CHAPTER ONE HUNDRED AND TWENTY-SEVEN.
Jovan’S POV.
“I feel like we are doomed in this mission of ours.” I cry, pacing about my spacious living room. Anger is surging through every fibre in my body. My body is trembling with rage and I feel like throwing every piece of furniture in this room against the wall, but to what extent? What good is it going to bring me? Will it fix the problems lined up in front of me?
Definitely not.
Pregnant.
She’s fucking pregnant!
The news has spread throughout the entire pack like wildfire and in less than no time, it will be sung by every lip in the world.
“Don’t talk like that.”
“What else do you want me to say, mother?” I swivel around abruptly to look at her, red, hot rage blazing in my eyes. “None of our attempts on their lives have worked. Not on Jayce, not on Reed, not on Alora. As if Reed being Royalty wasn’t already enough trouble for us, Alora just had to get pregnant. Do you have any idea what that means?” I ask looking from Lloyd, to Skye and then to my mother, they are all shaking their heads.
They are blank.
“It means extra security for Alora and it’ll be impossible for us to get to her from now on. One person is already off our list!”
“Then let her be.” That’s Lloyd. I shoot him a scorching glare. He nods, insisting on his point as he jumps to his feet, shoving both hands in his trouser pockets and reciprocating my glare.
“Yes.” He nods. “Let her be. I’m saying so because if you look at this critically Alora…”
“What the fuck happened to your face?” I blurt out the moment my eyes fall on the fresh wound line running from his left jaw bone to his chin. He stops talking and carefully touches the spot.
“This?”
“Yes. That. And why isn’t it healing? It looks like a small wound.”
“It won’t heal because it was inflicted by Reed, who happens to be a werewolf of higher rank.”
“You got into a fight with Reed?” I ask aghast and he shakes his head in denial. A heavy sigh of relief escapes my chest.
Engaging in a one on one fight with either Reed or Jayce right now is something I do not want to experience.
“I wouldn’t dare. He figured I’m the one behind his accident, so he paid me a late night visit at my apartment. I honestly thought he was going to kill me, but he didn’t.” I swallow dryly.
“I swear that guy is terrifying.”
“He sure is, but there must be a way to take him down and we are going to find out.” Lloyd’s confidence is one thing that keeps me going. I don’t know where he gets it from, but I’m happy I have him on my side. “So, as I was saying, Alora isn’t really a problem to us because she can be taken down anytime. The people we have to focus on are Reed and Jayce. If we can take them down, then getting rid of Alora will not be a problem.”
“Or…” Skye adds. This is the first time she’s talking since we all gathered here today. Both Lloyd and I divert our attention to her as she rises to her feet with an evil smile on her face. “If it bothers you so much that Alora is pregnant, we could make her lose the baby.” My brows almost touch my hairline as my eyes widen. Lloyd is gawking at her like she grew two heads.
Make Alora lose the child she’s carrying.
“That sounds like a death sentence to all of us. If that happens, Jayce will not take it easy. He will know it’s us and he will bring down the wrath of hell upon us. Right now we are already in a tight spot, we cannot afford to make things any more difficult for us.“
“That’s only going to happen if he’s able to trace it to us, which he won’t.”
“He will, okay? As of now, Jayce knows we are his only enemies and if anything bad happens to either him or his mate, he will know it’s us. I’ve seen how monstrous Jayce can get when Alora is touched, not to talk of his unborn child. If we want to stay alive to succeed in this mission, we have to avoid doing what you just proposed, because it will activate the beast in him and trust me, none of us in this room will survive if that happens.” Lloyd is nodding his head by the time I’m done with my speech. Skye looks like she just came to her senses and my mother’s facial expression tells me she’s not buying Skye’s idea either. “So, we are going nowhere close to that unborn child. Nowhere close to Alora for now. Our focus is on Reed and Jayce. Understood?”
“Yes, Alpha.” She agrees with a nod and I heave out a heavy sigh.
“So, if we are not going any close to Alora for now, who are we going to target next?” That’s my mum. I place both hands on my waist and start pacing again, thinking deeply I look at Lloyd’s face and chills run down my spine when I see his scar again.
Reed paid him a late night visit.
That was definitely a warning. A very serious warning to Lloyd.
“Also, this time around, when thinking of a plan, we have to think of something that’s actually going to work, especially when it comes to Reed, because he gave me a very serious warning during his surprise visit. He said to make sure he dies the next time I try to kill himbecaise if he doesn’t, he’ll kill us all and he won’t care if that’s going to be in public. I looked in his eyes and he wasn’t bluffing.” My spine goes rigid. Freezing-cold water has been down on my head and I’m as stiff as a board as the water trickles down my body into my toes.
He wasn’t bluffing.
“Then I suggest we lie low for now till this tension is over.” I say, looking at them all. The look on their faces means they agree with me. “Let’s take a month to lie low, while strategizing our next move. What do you all think?”
“I think it’s a great idea.” Says Lloyd, taking a firm pose. My mum and Skye simply nod their heads and I sigh.
I swear I can’t wait for the day I’ll hold a knife or gun against that stupid step brother of mine. I will kill him without batting an eyelid.
