Upon hearing this, Jeremy burst out laughing, and looked at Enrico and Paige and said, ‘I have waited for so many years for today, and I will not go back! You can stop me, as long as you don’t want the antidote or the solution, and you want to stay here with me and die together!’
‘…’
Enrico looked at him coldly.
Blanca pulled away from Alonso’s hand and walked over to Paige, whispering, ‘This bomb is very powerful. If it really goes off, it will destroy half of the Davis family. It’s best not to do anything rash.’
This bomb came from the Folsom family’s factory, and she knew it very well.
Paige looked up at Enrico, her brow furrowed. She couldn’t use her strength right now, but with Enrico’s marksmanship, it shouldn’t be difficult for him to kill her with one shot.
But…
she would never get the antidote again.
Paige pursed her lips. This Jeremy had caused trouble and failed every time before, but this time, he had left too many loose ends, making it hard to defend against.
‘What, are you afraid to do it?’
Seeing that no one had anything to say, Jeremy looked around, and finally smiled at Armen, who was holding the gun.
‘…’
Armen looked dejectedly at the old lady sitting next to him. She was sitting perfectly still in her chair, her attitude poised and composed, and there was not the slightest change in her expression.
‘Jeremy, have you thought about the consequences of what you’re doing?’ the old lady asked slowly.
‘Old lady, I’m at my wit’s end. It’s not too much to take a little of the Davis family’s wealth, is it? This is what Annie promised me back then. You know, she loved me so much that she was willing to give me anything,’
Jeremy said, standing there with his head held high.
‘So, Annie really has been driven to her death by you?’
The old lady asked in a calm voice, her fingers clenched around the armrest, hatred evident.
‘Open the basement.’
Jeremy cut to the chase without any further ado.
The old lady stared at him with a fierce gaze. After a while, she exhaled deeply and said, “Fine, I’ll open the basement. Armen, lead the way.”
‘Yes.”
Armen put away the gun in his hand and helped the old lady stand up.
The old lady glanced at Alonso standing nearby. Alonso bowed his head and walked over, joining Armen on either side of the old lady as they walked her inside.
‘Everyone follow me in, don’t leave anyone behind,’
Jeremy said, taking the lead.
‘Follow me,’
Enrico said, pulling Paige into his arms and walking forward with her, whispering, ‘How are you feeling?’
‘It’s not even been three hours, so I’m fine.’
Her heartbeat was a little erratic, but it wasn’t life-threatening.
Enrico’s palm pressed against her shoulder. ‘You figure out how to get him to let go on your own, but if you can’t, I won’t last three hours.’
At a certain point, he would definitely kill someone to get the medicine.
Even if that person was his biological father.
No one could take her life from him.
‘I’ll think about it,’ Paige whispered, her head aching faintly.
Having missed the best time, she didn’t know how to let Jeremy go now. This person was now tied to a bomb and was prepared to die together, so he would not say anything about the solution.
The crowd marched in.
The Davis family members always formed a siege against the group of outsiders, and they did not let go of their guns for a moment.
Along the way, Alonso finally told the old woman what he had hidden: ‘Annie seemed to have a premonition that she would die, so she left a will for me.’
‘What did the will say?’ the old woman asked.
‘She forbade me to bring news of her death back to the Davis family, causing grief to an entire family; she also forbade me to avenge her, telling me to just be an outsider,’ Alonso said, supporting the old woman.
Upon hearing this, the old woman said in a low voice, ‘When she left the Davis family, you were so intent on chasing after her that you followed her in betraying the Davis family. She felt remorse for you, so she forbade you from getting involved and from doing too much for her.’
‘No matter what the reason is, I will do whatever she says.’
Alonso’s voice was low and heavy when he talked about serious matters, no longer as casual and listless as he had been on the boat.
‘You… I already said a long time ago that she made the wrong choice back then.”
The old woman sighed and walked on with a solemn face.
Blanca walked with Brangelina, and the voices in front of them occasionally reached her, falling into her ears.
She tasted the candy in her mouth, and there was no change in her expression.
Paige looked at her and suddenly heard Brangelina raise her voice, ‘Yes, Annie can be considered clever for a lifetime, but she is so bad at judging men. If she were with Alonso, then everyone would be happy and no one would be persecuted.’
This remark was deliberate, and the meaning was clear.
Blanca still had an expressionless face.
Alonso glanced back, his eyes slightly darkened, and he didn’t say anything.
Paige silently exchanged glances with Enrico and gave a somewhat helpless smile.
Brangelina had lost to Annie, and the loss was accepted with no complaints. There was nothing to say, and she had no complaints about Annie. These words were completely for Blanca to vent her grievances and directed at Alonso.
She raised her hand and wrapped it around Enrico’s lower back, indicating that he should not mind.
‘I’m not in the mood for this right now.’
Enrico didn’t think too deeply about it at all. He just stared coldly at Jeremy.
He really couldn’t hold back any longer.
‘Alonso? He’s just a servant in the Davis family, and Annie has never looked at him in a favourable light.’
Jeremy sneered as he walked through the crowd, looking up at Alonso, ‘Am I right? Back then, you begged and pleaded, on your knees, but she still left with me.’
‘…’
There was actually such a thing.
Paige frowned as she listened, and couldn’t help but look at Blanca.
Blanca walked on with a blank expression, as if she hadn’t heard a word, but Jeremy just had to light the fire completely. He turned to Blanca and said, ‘You are husband and wife? The Folsom family is a big family after all, so how could you choose a man without checking his background? How could the descendant of a lowly servant catch the eye of the Folsom family?’
Jeremy had known about the Folsom family for a long time.
‘Jeremy!’ Alonso suddenly turned around and glared at him fiercely.
‘Even Annie has misjudged someone, so why can’t we, the Folsom family’s daughter, do the same?’ Brangelina immediately retorted.
‘Sister.’
Blanca looked at Brangelina. She wasn’t in the mood for this right now, she just wanted to know what Paige was thinking. Should she kill Jeremy to get the antidote?
‘…”
Alonso didn’t say anything and helped the old lady continue walking.
The old lady looked at them and said, ‘You people really have some complicated relationships.’
As she spoke, the solemn ancestral hall came into view.
Armen said, ‘The basement is directly below the ancestral hall. Please be quiet when entering the ancestral hall so as not to disturb the ancestors.’
‘Hurry up!’ Jeremy glared at him impatiently.
Armen took the lead and led everyone into the second door. After kneeling down in front of the ancestral tablets and knocking three times, he lowered his body and felt the ground. The stone slab moved, revealing a downward-facing step.
