Olivia’s POV
He was about to kiss me again but was interrupted by the sound of his phone ringing. He reached into his pockets and pulled it out and I barely caught a glimpse of the name.
I smiled at him and pushed the phone closer to his chest.
“You should take it. It’s probably very important.”
He gave me a quick kiss on the forehead and answered the call.
“What is it?”
“Hello to you too, Andre. What a lovely way to say ‘good morning’. Anyway, I stopped by and got the DNA test results between Nicole and Olivia that you asked for. It’s ready. I’m with the results, and I will deliver them to you as soon as I get to the mansion.”
“Alright. I’ll see you soon.”
The call ended, and I looked at him.
“Was that the research institute?”
He shook his head.
“No. It’s Doran. He called to tell me that the results for the DNA test are ready, and he’s bringing them here.”
I looked at him, confused.
“Did the research institute run the DNA test?
He shook his head again.
“No. The research institute is only for researching and investigating important medical causes. I doubt they would have time to run something as simple as a DNA test. He’s picking it up from the hospital and will be here in a few minutes.”
My confusion vanished but was immediately replaced by a scowl. I folded my arms across my chest and glared at Andre.
“So, you mean to tell me that Doran knew that Nicole wasn’t my mother long before I found out?”
He rolled his eyes and exhaled. Just because I said it was okay didn’t mean he was out of the woods just yet.
He pulled me close and pinched my cheeks lightly.
“Liv, I thought we went over this. Please let us not go over this again.”
I exhaled and relaxed.
“Fine, but I still demand that you pacify me.”
He pulled me in close, and I put up an adorable demeanour to grab his attention. He chuckled and kissed my cheeks.
“I’ll do whatever my princess wants.”
My scowl eased up and gave way to a smile.
He took her hand and guided me to the living room where we sat and decided to wait for Doran to arrive.
I heard my stomach growl, and Andre coaxed me into eating. I refused at first. But after much persuasion, I agreed for the both of us to go to the dining table and get something to eat.
“I am only a little hungry,” I said with a light blush.
The maid brought our breakfast, and Andre watched me wolf down a plate of food and demand for a second and third helping.
I could tell he was watching me eat with great gusto. Soon, I couldn’t bear the weight of his gaze, so I slowed down and blushed a light pink.
“Stop looking at me like that!” I exclaimed shyly. “I’ve got two people to feed.”
He said nothing and continued to eat, taking subtle glances at me as I continued to gobble my food.
We finished eating, and I had three plates in front of me. I burped into a napkin, and I felt a whole lot better now that I was satisfied. I was about to reach my glass of water when a maid walked up to both of us.
“Alpha Andre, Luna Olivia, the Beta is waiting to see the both of you .”
Andre ushered Doran in, and he took a seat at the dining table.
“Isn’t this just lovely? Both of you are having breakfast. I hope you saved some for me.”
Andre made a gesture with his hand, and the maid brought something for Doran to eat. As the maid set the food down in front of Doran, he handed Andre the DNA test results.
I saw Andre grab it with nervous hands, and he opened it carefully as if he was diffusing a bomb. I could feel the tension all around the table. Even Doran had stopped eating to listen to the results being announced.
Andre’s eyes glossed over the paper, and a satisfied look stole his facial expression. He nodded and handed me the results to look at.
I brushed over them as fast as possible, and the shock hit me, but not as much as the one I got this morning, seeing Nicole in the secret basement. The DNA test confirmed that Nicole was truly not my mother.
I still wasn’t completely sure of how to feel. I felt happy that I finally knew that that witch was not in any way related to me, but it also meant that my father, who I had grown to know, was also not related to me.
I always thought that I would have him and that he would always be an essential part of my life. But now, I’m not even sure if the love he showered on me when I was little was sincere.
Nicole told me that they were forced to take care of me. Could it be true that all the good memories that I had with him were born out of compulsion and not love?
It still didn’t make any sense because my real parents abandoned me, and I didn’t even know why. Was I not good enough, or did they just hate me that much?
Silent tears rolled down my face as I continued to stare at the ‘negative’ written in bright red letters.
No. Nicole might not be my mother but Papa was always there when I needed him. I remembered the letter that he had written to Nicole about me. He gave his life to protect me, so there was no way that all my memories with him could be fake. He loved me for me and not because she was afraid of the people who had forced me into his family, into his home.
For as long as I lived, he was always going to be my real father. He was there when I needed him.
His ash jar was in Andre and I’s room, and I could feel his presence sometimes, watching over me and smiling.
I couldn’t let this disheartening news dampen my feelings towards him. I loved Papa, and I would always love him.
“Please excuse me.”
I stood up from the dining table and left without a word.
