(NFTMB)Chapter 78
Alessandro
(How Did He Know?)
Against Victoria’s insistence that she was fine, I still took her to the hospital for confirmation and for a thorough checkup on the baby.
Turns out that Victoria was smart enough to reduce the impact of the fall by wedging her hand against the sharp edge of the stairs else who knows what would have happened to our baby.
She’s really going to be the best mother to that child.
I applaud her thoughtfulness. She saved our child.
My thoughts still revolve around what she was doing out of bed at that time and how the hell she was at the bottom of the stairs.
Maybe she might have wanted to get something downstairs. The chilling discovery is actually that there was an unwanted guest in my house last night.
How could somebody sneak into my home without me noticing?
That was the question that made me reach the conclusion that I had a mole in my camp, in my territory and in my home.
All over again.
First was Greg. Now that he is dead someone else has taken over from him.
Someone is trying to fuck with me.
Amara had told me last night before Victoria was pushed that the vase Victoria knocked down unknowingly when she was eavesdropping on me and her conversation in my office wasn’t merely a vase.
There was a microphone inside it.
It’s tiny just like the one that Victoria was given to by Jasmine.
She had seen it inside the cracked pieces of the vase she was cleaning up and brought it to me.
Someone had been smart enough to know not to plant a fucking chip in my office but to hide it in plain sight outside of my office which was still in close range and could still hear everything I say.
The mind puzzling thing was that Sebastian was the one who insisted on leaving that vase there.
I hated it. I found it tacky and out of place.
It’s an ugly fucking vase that he claimed to be antique.
I had my suspicions about everyone lately and I’m starting to form a plan of my own.
I don’t know who to trust except a few other people aside and the people in front of me.
“Franco, did you happen to see anyone around the compound last night?”
“No, capo. I only noticed Mr. Castleford who lives next door came home unusually late last night.”
Bernard Castleford?
Could that fucker really be behind all this?
No way.
If there was anybody harboring such heinous thoughts then it should be me and not him.
I’m the one who wants to kill him. I fantasize about it every time.
“He came home late? That’s all? Maybe he was swamped with work”
“Sorry, capo. I could only see that because last night Sebastian changed our watch positions. I was coming back from taking a piss when I saw him. I wasn’t standing watch at the back house last night. I was positioned at the gate by the fence. Nothing really passed through that area, capo. Not even a ghost”
Why would Sebastian change watch positions without informing me and as well why on the night of Victoria’s attack.
I don’t want to think of Sebastian as the mole or the enemy since I’ve known him for a very long time but some things just appear in your face for you to turn a blind eye and ignore them.
I was really going to have to change strategy and reevaluate and reconstruct my original plan for the charity gala.
I have to step things up.
“Can you get me a detailed report on Sebastian’s movement, actions and whatnot. I want a very detailed report and keep it strictly confidential. If I hear of this outside then be rest assured that I will put a bullet between your eyes.”
“Yes, capo.”
“You may go.”
“Dude, I don’t know what to think anymore but one thing is certain. I’m glad Victoria and the baby are okay. That was scary.” Nicvolo said while rubbing his neck.
“I’ve had my doubts about him for a while now but they were just mere suspicions and there was no evidence so nothing was solid or set in stone.”
“I never really liked the guy”. Niccolo said
“If he actually ends up being the bad guy then we should really kill him. I’m not for violence but a betrayal like that should call for bloodshed.” Valentino said.
“I second that, brother”. Niccolo said.
I already started making different plans for how I wanted the charity gala to go.
I had asked Niccolo and Valentino to change the invites and for the first time, we were going to have a masquerade party. I wanted masks and I wanted people not to recognise people.
Sebastian doesn’t know it yet. Only the three of us.
With the way I see Sebastian now, he’s no brother of mine anymore.
He’s a mole and not to be trusted.
“Amara found a listening device in the vase he dropped at the door to my office.”
“He’s been eavesdropping on your conversations?”
“That is what it is and maybe that was the reason why he immediately went after Victoria because he knew she was the one who broke the vase unknowingly.”
“Wow, he’s a master at manipulations, isn’t he?”.
“Definitely good at what he does.”
“I won’t be surprised if he’s working together with Fabiano and Jasmine.”
“I’ve thought along that line too and I must say that it doesn’t sound so impossible. He’s disloyal”
“But what actually is his problem or reason for turning on you and trying to hurt your baby?”
“Is it because you shot him?”.
“That wasn’t intentional. I was trying to shoot the boy in front of him”
“Woah, this is messed up, isn’t it?”
“No, it’s just getting interesting”. I said downing my drink.
“Do we need to station more guards around the house or maybe relieve him of his duties?”
“No, Valentino.”
“Then we just sit down and wait till he attacks all of us?”
“What the fuck do we do then?”
“We play along, Niccolo”
“Play along? You have got to be fucking kidding me, Alessandro”
“Alessandro, are you sure that’s a good idea?”
“We all are going to get hurt pretty bad”
“No. We’re not. Trust me”
“If you say so”
“I need to see Victoria, she’s in that phase of body shaming herself”.
“That sounds traumatic”
“Shut up, Nic! You don’t know what that feels like”.
“And you do? Have you ever been pregnant before, Valentino?”. I asked out of curiosity.
“That’s disgusting, Alessandro!”
“I’m just asking, big man”. I said before leaving.
The Charity Gala is in a few days time and if I want things to go slow and bump free then things have to go rough first.
Isn’t that right?
“Alessandro, how am I going to wear this dress to the gala? I look fat in it, don’t I?”
“You don’t look fat, Victoria. You’re the perfect weight for someone who is carrying another human being.”
“Then that means I must look like a whale then?”
“Whatever makes you happy, Victoria. Quit being a diva. You look good in that dress. End of discussion”.
The yellow dress I bought her didn’t look bad on her, instead she looked gorgeous in it.
She looked good. Really good.
“Thank you”. She slowly said.
“How do you feel now? Does it still hurt?”
“I feel okay. The baby is fine”
“Good. Now that that’s out of the way, do you care to tell me what you were doing downstairs when you were supposed to be in bed?”
“I couldn’t sleep so I wanted to follow you to where you were going to get some fresh air as well”
Smells like a lie but then I’ll let it slide. For now
“Hmm, I see. Is there anything that you want to tell me, Victoria?”
Her blue eyes widened in fear?
What is she afraid of? I’m not threatening her or screaming at her.
I just asked a question.
“What do you mean?”. She stuttered.
“What I asked is if there was anything about the person that you noticed? Surveillance cameras suffered a glitch at exactly the moment when you were attacked so there is nothing to identify whoever it was with”
“No, there is nothing significant or important that I remember about what the person looked like. I didn’t get to see his face because he wore a ski mask and a red bracelet looking thing that had red lights on it.
It blinked and made a beep sound just before you rushed in and that’s how whoever it is knew to run
away at that time.
I feel like someone informed him that he had to leave.
Alessandro, he knew someone in here. Someone was helping the person who wanted to attack me.”
“I know and I’ll get to the root of this matter. This will not go unpunished. The bracelet thing, can you describe it?”
“Nothing really flashy or eye-catching, just looked like a black string with a glass looking thing that held the blinking light.”
“That’s quite a description, Victoria”.
It wasn’t going to help with anything.
“And also I didn’t say this to you that night because I was still very much in shock and in pain.
I’m only telling you this now because it’s just us here and since you suspect that someone is messing with us it’s best to keep this between us.
I only said that I was about to go back upstairs and he was behind me because I bumped into him and he stopped me before pushing me to the foot of the stairs.
I didn’t tell you or anyone that night that whoever it was that attacked me had tried to kill me by attempting to stab me with a blade.
He had a knife, Alessandro.
I was still shaken up and in severe pain plus I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that someone would try to kill me and my baby.
Fabiano claimed to have been sleeping before your voice woke him up yet he knew that the person had tried to kill me.
How did he know?”
Bloody old bastard.
