FRED
We watched as she left before turning back into the house. Blue almost kicked the door down, and I knew he was frustrated. I was too. We were just getting to the good part with our Bunny when the guard showed up and messed with everything.
He was kneeling in the sitting room when we walked in. Bella didn’t see him because of the body mask he had on. Had she seen him, I doubt she would have left without demanding an explanation.
“My kings.” He bowed his head to the floor the moment we stepped in. “I apologize for interrupting you, but this is urgent.”
We strode over to our couch and sat on it, matching scowls directed at the man who had the worst timing in the entire universe.
“Speak up. What’s the matter?” Blue questioned, his voice taking an edge.
Had he not been the border guard, we wouldn’t have given him the time of the day. We only sent Bella home because we realized his coming wasn’t for mere pleasantries.
“Two rogues escaped from the prison of the dark and -”
“Is that of any concern to us? What of the guards by the burning sea? How could they let the rogues escape?!” I growled, hitting my fist on the table, which shattered at the impact.
Blue didn’t flinch, but the guard kneeling in front of us looked like he was just moments from burrowing into the ground in fear.
“We… They weren’t alerted to it. The rogues slipped past us… They… They are in the human world.”
“What?!” Blue uncrossed his legs, sitting up. “What the hell did you just say? How did they bypass the security in Lyxana? What of the guards in the dark forest? How did they slip past you?!” He growled, partially shifting. His claws elongated as hair rippled from his arms.
I had to calm him down, patting his back as I focused on the guard. “How did it happen?”
He wiped the sweat off his brows, shaking as he looked between us. “I apologize for my incompetence, my kings!” He bowed, stretching his hands in front of him with his forehead to the ground. “This servant needs to be punished for my negligence.”
“There’s no doubt about that. We will discuss your punishment later. But for now, there’s a pressing issue.”
Two werewolves out in the human world weren’t something that could be overlooked, especially when they were rogues. If there was one thing we maintained, it was the secret of our world. It would be disastrous if humans got to know about our existence, especially those of the werewolves.
As their kings, it was our duty to make certain they never left the kingdom. That was why we had enough security in the kingdom, but it seemed they had gone lax since the last time we visited.
“Where are they?” Blue asked, his eyes blazing with fury.
I knew the guard would have long been a goner had I not been there. I was the one holding my brother from harming him.
“Towards the central city. I can’t tell the exact location because they removed the chips from them. They -”
“Good. More work to do.” Scowling, I strode towards the door, dragging my brother with me. “Return to your post and await your punishment. If I’m you, I will seek forgiveness from the moon goddess,” I threw over my shoulder as we walked out of the house.
Who would have thought that the second time we would leave the house would be because of rogues?
We didn’t bother with our car, knowing we were faster. As hybrids, we possessed both the powers of Lycans and vampires. Our parents’ union was considered a taboo in our kingdom. Had my father not been powerful enough, he would have lost our mom earlier because no one supported his decision to marry a vampire.
We were the last of the vampire bloodline. Our mother was the last survivor and, with her gone, we became the last vampires to walk the Earth.
Soon, we will be the last Lycans. Should our ‘dear’ old uncle decide to give up the ghost, that is.
Jumping over our fence, we raced through the night, letting our noses do the jobs. Running through the busy streets reminded me of the time we lived in our kingdom, long before we joined the human world.
It had been a long time since we ran this much, and I had forgotten the thrill that came with it, the wholesome feeling we get while racing.
‘They are close by. Though their scent is weak, I can still feel it.’
Blue said through our mind link.
‘Roger that’
It turned out that they had long left the busy city for the forest. We raced through the streets, to the forest, following their scents until we got close. We slowed to a walk, masking our scents, so they wouldn’t hear our approach.
I exchanged looks with Blue, who nodded, motioning for me to walk forward. The moon was high in the sky. In this part of the city, you could feel the crisp night air. It was a far cry from the city, with its bustling cars, almost like the property we built our house on.
Crickets chirped as we walked deeper into the wood, careful not to make a noise. Our eyes scanned the entire place. Though it was night, we could see as if it were day.
Blue marched forward, picking up the pace the nearer we drew to the rogues. A scream tore through the air the moment we got close, the sound alerting us to what was going on.
The woman screamed again, this time followed by another whimper from one, who sounded like her mouth was gagged. Peals of laughter accompanied the scream, sounds that undoubtedly came from the men we were coming for.
Wasting no time, we raced towards them, coming across a scene we least expected, at least not for escaped prisoners. The guards said two convicts slipped away, but there were over ten werewolves taking part in an orgy with unwilling human females.
