Aaron woke up and found her awake and staring up at the ceiling. He pulled closer and kissed her neck, making her tingle and squirm in bed. He took advantage and wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her against himself and grinding against her. “You are awake early.”
“Hmm,” she moaned, and her lashes fluttered weakly. “Just thinking.”
“About what, the night we just had?” he asked.
She giggled. “That too; I didn’t know the reverse could feel better.”
He grinned mischievously. “There are a lot of things we don’t know how good they are until we try them out for ourselves.”
“True.” She said this and wandered into silence.
“What are you thinking about now?” he asked, kissing her shoulders.
“I didn’t tell you everything that I found out at Davine’s residence yesterday.”
He pulled himself up to sit down and look at her. “Really? What else did you leave out?”
She pulled herself up to sit up as well. “The Crimson Moon Pack is out searching for weaknesses among sages; they are not relenting in their quest for revenge. Hence their attack on Davine.”
“Well, they will not find any.” He spoke with assurance.
She stayed silent, not giving any support to what he just said.
He tilted her chin, forcing her to look at him. “They will not find any weakness, will they?”
“Davine believes the moon goddess is too perfect to create an all-powerful creature with no form of weakness. And the pack believes a watcher would know of those weaknesses; Davine doesn’t know because he’s not a watcher,” she answered, and she glanced up at him. “Quincy is a watcher, and he might know. I believe that with the right persuasion, he will reveal what it is.”
Aaron wrapped his arms around her; words were failing, but this act spoke all the comforting words he couldn’t utter. He was always here for her. And he would never leave.
They laid back in bed, and though they didn’t make love, the intimacy of their embrace and shared bond was enough to comfort her. It made her forget all the troubles ahead.
“Next week is exam week, and I do not want to go.”
“Then don’t go,” he said, leaning in and kissing her forehead.
They wandered into silence again. Her mind moved to the plans of the Crimson Moon Pack to find her weakness. That was one pack, and who knew what the others were planning? This was the time when Ivan’s wisdom and gift would have been useful, but he has been different since the death of Xoe. He wasn’t the most reliable one now.
“You’re thinking too much.”
“I don’t know what is coming, but I also fear it.” She admitted, “The other packs are certainly plotting their revenge and possible attack. I am a threat to the natural order of things and the existence of all supernatural creatures. They would want to take me out at all costs. Since they couldn’t go through Davine, they will try another way.”
“Do not think about it.” He tilted her chin up so that their gazes locked. “I know you’re afraid, but I am not going to let anything happen to you. They will have to go through me.” He vowed before taking her lips between his.
A small knock came on the door, and they pulled away. “Who is there?” Aaron demanded.
“It’s Miguel, Alpha.” A quick response came through.
Aaron rose, grabbed his clothes on the floor, put them on, and walked to the door. He opened it and raised a brow at Miguel. “What do you want?”
Zera also rose from the bed, got dressed, and approached the door as well.
“You have someone here to see you.” He answered.
“Who?” Aaron demanded.
“Alpha Viktor of the Crimson Moon Pack,” he said.
Aaron turned to Zera, who looked confused. “What does he want?” she asked Miguel, who looked almost as clueless as they were.
“I don’t know, but Ivan has already set up a barrier restricting further entrance, but he insists he must speak to the alpha.” He replied.
Aaron walked out of the room, and Zera and Miguel followed him, hurrying up to keep up with his long legs and wide pace.
He arrived outside and found a few pack members, including George and Maxwell, the lead betas. Ivan stood there in the front, and though the shield he placed couldn’t be seen with the physical eyes, Alpha Viktor couldn’t break out of it. He also seemed to have stopped trying and was just waiting for Aaron’s arrival.
He didn’t look to be in the best of shape himself; he had a deep cut on his cheek, and though it had healed up, the blood stain remained, and he didn’t care to wipe it off. His red polo was also torn and had a dried bloodstain on it.
“What are you doing here? Did I not tell you you’re not welcome unless you send a formal invitation ahead?” Aaron demanded, storming towards Viktor.
“Formality flies out of the window when life and death are involved.” He answered, and he didn’t look like someone playing with words.
“You attacked Davine, and for what? To kill my wife?” Aaron snarled and grabbed Viktor by the throat. “Tell me why I shouldn’t snuff the pathetic little life you have in your lungs away.”
“You can kill me, but you will never get to hear what I came to tell you.” He barely got the words out with how thin his voice had gone. He was only alive because he was still an alpha.
“Well, that sounds like something I can live with.” He said and tightened his grip around his neck, and he choked.
“Aaron,” Zera called out, not wanting the death of the alpha of the crimson moon despite everything. He didn’t look like someone who kept anything around him under control. Death would be a peaceful escape.
“Don’t tell me you want this man to live after what he has done.” Aaron sounds a bit disappointed now.
“It isn’t mercy, Aaron; there seems to be more happening than we know of.” She answered.
Aaron groaned and released his hands from around Viktor’s neck. He fell to the ground, choking and groaning in pain.
“No, kill me!” he cried desperately. “I have nothing else to live for, anyway. My pack is gone, and so is my family and almost everyone I ever cared about.” The man who he came with ran over to him and placed his hands on him for comfort.
“You will get the death you so plead for, but it won’t be today. Why are you here?” Aaron demanded.
It took him a while to regain himself, but he did and forced himself onto his feet. “Because I need your help.”
