Two months, and I think I have gotten infected by them. It was the end of our contract, and I knew we had to part ways. Even though I didn’t want to leave, wishing they would ask me to stay with them, I was aware I couldn’t keep up with the toxic relationship anymore. I couldn’t even tell what was right anymore. My body had gotten so used to them that I doubted I would ever be normal.
“What’s wrong?” Blue lifted an eyebrow as he watched me.
I had just stepped into their sitting room, staring at them as if trying to commit their images to my head.
After their interview, I got the position I had always coveted. The director didn’t even think twice about that. Not only did I get the title of the best journalist, but they promoted me, much to the dismay of Imelda and her supporters.
It was like a dream come true, and I had been working hard to keep it. Though none of the assignments I got was like those of the Christophos brothers, I was able to scale through them.
“Bunny?” Fred called my attention back to them. “Are you okay? Why are you staring without saying a word?”
“Oh.” Blinking, I forced a smile as I walked over to the couch opposite theirs. “I’m good.”
They exchanged looks before focusing on me. “What do you mean, you are okay? You don’t look like you are.”
“I’m great.” Sighing, I massaged the back of my neck. “It has been busy at work these days. I hardly have enough time to rest like normal. Being the best journalist isn’t as glamorous as it sounds. I have to keep my position from those who are coveting it. It’s difficult.”
“Didn’t you say you wanted the glory? Tired?” Blue smirked, looking amused. “Humans think wealth and fame are the important things to get, not knowing there were prices to pay for it.”
“True.” Nodding, I ignored his use of ‘humans’ to pass his message across. This wasn’t the first time he had spoken something like this.
“So? Why are you here? If memory serves me right, you said you wouldn’t come tonight. Changed your mind? Missed us too much to spend a day apart?” He teased, smirking.
I rolled my eyes at that, sitting up. “That’s why I’m here.” I linked my fingers, staring at them. My gaze wandered from Blue to Fred. “It has been two months since we got together,” I started, hoping they would realize what I was trying to say without making me say it outrightly.
“Has it been that long?” Blue placed his hand under his jaw, glancing towards Fred, who shook his head, showing he didn’t even know it had been that long.
Sighing, I glared at them, trying to know if they were faking not knowing what I was saying. Their expressions were as innocent as those of children.
“Yeah. It has been.” I ran my hand through my hair, looking helplessly at them. “Do you realize what it means?”
I figured I would be the one to tell them about it since they looked like they couldn’t figure it out alone.
“What does it mean? That we have stayed together for a long time?” Fred smirked, raising his brows at me.
“The contract we signed stated I only have to be with you guys for two months. Today makes it two months. So, this is the -”
“You want to leave?” Blue interrupted, narrowing his eyes at me. “Are you tired of us that you wish to leave?” He looked wounded, his expression making it seem like I was bullying him when all I was doing was telling them about the contract we all signed.
“That was the terms of the contract, wasn’t it? I get to leave after the expiration of the two months, which is today. I’m here for it. We can tear the contract since -”
“So you want to quit?” Blue rose from the couch and approached me, his eyes dark and his face expressionless. I couldn’t tell what was going through his mind as he stalked towards me, but I could identify it wasn’t something good if he sounded like he would snap my head off should I so much as blink.
Gulping, I looked towards Fred, who had the same expression on his face. They looked like lions woken up from their slumber by annoying pests.
“I don’t want to leave. This is the agreement we had, that I would be free after two months, isn’t it? You have gotten what you want, and I have gotten mine.”
Blue smiled, seeming like a predator showing his teeth before pouncing on a prey. I could only watch, my heart hammering hard against my chest as I wondered what they were about to do.
“Does that mean you will still be with us even after we cancel the agreement? Will you stay back and be our bunny? The cute little pet you have been for the past two months?” Blue demanded, still walking towards me, taking a step with each word spoken.
Pet?
That’s all I was to them. They didn’t see me as anything but that. The feelings I thought we shared were just my imagination. To them, I was merely a woman who was always ready to spread my legs whenever they asked me to. I was nothing more than that to them.
What was the use of staying back when I would always be a pet to them? Does that even make any sense?
“No, I won’t.”
His eyes change colours at my words. I tried to help myself. It was the effect of the light, but it was too real to be considered that.
Rising from the couch, I took a step back, my eyes darting around. My heart hammered against my rib cage.
“You want to leave us?” His voice went down an octave, dark and dangerous. “Do you think we will let you quit? Just like that?”
