I found myself in Gio’s office after everything we had done there. Gio’s desk was in disarray, with things strewn all over it, and even the floor had some broken objects. I was still pondering how he would explain this mess to the cleaning staff when I heard a noise outside the door.
I leaned against his chest, feeling his warmth, while my breathing slowly returned to normal. I glanced to the side and saw a CCTV camera. I had completely forgotten about the presence of security cameras in the room.
“G-Gio, th-there’s a CCTV camera here… We’ve been caught,” I realized, a sinking feeling in my stomach. I was already contemplating burying myself in the ground at the mere thought of someone witnessing our actions.
“I know. I am the one who’s controlling them. Don’t worry,” he reassured me, and a wave of relief washed over me. “Do you think I would let anyone see your body or how things got heated between us? They’ll have to die first.” I allowed myself to relax against him.
Our clothes were now disheveled, and our hair was in disarray. I was still too exhausted to move.
“When did your father talk to you about becoming the CEO? Considering how quickly he passed on the position to you, I assume it’s been a while?” I asked, and met his gaze. I could still see his usual icy expression. I used to be terrified when I saw it, but with everything that had happened between us, I had learned to handle it. Gio was heartless, yes, when it came to other people. Perhaps those he disliked, saw as threats, or considered enemies. But with me, not to make assumptions, he treated me differently.
I wouldn’t let my thoughts wander into the possibility of him having feelings for me or harboring emotions. It seemed unlikely because this man didn’t even comprehend those sentiments. Nevertheless, I was content. What mattered to me was how he regarded me and how safe I felt when Gio was around. He could calm the storm of emotions within me, much like how Poseidon quiets the ocean.
“One of the conditions he set before our marriage was that I would run the company once I became your spouse,”
I nodded. At that moment, we were financially strained due to a bad investment made by my father. He wanted me to marry quickly, so someone could take over the struggling company. It was a typical marriage of convenience. However, even the Huff family, where I was supposed to be married off, suffered losses. My father wouldn’t allow me to marry someone he considered an additional liability, so he found Gio.
“Was your parents’ marriage arranged as well?” I asked even though I had a strong feeling it wasn’t. Mommy had mentioned some things about her and Dad, and it was clear that they hadn’t been arranged. Unlike my marriage to Gio, they married because they loved each other.
“No,” was his brief reply, and that was the end of it. It felt like we were back to the pattern of one question and one answer. “My dad loves my mom, so they got married.” I thought he might revert to one-word responses again.
I closed my eyes and just let myself feel his presence. I’m really falling for him, but expressing my feelings to him is not an option. I don’t want him to pull away suddenly if he finds out that I have feelings for him. The thought saddened me. Based on the relationships I’ve observed, everyone seems happy at first, but it all changes when one person confesses their feelings, and the other person leaves. That’s how most of my friends’ relationships have played out.
We’re married again, but I don’t want any major obstacles to come between us this time. For now, I’ll keep my feelings to myself.
When I remembered that I needed to return to work, I sat up. Gio didn’t remove his hand from my stomach, even though I tried to stand.
“I should get back to work,” I told him. It seemed like he had a lot to do. His secretary came here earlier, and it looked like they had some matters to discuss.
Gio didn’t release me immediately. I had to give him a look before he let me go. I fixed myself and used his private powder room to freshen up. When I came out, I saw Gio still gazing at me.
“Are you sure you want to go outside and go back to work? Someone will probably notice that we just had sex, Millie.”
I froze in my tracks at his words, my face showing surprise. The blood rushed to my cheeks, warming them.
“Gio!” I scolded him, feeling embarrassed by what he said, while he seemed nonchalant about it. I glared at him and left his office. I don’t know why, but when someone looks at me, I feel guilty. Even if they don’t know what happened, I feel like they can see it on my face that I had sex with Gio in his office.
Why did Gio have to say those words to me? Sometimes I can’t figure out if I prefer him to be quiet or talkative.
The days passed with relative calm in our lives with Gio. No one had attempted to harm me again. Security around me had increased, and I felt safer, especially when I went home since Gio often accompanied me.
Today, I had lunch in the cafeteria with my coworkers. They asked me if my husband wasn’t joining me, as there were times when I had lunch with Gio in his office or in the office pantry. Sometimes, it wasn’t just food we shared; we shared intimate moments.
I blushed at the thought. Why did I think of such explicit things during our lunch break?
“Gio’s not here today; he’s at Locatelli Corp,” I replied, quickly changing the subject.
Many women are trying their luck with my husband, even though they know he’s already married. I can’t blame them because Gio can leave anyone speechless and wide-eyed. The problem is, I can’t help but feel annoyed and jealous. Some coworkers, mostly from other departments, also ask me where Gio is and about my husband. I just give them disapproving looks and ignore them. Don’t they have any respect for a marriage?
I was waiting in line to buy some food. I could assert my importance, but I knew everyone was hungry, so I didn’t use that privilege. I’ve been noticing some men who seem to be from other departments staring at me. Maybe they’re not used to seeing me. They don’t see me often, which might be the reason.
“Who’s that?” I overheard one of them asking.
“It’s Ma’am Millie,” a guy answered. I could see them from the corner of my eye, but I chose to act as if I didn’t notice them.
“She’s beautiful! Should I make a move?”
I furrowed my brow at his comment. I could hear them, and my colleagues could probably hear them too.
“Don’t, she’s the CEO’s wife! You really are something; you’ve just started, and you’re already looking for trouble.”
The guy he was talking to laughed. That makes sense! He’s new here, so he probably didn’t know I was married. I hope he stops now.
“Come on, many married couples end up separating.”
