Vera’s POV.
He just left me like a sack of potatoes? My throat forms a lump as the thought runs through my head. Why is he always like that after sex?
He never bothers to spend even a minute with me, he just leaves. It kinda prickles me.
The thought and David’s actions just now make my eyes sting. I’m just on the brink of shedding tears.
His actions always make me feel inferior, like I’m not skilled in giving him all that he wants, why?
The last time we did this he left me for Claire, despite all that we shared the night before and now he just switched like someone who is a bi-polar. What’s wrong with him?
I shut my eyes, trying to push back the tears but it’s verging on. I can’t control the rumble of emotions. It’s really draining me.
It was just a simple question that I asked but he turned cold quickly and left me like we hadn’t shared pleasure now.
The sounds of footsteps moving behind me make me conscious of Andrei’s presence and I start pulling my sprawled legs together, adjusting my clothes.
Even feeling his cum between my legs makes more lump form at the back of my throat, and my eyes wet.
God, I need to get a hold of myself. I’m losing it. I shouldn’t be expecting any special, romantic treatment from him given the contract I signed.
Manageably, I erect to my feet and limply walk to the stairs and into my room. Now that I’m here, it’s like all the emotions are pouring out.
I feel insecure. I feel like my ego is bruised and I want to make it stop.
“Ahh…” I hear the sound go off and it takes me a minute to realize I’m actually the one sobbing.
Why’s David so detached from me?
I can’t help it.
I lay my head on my bed, tears escaping from the corner of my eyes.
Jeez, Sage will be disappointed with me. Why in hell am I crying? My mind rattles and I quickly wipe the pathetic tears from my eyes.
I mean, this is an agreement, right? I’d rather condone his actions than not enjoy his cock.
I think he’s doing that because he doesn’t want people to know about us.
That pep talk steels my heart and I suddenly find myself not crying one beat.
David’s just working according to the contract and I should too. I shouldn’t let those pathetic emotions deny me his touch.
Sighing, I lay more comfortably on my bed and doze off, not washing his cum off me.

>>David’s POV>>
I put on the light in my office and strut further inside. The whiskey bottle I left on the desk this morning is still there. I guess Irene didn’t bother to take it off.
Feeling the strong urge to clear my thoughts with some whiskey shots, I strut over to the mini refrigerator by the corner and pull it open.
I pick up the ice bucket and grab a glass for myself and then lumber back to the table.
Sipping the drink and allowing it to burn effectively, I hear Andrei’s knock and I order him in.
He takes me in as he shuts the door.
Andrei settles his big body on the seat across from me as the words flow from his lips.
“I know what you’re thinking, boss.”
For a moment, I shut my lips. Not knowing a single thing to say. Peter’s words find their way into my mind and start prickling.
“You can’t believe that asshole. You know he’s just trying to trick you?”
I chuckle at Andrei’s words. “Don’t defend me, Andrei.”
“Fucking hell, I will. What happened that day wasn’t your fault…”
“Andrei, let’s just admit that I killed her.” I sip my drink again, reality crashing through me.
Andrei bumps his fist on the desk as he curses in Russian.
“That’s not true. Peter killed Helen. He killed his wife!”
I sneer at his words, curling my brows up as I ask. “And who do think will believe that?”
“I do.” He states firmly and I roll my eyes.
I don’t know what to think if that evidence gets out there, it’ll not only ruin my relationship with Vera but it’ll ruin my business… all I’ve worked for will be razed to the ground.
It hurts to even think about it. My legacy will be tarnished and my charity organization, destroyed.
Literally everything about me will be at stake. All because of a single act.
“Tell me, do you have any evidence to prove that?” I ask him.
Andrei’s eyes wander all over my face as if he doesn’t understand
a single thing I said. I lean on the desk, knotting my hands together as I bite out again.
“You claim I’m innocent but you have nothing to back it up. No single evidence that I killed Helen out of benevolence. Andrei wake up.”
He crunches his face as he drinks in my words.
“Fuck. That’s not supposed to be so.” He runs his hand through his hair and I see his chest heaving. “Boss, I believe you shouldn’t take the blame for that scumbag’s act.”
“Believe me, if that evidence gets out, all fingers will be pointing at me.”
Even Vera’s. The thought of it squeezes my heart like a vise. I can’t imagine the hatred she’ll have for me if eventually, the mafias use that against
me.
I lower my head as the chips of agony bite at me. I know what it took me to end Helen’s life.
The pains I felt even while I did it.
Watching life leave her eyes, it hurts like hell but I did it to save her. And now everything has come to haunt me. If I had known it’d haunt me in the future I wouldn’t have accepted to end her life. Killing her was an act of benevolence, however, now it’s a weapon fashioned against me by her husband.
“We can still find a way to fix this,” Andrei assures me. Somehow, I’m beyond being assured now.
“How do you think we can do that?” I ask.
Andrei braces himself as he says. “We have to get the video.”
Worry spatter across my face at his words. That would be a huge risk. It would mean breaking into the mafias’ world.
“It’s going be hard but I’ll get my contacts to begin a thorough investigation and if you permit, I’d love to investigate Peter too…through torture.” Andrei clarifies.
“Andrei, that would bring those men further into Vera’s life and our doorstep…” I try to counter but he cuts me off.
“If that’s what it takes, we have to do it while also protecting Vera. Don’t you want to be with her forever?” He asks, the last part shocking me.
I’ve imagined what forever would be like with Vera but I know it’s only a wishful thought.
My silence seems to encourage him to say more. “Have you ever thought what it’ll would be like living with her without a single fear for her life? I do, David.” He addresses me by my name. “I fear for her life like I feared for her mother’s.”
“I failed to protect Helen like I promised but I’m fucking not going to let that happen this time around. I’m not going to let them take Vera. Not even the video can stop that.”
My heart warms at Andrei’s words. The way he loves Helen and Vera like they’re his own makes me trust Andrei even with my own life.
Maybe if I finally get imprisoned by the government or killed by the mafia for killing Helen, Andrei will care for Vera wholly.
“Don’t even think I’ll let those bloodsuckers kill you. Nor the government arrest you.” Andrei says rising to his feet. Glaring down at me, he says. “Don’t let whatever that bastard said bring you down. You’ve been fighting for Vera, and you should continue.”
“With your permission, boss. I’d like to start an investigation.” Andrei says with resolve.
I feel this sudden boost to my spirit. Something I just lost now and that makes me nod.
“Fine then. Keep me updated.” I squeak.
With that, Andrei takes his leave.
To be continued…
