CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-NINE.
Jayce’S POV.
I was well aware of the fact that this was going to lead to a very big fight between Alora and I the moment I mentioned it, but I had to, anyway.
Goodness, she’s stubborn!
The car engine gives a final roar before dying down and I run it off. I just drove into Reed’s compound and I’m in his driveway. I’m sure he’s already aware of my presence. Sighing one last time, I pull my car key and get out of the car. I’m halfway to the door when it opens up, revealing a frowning Reed.
“What the fuck are you doing here at this time of the night? Aren’t you supposed to be with your pregnant wife?” I ignore his question and walk past him, heading straight into the house. He locks the door when he gets in and comes to meet me. He’s still frowning.
“Did you drive all the way here yourself?” He asks in a calm, but deadly voice. I look at him, gritting my teeth, completely irritated by his question.
“Isn’t that obvious?”
“Are you out of your mind? Have you forgotten what happened to me? You could be the next target!” I want to ram my head into this nearby wall and die. I want the ground to open up and swallow me right now. Why am I being reprimanded everywhere I go?
“Leave me alone, Reed. I came here to clear my head, not to get reprimanded by you.” I head to the wine bar and serve my glass of whiskey. He joins me and the scorn on his face has disappeared.
He looks concerned for me now.
That’s better.
“What’s wrong? Does it have anything to do with the fact that Alora is pregnant?”
“It has everything to do with it.” I chug the whiskey and slam the glass hard against the table, groaning painfully as the harsh liquid burns its way down my throat into my stomach. My stomach organs are set ablaze as it spreads in my stomach. My entire body heats up.
“Were you guys not ready for it? Is one of you not happy about it? Is it you or Alora?”
“We are both very happy about the pregnancy, Reed. We fucking planned it.”
“Then what’s the problem?”
“She insists on riding on with her daily training with Halle. Says it’s not harmful when we all know it is! She’s so stubborn. Fucking stubborn!” I bang my balled fists against the table, murmuring incoherent curse words to myself.
“I’m not surprised she said that.” He serves himself some whiskey, using my glass.
“That’s my fucking glass!”
“And who fucking cares! You’ve had enough for the night already so it’s mine now.”
Talk of matching energies!
I roll my eyes and look away from him.
“So, what do you plan to do?”
“I wish I knew, Reed. I wish I knew. Knowing Alora, she’s going to go ahead and do what she wants until she sees the consequences of her actions with her own eyes. Now, this is not the kind of situation where I’ll have to let her do what she wants and learn her lesson. The baby’s life is on the line. Hers as well. I need to make her stop and I don’t know how to do that without being a jerk or without making her hate me.” He sips whiskey from the glass before setting it down and narrowing his gaze at me.
“I think I might know a way.” He adds. My hope twinkles.
“Please, I’m begging you. Share with me!” My voice is coated with raw frustration. This is what Alora is capable of doing to me. Frustrating the hell out of my life.
“Since you can’t be the one to talk her out of it and I can’t either, her personal trainer should be the one to do that.”
“Halle?”
“The one and only. Alora likes Halle. She listens to her. So if there is one person who can talk her out of her zeal to train despite the fact that she’s pregnant without making you look bad, it’s Halle.”
“You are absolutely correct. Why didn’t I think about that?” I ask, giving myself a gentle smack on the head.
“How about I give you a more serious smack to bring you back to your senses?” He raises his hand and tries to hit my head, but I duck and his hand whips the air instead. I shoot him a deadly glare and he chuckles and shrugs his shoulders.
“Just trying to help.”
“Get away from me, Reed.”
“Dude, you’re in my house, remember?” I step down from the stool and make my way to the kitchen, where I start rummaging through the fridge for anything edible. Thank goodness it’s fully stacked with snacks and fruits. I take out an apple and I give a big bite before turning to Reed who has followed me all the way here.
“Where is Halle by the way?”
“At her apartment. Went to spend the last night over there before moving in with me.” The piece I just bit almost falls from my mouth as I look at him in shock.
Halle is moving in with him.
“You’re serious?”
“About Halle moving in with me? Yes.” He gives me a proud nod. “She’s the one I want to be with, so there’s no reason for me to hold back.”
“And she feels the same?”
“She tells me she does.” I simply shrug my shoulders and take a seat on the kitchen island. He takes out his own apple from the fridge and joins me.
“You really love her, don’t you?”
“I’ve never felt this way for a woman.”
“You never gave any woman a chance until Halle.”
“Halle captivated me at first sight. It was impossible to get her out of my mind.”
“She’s almost like you. Personality wise.”
“I’m well aware of that. It’s what I love the best about her. She’s awesome.” I chuckle lightly, shaking my head. Who would have thought the cold-hearted Omega would fall head over heels with a girl who wasn’t even his mate.
The Moon goddess works in mysterious ways.
“You are indeed smitten.”
“You have no idea. I’ll ask Halle to talk to Alora tomorrow at the training center, so let her go.”
“Got it.”
We both eat our apples while discussing other random issues until it’s time for me to go back home. By the time I arrive at my bedroom, Alora is fast asleep. I kiss her goodnight before taking my spot on the bed.
Everything will be settled tomorrow.
