Jayce’S POV.
The world is fading in and out of focus. Shades of grey. My mouth is sitting on my kneecap.
I just witnessed a resurrection.
Reed was dead a moment ago when I walked into this room, but right now, he isn’t. He’s sitting on the slab, looking at me like I’m mad for being shocked that he’s alive again.
Even after dying and resurrecting, he won’t quit being an ass.
“Are you going to keep sitting there and looking like an idiot or come over and ask me what’s going on?”
An ass he will forever be.
I force myself to rise up.
Mind you, I am still terrified about him being alive, but I cannot begin to explain I feel deep within me. As I walk over to the bed, my legs move swiftly, easily, silently. My eyes are hovering all over his body and I’m praying in my heart that this shouldn’t be an illusion.
This shouldn’t be a scene my mind is playing in my head to trick me into believing that Reed isn’t dead, whereas he is.
“You look terrified!” He remarks. I look at his face.
“Are you sure this isn’t an illusion?” I touch his hair. It feels alive. It’s as soft as chocolate. I touch his face. It’s warm, soft, and alive. I scout his entire body. I blink several times.
I even slap and prick my jaws to make sure this isn’t a dream.
“This isn’t an illusion, neither is it a dream.”
“But how?” I am dumbfounded. I need answers.
Resurrection?
I have never heard of anything like that happening ever in the werewolf world.
“One minute you were dead and the next minute there were light rays shooting out from your arm and now you are alive. How is that possible?” My temples are throbbing from over stimulation. A ridge from between his brows as he turns his to show me his right scapula. It’s still glowing, but not as much as before and…
Holy Moon goddess!
The Royal Birthmark!
The Crescent moon.
That’s what’s glowing!
“That’s the Royal Birthmark! It’s what’s glowing. How do you have it?” My eyes widen with sheer mortification.
“Did you miss the part where I said we are brothers?”
“Brothers?” I repeat the word and my heart skips a beat.
Brothers.
He has the Royal Birthmark. That means we are indeed brothers!
“We are brothers?”
“Yes, twin brothers.”
“Twin brothers?” I scream.
“We were separated at birth!”
“Jesus Christ! What the fuck is going on here Reed? How come we are twin brothers? Why don’t I know about this? Who are we? There’s so much going on in my head right now.”
“I’ll explain everything to you once I’m stable, I promise.”
“What happened to you? Who tried to … I mean who killed you? What’s going on?” My chest feels like it has been cut open with the reality of this moment.
I am one pile of confusion forged into being. It’s like I’m not who I think I am. This world is not a world. It’s something else.
Soon, doctors rush into the room and the next thing I hear is screams of terror when they see Reed sitting upright and very alive. Some take on their heels while others who are courageous enough approach him and bow.
“Go now. We’ll talk soon.” He tells me and I nod my head. I lifelessly walk out of the cold room, my lungs beckoning me to breathe.
I cannot breathe.
“Jayce.” Alora calls and rushes to meet me.
“What’s going on in there?” Why were the nurses screaming and rushing out? Where’s Reed’s body?” I drop onto the seat nearby, staring blankly into space. Both Lloyd and Alora and standing by my side, trying to get words about Reed’s situation out of me.
I want to tell them what I saw, what is going on but I’m speechless. The letters in my head are scattered all over and I cannot string them together to form reasonable words to say to anyone.
“Oh my God Lloyd!” Alora screams as the doctor’s wheel Lloyd out of the room on a hospital bed.
“Hello Luna Alora, Lloyd.” He blinks an eye at them. Lloyd looks like he’ll drop dead the next minute and so does Alora.
I don’t blame them. I had the same reaction.
“What the hell is going on?” Lloyd asks lifelessly as he watches Reed being taken away. “I saw him with my own two eyes! He was dead. How come he’s alive right now? How is this even possible?” I rise from the chair and turn his way.
“It’s uh…” I suck in a deep breath. “It is indeed something to be shocked about, but I think we should be happy that he’s alive again. Our Omega is back with us.” I hold myself back from telling them what Reed said about us being brothers. He still has to explain how we were separated at birth. I need to know the dynamics of our separation. Right now I’m already very upset with our parents for doing such an outrageous thing to us.
“I… I don’t even know what to say about this right now.” That’s Alora. I snake my fingers between hers and lift her hand to my mouth to kiss it.
“He’ll explain everything to us once he’s stable.” I turn to Lloyd.
“You look like you’re gonna shit your pants.”
“It seems I have already. Reed challenged even death and won. Goodness me! I need some air.” He heads out of the hallway, leaving just Alora and I who later leave the morgue for the hospital.
I’m still in a trance. I’m still thinking about everything that just happened and can’t quite wrap my head around it.
“Reed truly is no ordinary Beta. Babe, do you know what it means for a werewolf to be given another chance of life?”
“I know baby, I know.”
It means he’s of a very high rank in this pack and he cannot die until his work here is done.
It means he’s like me.
