Jovan’S POV.
I’m trembling and I don’t know why.
It cannot be because of the conversation I just had with Reed. It shouldn’t be. A mere Omega cannot make me tremble. He is nothing!
I barge into my living room and walk helter-skelter, both hands on my waist and hot smoke breezing out from my ears.
I was humiliated by that good for nothing Omega before everyone in the banquet hall and now I’ll have to live with that shame forever. I won’t let him go free for doing that. I will make sure he pays dearly.
He already dug his grave the moment he stopped me from biting Alpha Jayce last night right now, he just jumped into it and all that’s left for me to do is cover it up and I will.
I head over to my wine bar and take out a bottle of whiskey from the shelves. I’m too upset to serve myself a drink, so I uncork the lid and drink directly from the bottle. The scorching liquid fries its way down my throat, causing me to close my eyes and groan loudly. It heats up all my internal organs and leaves a nostalgic taste on my tongue that makes me crave more of it. I don’t resist the cravings. I lift the bottle back to my lips and drink a good amount. I need to drink away this shame and embarrassment before I lose my mind.
I take a seat on a nearby barstool and keep drinking.
As if my plan of having Alora getting bitten by at least one of those snakes didn’t work, Reed just had to completely ruin the day by humiliating me in public.
He’s a thorn in my flesh and I must get rid of him.
“Jovan.” A familiar voice calls. I don’t need to turn around and look before I know it’s my mother. The clicking sound of her heels echo throughout the room as she walks closer to me. “How did it go?” She asks, taking a seat beside me.
I don’t even have the courage to face her. She gave me one simple assignment to do and I messed it up. I’m too ashamed to look her in the eye and tell her I failed.
“Jovan.” She calls, worried. “Tell me what happened.” She urges.
I finally summon courage and look at her and my heart sinks when I see the hopeful look on her face.
Mum refused to attend the coronation party. That’s how much she hates Jayce and Alora. She wants nothing to do with them and she has sworn never to attend any party that has to do with them and Jayce doesn’t care.
The hopeful look on her face completely shatters my heart. She must be expecting me to tell her some really good news.
I’m sorry mum.
“Mum.” I call calmly as I set the bottle down, giving her a sorry look. “I’m sorry mum.”
“Why are you being sorry? Word reached me that snakes were found in one of the gifts. Does that mean it worked?” She asks eagerly. I calmly shake my head.
“No, it didn’t. It would if that overly pompous Omega called Reed didn’t show up and opt to open the gifts before handing them to Alora. It seems he’s taking his duties really serious.” I’m irritated as I explain it all to her. I can taste the bitterness in my mouth.
“That bastard!” Mum curses as she pulls the whiskey from my hands and serve herself a glass of the whiskey. I watch in amusement as she drinks it down in one go. She’s upset.
I have upset my mum.
“I’m sorry mum, I should’ve thought of another way to make it reach her. I’m really sorry I messed this up. This was a perfect chance for us to get to her.” I apologise from the depth of my heart. Mum furiously downs another shot of whiskey and slams her glass on the table.
When she looks at me, my heart starts racing.
Is she disappointed?
Is she going to scold me?
This doesn’t look too good.
“There’s nothing for you to be sorry about. You had no idea the security would be so tight. By the way, this was just a trial. There will be other better opportunities for us to get her. Don’t let it bother you too much.” She consoles me and a feeling of relief washes through me.
I’m happy she’s not upset.
“I’m just disappointed, bit like you said, there will be better opportunities. We just have to keep watching closely.”
“Exactly.”
“And also, there’s someone we have to get rid of, else getting to either Jayce or Alora Will be very difficult.”
“Who’s that?” She asks with creased brows. I clear my throat and turn to face her completely.
“The Omega, Reed. He is bent on protecting both Alpha and Luna. Last night, I tried to attack Jayce to give him the bite I told you about, but he got in my way and I bit him instead. Today, he showed up from nowhere and said he would open the gifts before showing them to Alora. He loves them. He’s on their side and to get to them, then we’ll have to pass through him. He’s so annoying.”
“Then we are going to eliminate him like you said. He’s a mere Omega. That won’t be a big deal.”
Memories of what happened at the banquet hall flood my mind once more and I find myself nodding my head.
It will do me so much pleasure to get rid of him.
“That said, you should stop drinking and go to bed now. The real work starts tomorrow, so go upstairs and get some sleep. You failed today, but that doesn’t mean you’ll fail tomorrow. Stay strong.”
“Thank you mother.” I step down from the stool and kiss her cheeks. “Good night.”
“Goodnight baby.” I smile foolishly when she calls me that.
I love it when she calls me baby.
I notice I’m a bit tipsy as I walk toward the staircase. I’m definitely going to sleep till noon tomorrow.
