I started to march away from there, my hands clenched, pondering how to save Gio’s life when, in reality, he wasn’t in any danger. I could feel Marion’s eyes on me, even if he wasn’t physically present.
The children became more enthusiastic about learning, thanks to the new items. Gio quickly won their hearts. Sometimes I found myself in awe when Gio interacted with the kids. I never imagined I’d see Gio engage with children like this, although I did see him taking care of his nephews and niece. I couldn’t help but wonder how he’d take care of his own child. What would Gio do for his child as a father, I wondered? But I shouldn’t be thinking about that right now.
My phone rang. I had two phones: one to talk to Gianna and the other for Marion’s faction. This time, I received a message from Marion.
I discreetly read it and took a deep breath when I saw its contents. The message was from one of Marion’s men, but I had Marion Huff listed as the contact name. Maybe this was a precaution to avoid being tracked.
Text message:
Boss says you should come to the house on Saturday. There’s something you need to discuss.
That was the content of the message from Marion’s contact. I quickly stashed my phone in my bag and surveyed the surroundings. Everything seemed normal except for the sets of eyes staring at me, Gio’s eyes.
I acted irritated again in front of him. Despite my thoughts being a mess, I couldn’t help but wonder why Marion wanted to meet me. Did he suspect my disguise? The first attempt was a success. I knew that because I even fooled Gio, but after that attempt, I hadn’t tried to harm Gio again. Perhaps Marion was thinking I was faking everything. I needed to find out Marion’s hideout and corner him. We needed to trap him so he couldn’t escape again!
“Goodbye, Teacher,” the children left after my teaching for the day. Maybe I wouldn’t go to the shop for now because of all the thoughts racing through my mind. My head was throbbing.
“Is there a problem?” I almost forgot that Gio was still here. I looked at him and stared intently. I couldn’t tell him that I was the one who needed to take action now, and I had a feeling that Marion would show up soon. When that happened, we would corner him. Gio was their current target, and maybe to return the favor, this time I’d be the one protecting him.
“Can you please stop getting so close to me? We’re not friends, so stop acting all friendly,” Gio was acting out of character. I wanted to add that, but I didn’t want him to suspect that I didn’t have amnesia.
It seemed like Gio remembered something from what I said, so I furrowed my brow even more.
“You know, someone once told me that the reason our relationship with my wife changes so quickly is because we don’t have a strong foundation as a couple. They said that in a relationship, it’s not just about love; there are many factors to consider. So now, I want to take this opportunity. How about we be friends, Millie-Tasha? Let’s start from the beginning so we can build a solid relationship.”
I couldn’t regain my composure right away. Gio’s eyes welled up while he gazed at me. He looked into my eyes before his gaze fell to my slightly parted lips.
“I want to start anew, to change and correct the mistakes. I want a fresh start, Millie. Let me prove myself this time.”
“I-I’m not Milliel,” that was a feeble rebuttal, and my voice was trembling. But there was nothing I could do because I didn’t expect the words coming out of Gio’s mouth.
Gosh, I needed to call Gianna, but so far, I still couldn’t reach her. She must be busy with something else.
“Millie or Tasha, you’re my wife, and if you don’t remember me, I will help you recall. I have a lot to tell you, a lot you need to hear from me. I have wrongs I want to make right.”
I gasped as I noticed the welling up of his eyes again. I took a step back because I was nervous.
“I’m not your wife,” slipped out of my mouth. I almost stumbled as I hurriedly moved away from him, causing my sentence to be cut off.
I was about to say more when I felt Gio’s hand grab me and pull me closer to him. I collided with his chest, feeling his hand on my waist, leading me toward his back.
I gasped, and I felt like I was going to catch a fever as I inhaled his familiar scent.
I wanted to push him away, but my body wouldn’t obey!
“Can you feel the familiar heat, Millie? Do you sense this familiar feeling? The matching beats of our hearts and the synchronized rhythm of our breathing, don’t they bring back memories?”
I felt an electrifying jolt down my spine. His words were like a thousand volts of electricity coursing through me.
“Gio-”
“Ahem, did I interrupt something?”
Someone cleared their throat, and I immediately snapped back to reality. I pushed Gio away and averted my gaze from him. I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks.
I glanced to see who had disrupted us because I felt the need to thank them. For a moment, I thought I was about to give in to my desires. It was a close call!
“Gian,” I ran over to my friend as soon as I spotted him. He was the mayor’s son, someone who was often mistaken for having feelings for me, even though we both knew that wasn’t the case. I pretended not to notice Gio, even though my heart was still racing.
“Did I interrupt something?” Gian’s voice was quite manly, probably because there were other people around us besides the two of us. As I said, not many people knew his true identity.
“No, not at all. I’m heading home. I’m done here. Let’s go,” I said as I picked up my bag. I stole one more glance at Gio and saw him studying Gian, as if analyzing him.
Good timing! This would test if he was still extremely jealous.
I left with Gian before my friend’s mouth watered from catching Gio staring at him.
