Andre’s POV
I spent the rest of my morning pacing around anxiously in my office, waiting for the research team to come.
Hearing that they had possibly found a solution to Olivia’s symptoms put me on edge. What if the tests prove negative for Olivia? What if they harmed her? What if they didn’t work at all? All that work, effort, and time would be for nothing. And I would have to keep Olivia here even longer, and that would make her even more upset.
I tried not to be negative, but worry continued to knock at the door of my mind. I didn’t want anything to happen to Olivia and our child. This clinical trial was a big risk that we were taking. I was even more scared that her special genes would reject the drugs and her body would react negatively to the medication.
I heard a light knock at my study door and dashed to open it. I pulled the door open so fast that I startled the maid that stood there and she nearly lost her footing.
“Good gracious Goddess!” She exclaimed in fear but finally relaxed as soon as she saw me.
“Alpha, the research team is here to…”
” Show them in, show them in.”
I was so anxious that I didn’t even allow her to finish delivering the message.
She bowed and walked away. About ten minutes later, the research team was ushered into my study, and I noticed a small transparent case in the leader’s hands.
“Good morning, Alpha.”
I hurriedly sat down and waited for them to tell me about the medication.
The leader could see the anxiety and impatience in my eyes, and he quickly cut to the chase.
“Alpha Andre, we have managed to synthesise an elixir that will help alleviate the Luna’s symptoms. We did run clinical trials on a few other wolves in our pack that were on heat and there was a 95% success rate. However, we are a little sceptical that they will yield the same results on Luna Olivia as she has very special genes and seems to be very resistant to a lot of medication.”
My face became a frown and my eyes narrowed on the leader of the research team.
“If you weren’t sure that they were going to work on the Luna, then why did you bring them?”
I could feel the anger rising in my voice, and I knew that the leader of the research team could sense it, too.
He slowly stepped backwards and began to stutter in fear.
“A… Alpha, we did do a comparative analysis with Luna Olivia’s blood and that of a few others that were on heat in our pack. The hormones responsible for her symptoms are the same as any other female werewolf. There is no alteration. We also did a test with a sample of her DNA, and the medication proved very successful. But that was a small-scale test and we are yet to find out if it will work on Olivia on a large scale, such as this. There’s a very big difference between a sample of DNA and a person that carries the embodiment of that sample. We only have a fraction of the antigens that her body can produce, and she may have produced new counteractive ones from regular exposure to her environment. We don’t know what she has done or eaten in the last few days.”
My anger slowly burnt away, and I realised that the scientist was right. I hadn’t taken Olivia to the research institute for them to work on the medication with more samples of her DNA, so they were a little constricted.
The leader placed the box of syringes on my desk and stepped back slightly.
“We synthesised an elixir and placed equal amounts of it in about twenty sterilised injection needles. Each injection will counteract her symptoms for about 16 hours, and she needs to take one injection every day only when she feels the symptoms.”
I opened the box and took out one of the syringes.
They were very small and light, and the needles were capped. The elixir was clear, and I noticed that each syringe contained about 0. 5ml of it.
“What if it doesn’t work?”
The leader looked at me, surprised.
“What?”
I turned to him slowly and placed the syringe back into its box.
“I asked a very simple question, head scientist. What if this doesn’t work for her? Will it have any adverse effects on her health? If anything happens to her or the baby…”
“No, no, no.”
The head scientist waved his hands frantically. He didn’t need to wait for me to finish my statement before he knew where I was heading.
“This medication is a hormone blocker. Hormones are specific in action, and we have tailored these to target her estradiol specifically. They will have no effect on her pregnancy hormones or any other hormones. And if she does stop taking them, her body will resume normal secretion of her estradiol. They will have no adverse side effects as long as she maintains the proper prescription of one injection daily. The injection is also administered intramuscularly on either her thigh, upper arm, or a…”
I raised my eyebrow, and the scientist backpedalled.
“I mean, ‘posterior’.”
Hearing the news, I felt slightly elated. I relaxed in my chair and took a deep breath.
There was a thin silence in the room, but the research leader quickly broke it.
“Excuse me, Alpha. Shouldn’t the Luna be here so that we can show her medication and tell her the prescription?”
I nodded and leaned forward in my chair.
“Olivia is in her room and she’s getting some rest. She has had a very busy day, but I’ll make sure that she gets these drugs and she tests them out as soon as possible.”
The researchers left, and I took the box upstairs to our room. I was just about to knock on the door, but I realised that it was quieter than usual.
“Olivia?”
I opened the door, and Olivia turned, and I felt my heart jump in fright..
“Olivia, what happened to you…”
