father. I was looking forward to experiencing parenthood, and you-”
“Don’t you dare say another word about that! You… you visited Kourtney and begged her to accept you again. You betrayed me first!” she interrupted, her tone rising in pitch while her eyes blazed red.
The fact that he crawled back to beg Kourtney like a lost puppy had hurt her pride deeply.
Brandon’s expression hardened. “That’s because I realized Kourtney is everything I truly ever wanted. I love her. And I never stopped loving her.”
Kathlyn’s heart twisted painfully in her chest. She laughed bitterly, the sound hollow and broken.
“Well… did you come here to break up with me? See, there’s no need for that. Getting rid of your child shows I’m over with you too,” she said proudly, feeling absolutely no remorse.
Brandon stepped even closer, his presence overwhelming. She could see it clearly in his eyes-the disgust, the hatred.
Right now, his self-loathing was detectable, each vein dripping with regret.
He hated himself for being so foolish, for allowing this woman to manipulate his heart and mind. At that moment, he wondered what he ever saw in Kathlyn in the first place that made him abandon Kourtney.
“Killing an innocent child–You think this is some twisted game? I was a fool to think you could ever measure up to Kourtney. She would never do this despicable act. She is a better person than you’ll ever be, and you are nothing compared to her.”
The moment those words left his mouth, he could see the color drain from Kathlyn’s face.
The words hit her like a physical blow, each syllable slicing through whatever semblance of dignity she had left. She bit her bottom lip so hard that she could taste the metallic tang of her own blood.
“You think Kourtney is better than me?” she hissed. “If it weren’t for me, she’d still be pining after you like a lost puppy! I changed her life!”
Kathlyn was indeed very disturbed. She blamed herself for everything. She had stolen Brandon from Kourtney, and now she was the reason Kourtney’s life was better off with Sebastian Woods.
Without her breaking off their relationship, Kourtney would have never met or gotten with a man like that in the first place. She hated herself for committing such an error. All she had done was create a mess that would haunt her forever.
That she was apparently the cause of Kourtney’s life, changing for the better made her stomach churn with regret.
Brandon’s eyes darkened, a storm brewing behind them. “You think you’re some kind of hero for swooping in and stealing me from her? Kathlyn, you’re nothing!”
Kathlyn’s laughter turned manic.
This time, she had really lost it!
“You’re right. I’m nothing. But you know, I made the worst mistake of my life faking this whole pregnancy thing. I really was stupid and made such a bad decision. I should have let Kourtney have a pathetic fool like you.”
The admission cut deeply, even as she spoke it.
Kathlyn’s real plan from the start was indeed to get pregnant with Brandon’s baby, but after months of their secret affair, she still couldn’t conceive. She became desperate and more impatient as his wedding to Kourtney drew closer.
She knew she had to act fast!
The numerous hospital visits and examinations with Brandon and her family were preplanned after she paid and arranged with the doctors.
The sonograms, the blood when she fell down the stairs-everything was fake!
Kathlyn had deceived Brandon, her parents, Kourtney, and her entire family. She fooled everyone.
There was never a child!
Brandon’s eyes narrowed as he took a step closer, the tension in the room thickening. “What are you saying?” he demanded, his voice burning with rage.
With a wild laugh, Kathlyn leaned back on the white, sterile wall, her eyes glinting with madness. “You…You still don’t get it, do you? I was never pregnant with your child. It was all a sham to make you dump Kourtney for me.”
Brandon flinched in surprise.
She could see the confusion and fury battling within him, and it did its part to make her feel a little better. She so much enjoyed the look of hurt in his eyes.
