Dante’s POV
I was horrified. How did this happen? When did this…
It was like I was set free from a spell and it slowly began to come back to me.
That evening I was drunk. She came into my office. I kissed her and fucked her.
I covered my face in anger as the scenario played in my head again.
Fuck!
I had thought that I could escape it. That that night was just a lucky night like all the other times that I had fucked her.
I was bewildered. I stole a glance at Erica and all she did was look at me in shock.
She slowly lowered herself back to her chair and sat, looking into empty space.
It suddenly dawned on me that she was bothered. I took a deep breath and I could feel the betrayal her wolf felt.
I bit my lower lips angrily. My hands were quivering as I struggled not to slam my palm down on the table.
Laura had a satisfied smirk on her face and had her hands folded across her chest.
“I am waiting for an answer, Dante. Aren’t you going to say anything?”
I was about to say something but I soon saw Erica packing her back.
My heart skipped a beat.
No. Where was she going? What was she doing?
“Erica…”
“I think I chose a bad time for this meeting. Maybe we can talk some other time. I…I see that you are preoccupied.”
She took her eyes off me and stuffed the book in her bag. Her face seemed pale and her eyes had a sadness in them, like they were glistening with tears.
Laura looked at her in satisfaction as she walked to the door.
Before she could reach the handle, the door flung open and Javier came in, almost bumping into her.
“Sorry, I took so much…”
“Let’s go, Javier.”
Those were the only words that she said to him before they disappeared from the conference room, leaving me alone with Laura.
“Good riddance.”
She turned to me with a lopsided grin on her face.
My green eyes narrowed on her and I could feel a deep rumbling in my throat.
“What is the meaning of this, Laura?!”
Her smirk disappeared and she looked livid.
“Fuck you, Dante! Did you think that all those hot nights in bed together wouldn’t lead to this? Are you kidding me?”
I was exasperated. I left my position near my seat and paced angrily around the room. My hand ruffled my hair and my eyes.
Wait!
I was like with an awakening and I marched back to her.
“When did you find out that you were pregnant?”
Her eyebrow rose and her mouth twisted.
“This morning. Why?”
“We are going for a pregnancy and DNA test. I want another pregnancy test done and if you are pregnant, I want a DNA test to confirm that it is actually mine.”
“What!”
Her eyes flung open.
Aha! The first sign of foul play.
She stared at me with hate and took a step back.
“What is your problem, Dante? You are the only guy that I have slept with. I assure you that the baby is yours and that I am pregnant.”
I felt the scales tip in my favour and it was now my turn to fold my hands across my chest.
“If it really is mine, then I don’t see why you should be afraid of a DNA and pregnancy test. I can ask for The maid to buy another test kit and you can do the test again and then we can go to the hospital.”
Her mouth was wide open and her eyes filled with so much anger and hate.
“Are you trying to call me a liar? Are you trying to deny our child, your child?”
I was silent. Her attitude had given me more reason not to worry.
A part of me felt that since she was reluctant, she was obviously not telling…
“Fine.”
My eyes perked up and my eyes settled on her.
“Excuse me.”
She snarled.
“I said, fine. I’ll do the pregnancy test again and I’ll call a doctor for the DNA test.”
My heart skipped a beat and I grew even more suspicious. Didn’t she just kick against it a few minutes ago?
“I thought you were against it.”
“I’m against being called a liar, Dante! I have been with you for six fucking years. We have fucked and you fucked me a few weeks ago too. I was fertile and now we have a baby. It’s time you took some responsibility.”
I glared at her. What was she doing?
She pulled out a chair and plopped herself in it.
“I’m waiting. Get the maid and test kit. I’m not going anywhere.”
I was stunned and was slowly filled with fear. I pressed a button on my desk and spoke over the intercom.
“I need a maid in here…”
************************************
Laura slipped into the bathroom and came out with the pen-like test kit.
The tip was wet and we waited for a result.
My heart was pounding in my chest. I could barely breathe but I maintained my composure.
The two red lines appeared on the kit and I felt my heart shattered inside of me.
Laura had a smirk on her face and the maid that had bought the test backed out of the room as soon as she saw my expression.
I was alone and Laura was looking at me with a smug look on her face.
“Do you believe me now, Dante? Am I still a liar?”
I was silent. Anger and disbelief were brewing a violent cocktail inside of me.
“Dante, say…”
“Get out!”
I barked at her and she scurried off, but not before giving me one last stare.
I sat down with my head in my hands.
I couldn’t believe it. Laura was pregnant.
The weight of reality felt unusually heavy.
If she was sure about the pregnancy, then she was definitely sure about its paternity.
She was carrying…my child.
