Where are they?

I slept off, with their fingers on my hair, running through it as they told me just how wonderful they thought I was. It was a calming time, and I slept off to the peaceful hum of their lips, only to wake up alone on the bed. I sat up, startled, as I glanced around the empty room. The side of the bed they lay on last night had gotten cold, meaning they left a long time ago.
Puzzled, I got up from the bed and walked into the bathroom to get ready for the day. I would have left my room like this had we been back at their house. This was their palace not their home on Earth. The chances of running into a guard out there were high. I couldn’t do anything to jeopardize my place here.
After a quick bath, I got ready for the day. I wore a very loose gown and had my hair up in a messy bun, not caring how I looked. I wasn’t meeting my people today. Aside from a few guards and the maids, there would be no one meeting me today, which was why I didn’t bother with dressing up.
With my hasty appearance, I left my room and headed towards their receiving room. Chrys and Chris were sitting on a sofa, going through the colour books Fred got when he returned to Earth. The moment I stepped in, they lifted their gazes at me.
“Mum!” Chrys broke away from Chris and ran over to me, hugging me tight. She obviously missed me.
“How are you, darling?” I peered down at her, running my hands through the small hair I could reach. I would have squatted, but couldn’t do that with my pregnancy.
“Fine!” she grinned, breaking away from the hug. She grabbed my hand and led me over to where Chris sat. “Mummy, see!” She pointed at the colour book.
“Wow. This is beautiful.” I sat next to Chris and picked up the colour book from her. Chrys naturally sat next to me, leaning on my arms as she held me tight as if I might disappear should she not hold me tight.
“So….” Chris cleared her throat. “Do you have anything to tell me?” She pursed her lips.
“What to tell you?” I frowned at that, raking through my mind until I got exactly what she was talking about. “Oh. That’s true. I didn’t see my mates in the room. Where did they go to? Do you know?”
I would have forgotten about my mates had she not reminded me of it. Seeing Chrys made me forget why I even left my room in the first place.
“Though that’s not what I was talking about, they went on a trip to the werewolf kingdom.”
“A trip? Why didn’t they tell me?!” I dropped the colour book, only to realize my mistake when Chrys gasped. Picking it back, I returned my focus to Chris. “Why did they leave without me?! Didn’t they promise to take me?”
Those damned bastards! Wait until I get my hands on them. I will strangle them to death! Fuming, I turned the pages of the book, waiting for Chris.
If I had known they planned to take off when I sleep, I wouldn’t have fucking slept with them. They dared to play such a dirt trick on me?!
“Relax. They only went because of an emergency. Taking you there will be disastrous.”
“What kind of emergency?” I demanded, my voice low. “Why didn’t I know of it? Why leave when they promised to take me with them whenever they have emergencies?”
She hesitated, her gaze unsure. She looked as if she wanted to be anywhere but here at the moment, answering my questions. It seemed like I was interrogating her when all I wanted was to know why my mates left without me. It wasn’t fair at all!
“I don’t know the details. All I heard was an uproar. It seemed some werewolves were still against your union. You know, the only ones that came over were the heads. The few who weren’t in attendance refused to acknowledge you.”
“Why didn’t they wake me?” I frowned, passing the book to a restless Chrys. “Here you have it, darling. Just flip it this way.”
“Okay, mummy!”
Chris’s eyes locked onto mine. “They didn’t want to disturb you. You needed rest, and they knew you’d worry.” She reached out and placed a hand over mine. “Relax, they will be back before you know it. I don’t think the problem would escalate. The men only need an explanation, nothing more.”
“Is that all?” I pressed, my gaze lingering on her face, searching for more. I wanted to believe her, to think my mates only left to sort some things out, but there was this nagging feeling I had about it.
Chris nodded. “That’s all. They’ll be back soon.”
“And Aunt Esmeralda?”
“She said she will visit you this afternoon.”
“Oh.” Nodding, I relaxed on the couch when all I wished to do was seek my mates out, to demand why they left me behind, to sort their pack’s business. I didn’t do that, though. With Chris here, it would be impossible to do that. I bet that was why my mates left her here, to keep an eye on me.
“So? Are you going to tell me the good news or not?” Pursing her lips, she folded her arms, lifting an eyebrow at me. “You don’t intend to keep the secret from me forever, do you?”
I frowned, not understanding what she was talking about. However, when I noticed her gaze on my hand, I realized what she was speaking about. I’d forgotten how I planned to make her jealous.
“Oh, this?” I lifted my hand, grinning. “That’s a -”
A guard rushed in, panting, as he knelt in front of me. He placed his right hand across his chest and bowed. “My queen.”
“What’s wrong?” I sat up, worried. Aside from the few times the guards by the gates had come over to see my mates, none of them had sorted me out like this.
“There’s a man by the bridge, asking to meet you.”
