“You!” Marilyn was more furious because no one understood this better than she did.
“Tell me, I look like Maevelyn. Do you think Nelson might really mistake me for her?” Callie, having long since let go of this issue, mocked without hesitation, watching Marilyn’s eyes turn red with anger.
Marilyn’s chest heaved, losing her usual composed demeanor. She took a step back as Callie emerged from the hot spring, grabbing a towel to wrap around herself. Her wet hair draped over her shoulders, water droplets trickling into her robe.
“You are too presumptuous. Nelson could never love you; he only loves Maevelyn’s substitute!” Marilyn sneered, unwilling to accept it. “And do you think he loves you? If he did, why would I be here?”
As she spoke, she pulled out a set of keys from somewhere, with words engraved on them: Azure Ocean Villa.
Callie frowned, genuinely surprised.
“How did you get those keys?”
Seeing Callie’s surprise, Marilyn smirked with satisfaction. “Azure Ocean Villa wasn’t just visited by you. When I was still in the country, Nelson prepared it for me to study for my exams. You’re just occupying my place!”
Nelson had never mentioned it, so Callie couldn’t tell if it was true or not. She only knew that the keys in her hand were real.
She had always liked that place, where she could smell the salty sea breeze, quiet and comfortable. Was it Marilyn’s?
“Vanco and Oconnor Group have a partnership. Nelson arranged for me to stay at Azure Ocean Villa for my convenience,” Marilyn smiled. “By the way, the peach trees in the yard are growing well. Have you seen them?”
Such suggestive words in this tone were hard not to doubt.
She even knew what was planted in the yard. Callie’s throat tightened.
Marilyn felt she had hit Callie’s sensitive spot and continued, “Why aren’t you speaking? The favor you receive as Mrs. Oconnor seems rather insignificant.”
“Insignificant?” Callie laughed at that. “The clothes in the wardrobe at Paucaster Villa that haven’t been unwrapped were bought when I was angry after a fight with him. I kept buying, and he kept increasing the limit without ever feeling distressed. You say it’s a small matter because he’s rich?”
“You’ve been in our room, so you know how my things are arranged. You don’t know this, but he personally arranged everything. I don’t even know where my things are, but if I ask him, he can quickly find and hand them to me.”
Callie smiled. “Did you see the news about the official who recently fell from grace? He had ill intentions towards me and nearly violated me. Nelson arrived just in time and brought him down from his high position in just a few days. I saw his retribution.”
“Miss Ellison, being part of this circle, you know, that’s hard to make it.”
Marilyn’s bright red lips trembled slightly. She not only knew but was involved in that incident.
“After Cora kidnapped me, I was left with an ugly scar on my abdomen. Nelson tattooed thorns around it himself, saying he wanted to keep me by his side.”
“Do you want to see it?”
Marilyn took a deep breath. “You shameless woman!”
“I am indeed shameless, and you’ve been thinking me that way since we met, haven’t you?”
