127.
Vera’s POV.
“Oww…” I whoosh a breath, watching the passersby while I tap my feet continuously on the asphalt.
Checking the time again, I figure out five minutes have gone by and Evelyn still isn’t here.
“What are you still doing, Evelyn?” I mutter, thumbing through my phone to call her again.
This dizziness has gone out of hand too. My vision suddenly blurred while I was in the cafe. I just came there to relax this morning but the dizziness struck with force.
That’s when I decided to head to the hospital. Evelyn’s advice a while back was perfect but my stubborn self couldn’t admit to it.
I didn’t even check a pregnancy kit. I prefer going to the hospital to be completely certain.
That’s why I called Evelyn to help me with my purse.
I sigh and scroll a hand through my hair. I’m getting worked up but I’ll get a solution soon.
“Vee?” A tiny voice calls out to me and I turn my back and see Evelyn smiling from across the building I’m perched on.
“Get over here, Eve!” I wave her over and she watches the moving cars before crossing to my side.
“Sorry, I delayed. The valet kept asking me questions…”
“It’s okay, it’s okay.” I cut her off, looking down at the purse. “Thanks for coming anyway.” I voice my appreciation, taking the black fine leather purse from her.
Looking inside, I see she stashed five thousand dollar notes inside and I peek up back at her.
“So? To the hospital now?” She asks expectantly.
“Yeah. I should have gone earlier.” I mutter.
Evelyn stares at me with a pointed look. Arching my brows, I ask. “What?”
“Nothing. It’s just. You’re adding more weight as the day goes on.”
“Evelyn! Remind me why you’re still a virgin? Cause you talk like you’ve given birth to like seven kids.”
“Oh, don’t get me started on that. Besides, I was practically pregnant along with my mother when she was still conceiving…” she prattles.
I’m already veering, wanting to go away but her question makes me pause.
“Mind if I join you?”
“Sure you can.”
And just like that, Evelyn and I treaded to the nearby hospital.
I still don’t know what I’ll do if this turns out to be true. Will David be receptive to the idea of having a child…with me?
Ugh!
Am I really ready to be a mother?
Even before the thought can be cemented in my mind, my heart is already jerking in delight and happiness.
Knowing that the baby growing inside belongs to David, makes my love for this fetus bloom more.
I’ll love whatever kids I make with him, just as I love the man himself.
Yeah. I can’t help thinking this is a baby made out of our love for each other.
My love for him and his for mine.
Since that night in front of the fountain, David and I haven’t escaped each other’s arms.
We sleep together, eat, and bathe together.
He even reads me a bedtime story as if I’m a baby.
Invisible smile creeps up my lips when I remember the story he read last night.
It was a romance novel. All the while he read, there were no kisses or sex between the main character. Just hugs. And David was completely comfortable reading it.
That lasted until the intense kissing scene came. My God, the man literally blushed.
I was lying in between his legs, and my head rested on his chest. But that moment he paused at the kissing scene, I raised my head and saw the man blushing.
“What’s wrong? Keep reading…” I told him but he shook his head.
“Makes me uncomfortable, baby.” He revealed.
“Why?” I asked him with a small smile.
“‘Cause it’s making me have a boner. You sure I can finish this book tonight, baby?”
“Yes, you can,” I stated, still laughing.
“No, I can’t. I’m already hard.” He said and slammed the book shut.
“No, David! I still want to know what happens to the main characters!” I barked but he was already leaning in.
“I’m sure they kissed and made love like we’re about to.” He chirped, holding my face between my palms.
I was still sore from our lovemaking in the shower but that insatiable man was already hard.
“We just came out of the shower two hours ago…”
“Uh-huh..” He nodded.
“And you still want to do another round?”
“Mmm…” He nodded again. Before I could pour more words, he took my lips into his and began giving me a thorough arousing kiss
I tried to protest but my arousal betrayed me.
“Can’t blame me for wanting my woman a lot, can you?” He chirped.
And that was how he justified mounting on me like a lion and rutting into me till midnight.
Remembering that makes me smile. The tiredness is one of the reasons I came to the cafe to chill.
We’re still keeping our relationship a secret. But I don’t know how long it’ll last again if this pregnancy turns out to be true.
I mean, he can’t deny it, right?
Even if he does, when the baby grows up and takes his looks the media will find out.
The trickle of fear coils my spine. I’m dreading how he’ll take the news.
Knowing David. I don’t think he’s ready to have children. Maybe that’s why he didn’t have any with his ex-wives.
“What’s going on through that head of yours?” Evelyn’s voice rattles through my thoughts.
“Nothing.” I chirp, snapping my gaze away.
“It’s not nothing, Vera.” She says. “You thinking about the baby’s father?”
That’s it, I sigh. Maybe I should confide in her a little?
“I don’t know how he’ll take the news.” I sigh.
“If he loves you, you sure will.”
“You think so?” I ask expectantly.
Evelyn pauses and puts her hand on my arm, making me stop too.
“Men love it when their woman reveals such good news to them. I don’t know who the baby’s father is but whenever you’re on call with that man, I can feel the love you two have for each other. It’s genuine. It’s real. Trust me, Vera, he’ll love the baby you made with him.”
My eyes blur with tears at Evelyn’s words and I fling my hands around her, hugging her.
“Thanks so much, Eve. You’re one hell of a big sister I didn’t have.”
“You’re welcome, Vera. Don’t be scared. Let your love for each other be your strength.”
I bite my lip and nod my head at her words.
I didn’t know how much I needed those reassurances until now.
After that, we hold hands and moved into the hospital.
We tread to the lab section and wait for our turn.
**Hours Later***
“Ms. Vera?” The doctor calls out my name and I spring to my feet, panting.
“Yes, doc?”
“Please come in.”
I take a look at Evelyn before walking into the doctor’s office.
Taking a seat, the young doctor begins breaking the news.
“Congratulations, Ms. Vera. You’re seven weeks pregnant.”
I clutch my hand over my mouth as I gasp.
It’s really real.
I’m carrying David’s child.
Our child.
“Thanks doc…” I mutter.
I’m dangling between joy and fear.
The doctor then hands me the paper and I shoot to my feet, leaving the office.
Emerging outside, Evelyn gives me a quizzical look and I nod.
“It’s positive.”
“I knew it. Congratulations Vera.”
She hugs me with gusto but I don’t feel much happiness.
Inside me, I feel fear. Maybe this could go wrong.
As we leave the hospital, I call David.
“Hello…” I mutter into the phone when he picks.
“Baby-” he stutters. A curse leaves his lips and he snaps into the phone. “Talk to you later-”
He quickly cuts off the call.
That…that doubles my uncertainty about this baby. About what will happen to us now, to our relationship.
Like a ghost, I absentmindedly follow Evelyn home, while deciding that I’ll visit him tonight with the pregnancy result.

David’s POV***
My coffee meeting with the investors ended on a good note and I’m returning to the company now.
I make my way into the lobby of the company, people roam around.
My phone rings and I fish it out to figure out it’s Vera.
I take the call and her voice comes in, crisp.
“Hello..” she says.
“Baby…” I call.
I wanted to speak more but the instant I try to saunter into the elevator, Charlie and the receptionist came running towards me, panting.
Worried, I whisper into the phone. “Talk to you, later…” and cut the call.
“Mr. CEO, I’m sorry but there’s a problem you need to attend to…” Charlie says too fast I barely heard what he said now.
“What’s going on, Charlie?” I ask calmly.
“Sir…Ms. Claire…”
Before he could finish, I saw the figure standing behind him.
“Claire?” I call out as she approaches me.
“Hello, David.” She smirks, gazing up and down at me. “Been a long time we had a chat. Why don’t we get somewhere good and discuss?” She drawl further.
The glint in her eyes.
The smirk on her lips.
The confidence in her every step as we go into the elevator tells me…this chat isn’t going to end well.
I can feel it but I can’t think of anything exactly.
To be continued.
