“Okay.”
Watching the two leave, Rosalind took out her room card to open the door to her own room.
Lion followed her inside, his gaze sweeping over her, as if trying to see right through her.
“So you just got drunk and stayed at another hotel for the night?”
Rosalind frowned and poured herself a glass of warm water to soothe her stomach discomfort.
“What else?”
“The people from Zenith didn’t do anything else?”
“I guess not, just drinking.”
Rosalind knew nothing; she had completely blacked out that part of the night.
So, in her view, it was just her low tolerance for alcohol, and she was actually worried that this might have compromised her ability to accompany the boss of Zenith properly, potentially jeopardizing their collaboration.
“Rosalind, they must have spiked your drink,” Lion finally spilled the beans.
He wanted to know how the effects of the drug had been countered.
“Spiked?”
“Yes! If you don’t believe me, we can go get a blood test right now. It should still show up.”
Rosalind’s mind went blank as she tried hard to remember, but couldn’t come up with anything.
However, she was certain that the people from Zenith hadn’t succeeded.
“Don’t make a big deal out of it. I’m standing here all right, aren’t I?” Rosalind drank the water, then quickly added, “Did the people from Zenith admit to it?”
“They wouldn’t dare!”
“Then we can use this as leverage to make them concede. The contract isn’t signed the way they want, is it?”
Rosalind wasn’t unconcerned about her own innocence; mainly, they hadn’t succeeded, so she had nothing to fear.
Such leverage was absolutely deadly; Mr. Sanderson from Zenith couldn’t possibly risk his reputation and his company.
“Rosalind! Can you stop thinking about work for once?!” Lion was nearly driven mad by her.
“These people harbored ill intentions towards you, you should be thinking about how to make them pay!”
“We can set the terms of the cooperation however we want, isn’t that Zenith’s price to pay?” Rosalind saw his urgency and instead comforted him, “I’m sure I was taken away by a friend, and my friend is very reliable.”
“What about the effects of the drug then?” Lion no longer beat around the bush and asked directly.
That startled Rosalind.
She hadn’t thought about that until now.
But…
It couldn’t have been the driver who cured her, could it? Surely not?
Seeing Rosalind’s face flicker between expressions, Lion stepped forward, grabbing her wrist.
“Come on, I’ll take you to the hospital. Let’s get a blood test and see if anyone touched you last night!”
Rosalind instinctively followed him a few steps, then suddenly shook off his hand.
“I’m not going, you’re overthinking it. No one touched me! I drank way too much last night, surely the alcohol overwhelmed the drugs!”
She was unwilling to consider if the driver really…
“Do you trust your friend that much?”
“Yes! I definitely trust him.”
Lion clenched his teeth, “Fine, then I have nothing more to say, but you can forget about the collaboration with Zenith.”
“Why?”
“There’s no longer a Zenith to talk about.”
What more was there to discuss about collaboration?
Rosalind took it as if he was joking.
“Stop joking, I’m talking about serious stuff.”
“I’m being serious too. Zenith has gone bankrupt as of this morning. Their stock has plummeted to rock bottom, shareholders are dumping shares, and the banks have already sued them, demanding early repayment. Mr. Sanderson’s people have vanished.”
