Olivia’s POV
The woman’s admiration soon turned to fear and she looked like she regretted divulging that information.
“Oh no, no, no.”
She quickly picked up the bed sheets and was about to scurry away, but I grabbed her arm and held her back.
“Wait. Where are you going?”
She pulled her arm free from my grasp and made a run for it. I dashed after her and blocked her path.
“Where are you going? I need answers.”
“Stay away from me! I can’t speak of any of this!”
She turned the other way and dashed down the hallway. She had to be a werewolf. There was no way that a human could run that fast.
I picked up the pace and ran after her. It was like searching for treasure in a maze. Twisting and turning through the hallways and only catching slight glimpses of her as she turned the corners.
“Hey! Stop! I need to talk to you!”
I turned a corner, and it was a dead end. I was panting from exhaustion. Who was this lady, and what did she know about me? Who was she working for? And what did she mean, but I looked like her? Who is ‘her’?
I stood in the hallway and listened. I sniffed the air and I could tell that she was still in the hallway. The windows were still tightly locked so she couldn’t have jumped out. She must have gone into one of the rooms, but which one?
I turned around and looked at the doors. I was sceptical about opening any of them. What if an unsuspecting couple was inside one of the rooms, and I barged in on them so rudely?
I closed my eyes and waited. This was the time to use Sephora’s training. She had told me to wait and listen, to be completely in tune with my surroundings.
I was still on edge. I didn’t know the lady. She was unfamiliar and she seemed to recognise me somehow. Maybe she knew my true family. Maybe she could take me to them. I still didn’t understand why she was hoarding the information.
Part of me wanted to rush downstairs and tell Jonas and Andre about the lady, but the thought scared me. After seeing Jonas treat those two men like that, I didn’t want them to hurt…
“Hey!”
I felt a door open, and the lady stuck her head out. As soon as we locked eyes, she took off again like the wind.
“Hey! Stop! Stop running away from me!”
I was already exhausted, but the curiosity burning inside of me urged me forward. I was determined to catch her and find out what she knew. It was possible that she knew my father directly and knew the reason why he was here in the first place.
“You know that you’re never going to catch her at this rate,” Nima interrupted in a sassy voice. “Your legs are too short, and it is obvious that her wolf is boosting her energy.”
I was immediately offended. Why couldn’t Nima ever talk to me nicely? I didn’t have short legs, but she was right.
There was no way that I was going to catch the lady if I continued to run with my own energy. I was already exhausted, and my stomach was hurting. All this stress was bad for the baby.
I looked up and saw the lady heading to the stairs. She was going to the next floor.
“No, you can’t.”
My energy burst out of me as I sped down the corridor. The woman was startled by the sight of me hurdling towards her at such speed. Soon, it was too late; she did not have enough time to react, so I grabbed her by the arm and tightened my grip.
“You aren’t going anywhere.”
She gasped in horror, and I pulled her back up to the floor that we were on and took her aside to interrogate.
“What is going on? Who are you? And who do I look like?”
The lady was sweating nervously and shaking her head in fear.
“No, no, no. I can’t tell you. I can’t tell you, or they will kill me.”
I was even more intrigued.
“Who is going to kill you? Calm down, I can help. You don’t have to worry. I can protect you.”
The woman looked into my eyes, and her grey pupils were mesmerising. She calmed down and took a deep breath.
“Alright, fine. I will tell you, but you mustn’t breathe a word about this to anyone or even tell anyone that you saw me. If word gets out, they will find me and kill me and probably kill you too.”
I gulped in fear but gave her my word that I would keep my mouth shut.
She agreed and finally took me down the corridor, and we slipped into a small room.
There was a bed and a few belongings, but the living space was terribly small and uncomfortable.
I let go of her, and she went to a bag that leaned on the wall and began to rummage through it. I watched her with curiosity. What was she looking for?
It didn’t take long for her to stand up, and she thrust something into my hand.
I looked at her skeptically but she gave a firm nod. I turned the thing around and saw that it was a picture frame and there was a picture of a lady, standing alone near some flowers.
My hands gripped the frame even tighter, and my heart began to thud.
Who… who was this lady? And why did she look so much like me?
I stroked the paper and the touch was electrifying. She was a spitting image of me. She had the same blue eyes and mouth and round face and her hair was just as curly as mine. What was going on?
I felt a connection to this picture and the more I stared at it, the more questions popped up in my head.
Was she my mother? A sister? The resemblance was shocking. She had to be either of these.
I looked up at the woman.
“Who is… this!”
