Alora’S POV
Training ended at two pm and by then, I was on power saving mode. I was famished, parched, all my joints and muscles were aching and I saw five of anything that came into my view. The guards literally carried me to the car because I couldn’t walk.
When I got home, I took a warm bath, ate and died on the bed. It’s seven pm, I’m just waking up from my slumber and the first thing that has crossed my mind is the conversation I had with Skye earlier today. From the way she spoke to me, it seems there’s something Alpha Jayce is not telling me and it has to do with her.
I’m tempted to believe what’s running through my mind, but I won’t. I don’t want to jump into conclusions and hate myself afterwards. I’m only going to believe what Alpha Jayce tells me.
I lay off the comforter from my body and step down from the bed. It’s seven pm in and Alpha Jayce should be back home by now, except he’s working late. I pick up my phone from my nightstand and as I’m about to dial his number, the room door opens and he walks in.
My face stretches into a smile.
“Heyyyy.” I call playfully.
“Baby.” He saunters over to me and plants a warm kiss on my forehead. “You’re finally awake.”
“Did you arrive?”
“Yeah.” He nods. “I found you asleep when I got in and figured you were very tired so I didn’t want to wake you up. How are you?”
“I’m not fine at all.” I pout my lips and give him my best baby face.
I like how I’m getting comfortable with him. I can even be naughty.
That’s cute.
He chuckles lightly as he calmly strokes my hair.
“It feels like all the bones in my body have been broken. Every part of my body hurts.”
“I’m sorry about that. But don’t you worry, in a week’s time, you won’t feel anything after exercising. Your body must be surprised by everything that’s going on with it right now.” I chuckle lightly.
“It sure is. My poor body.”
“So tell me, did you enjoy your training?”
“You seriously want me to go into detail?” He calmly nods his head.
“Well. We started with jogging, which lasted almost thirty minutes, but we had about three minutes breaks at intervals, after which we did some jumping jacks, squats, more jogging and then we went for a long break which lasted an hour and when we came back, we did more jumping jacks and squats and jogging. Halle said we’ll spend the entire week doing these little exercises in order to relax my bones and muscles.”
“You had quite an interesting day, didn’t you?”
“I would hardly call it interesting. I’d say I had an excruciatingly painful day because the sporting activities weren’t the only things that gave me a hard time.”
“What else gave you a hard time?” He has a concerned look in his eyes. I contemplate for a while whether to tell him about Halle’s cold attitude towards me or not.
“Well… the thing is.”
“What’s the thing?”
“My personal trainer, Halle, do you know her personally?” I ask, curious. A ridge forms between his brows as he shakes his head.
“No, I don’t. Reed recommended her. He said she was the best female trainer in the pack so I picked her for you. Is she not good enough?”
“She’s more than perfect.”
“Then what’s wrong?”
“Is she in any way related to Reed? Like are they siblings, cousins… you know, any relation of that sort?”
“Uh…” he looks at the ceiling and thinks for a while. “No. They aren’t. Reed is an only child and I know all his cousins and also, he would’ve told me if he was in any way related to that girl.”
“Ah… is that so?”
“Tell me what’s wrong babe.”
“The thing is, she’s cold and aloof, just like Reed. She just gives her orders coldly, most times she doesn’t answer the questions I ask her, she won’t even make small talk with me, she didn’t smile at me even once as we trained. She looked utterly bored to be there, like she would rather do other things than train me.”
“Meaning she was being mean to you?”
“Yeah, something like that.”
“I will speak with her tomorrow. In fact, I’ll change her.”
“No. I don’t want you to do that.” I object. He gives me a shocked gaze.
“Why not?”
“Because I don’t even know her at all.”
“But she knows you. She knows you are her Luna, yet she decided to disrespect you.”
“Alpha Jayce, please… let me get to know her first. I can tell she’s someone like Reed who doesn’t like talking to or interacting with people. When I finally get to understand that kind of person she is, I’m sure we’ll work just fine. I like her. I want her to be my trainer.”
“But she seems to be disrespecting you.”
“I’m going to gain her respect. I only told you this because I don’t want to keep anything for you. I don’t want you fighting all my battles for me. This is a women’s issue, I can deal with it.”
“Are you sure?” He looks worried. I lean forward and give a quick peck on his lips.
“I’m one hundred percent sure. Let’s just give it some time.”
“Fine! But let me know when things become unbearable. I don’t want anybody treating you badly in this pack. Can you promise to do that?”
“I promise I’ll let you know if Halle’s attitude becomes unbearable.”
“That’s my girl. Come here.” He pulls me into his arms and I adjust myself in his big, warm arms.
Whenever Alpha Jayce hugs me, I feel like I’m floating. Like nothing in the world can hurt me. He’s my knight in shining armour.
“Why don’t you ask him yourself?”
Skye’s words ring in my mind and my heart starts beating fast. I don’t know if I should ask him or not.
Will he get mad if I do?
Will he tell me the truth?
Should I just let it slide?
What if that girl is simply trying to instigate problems between Alpha Jayce and I?
But then, the look in her eyes when she said those words was serious. It didn’t seem like she was bluffing. I could see how hard she was trying to hold herself back from spilling everything to me.
There’s something I have to know and I must know. I calmly withdraw from the hug and look at Alpha Jayce who is smiling from molar to molar.
“Alpha Kai.” My voice is almost inaudible. I can hear my heart pounding in my ears as I prepare to pose the question.
“Yes baby.” Our eyes lock. Anxiety crawls up to my throat, beckoning me to drop the issue and stay silent, but my zeal to find out what he’s hiding from me is greater than my fear right now.
“There’s something I would like to ask you.” A chill runs down my spine when the smile on his face disappears and is replaced with a serious look. He can sense the tension in my words already.
“Go ahead, love.” I nervously lick my bottom lip. My pulse quickens as I assess his countenance.
Should I clear my throat and tell him nothing?
Should I pose the question?
“Alora.” His calm voice comes through and my breath hitches. “You can ask me anything.”
“Is there something you aren’t telling me about someone?” I blurt out and watch all the colour drain from his face. His brows rise as his head protrudes forward in surprise.
“I… I don’t think I understand.”
“Like, do you have anything to tell me about someone? I’m sorry I don’t know how else to ask the question.”
“No. I don’t.” He answers curtly and I purse my lips.
“There’s nothing?” He shakes his head. There’s an easy smile on his lips and his face no longer looks too serious.
“Nothing at all.” Relieve hits me like ocean waves, washing away every iota of doubt from my heart and my mind.
I even smile.
“That’s all I wanted to know.” I crash once more into his embrace and wrap my arms around his torso, smiling like an idiot.
Skye was bluffing.
Like I guessed before, she was only trying to start up a fight between Alpha Jayce and I.
Why would she even want that to happen in the first place?
Wait…
Is she in love with my mate?
