Olivia’s POV
I stood in the principal’s office with my head bowed low and my fingers twisting through each other restlessly.
The principal had scolded me and my two assailants, but it felt like I was the one who got the heat of it. I could still hear them snickering as we continued to stand before him while he filled out some forms.
Suddenly, the door opened, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. The scent that filled the air was more than familiar, and my fury turned into fear; I was in so much trouble.
The principal raised his head from his work and uttered the words I dreaded to hear: “Alpha Andre, we are so glad that you are here.”
My muscles tightened in fear and embarrassment, and my eyes shut even tighter. I heard one of the girls snicker.
“I can’t believe this embarrassment is supposed to be our Luna.”
My cheeks went red again in anger, and my muscles twitched as I harboured thoughts of punching her nose again as I had earlier. It was obvious that she hadn’t learned her lesson, and I was more than happy to teach it to her again.
I could feel Andre’s eyes bearing down on me angrily, and another shiver ran through my body. Beads of sweat dotted my forehead, and I could feel my breathing getting more erratic by the second.
Andre shook hands with the principal, and I was forced to listen to the entire ordeal all over again as the principal explained the situation to Andre. It was a gruesome ten minutes, the worst ten minutes of my life. I was on the bridge of a heart attack.
Finally, the explanation was over, and Andre turned to me and the two girls. His eyes darted between us but finally settled on my attackers.
“What are your names again?” Andre questioned the girls with an icy tone in his voice.
I caught sight of the girls twitching in fear, and it took the edge off my anxiety for a few minutes.
“My name is Dina.”
“And mine is Lexi.”
Andre nodded satisfactorily and allowed silence to hang in the air for a few minutes.
“That’s very good. You must understand that I do not tolerate fighting in my pack. You and your parents will be hearing from my assistant.”
They whimpered in fear, but Andre had made up his mind. He turned to the principal, who was also trembling in fear of his fury.
“Thank you so much for doing your job. If there’s anything else, you can contact my assistant, Pierre, and he will relay the information to me. I think we are done here, and I will take Miss Olivia back home. Let’s go, Olivia.”
He didn’t wait for the principal to reply and called me to follow him. My feet had been glued to the floor the entire time he was there, and it felt like torture as I tried to walk. My steps were significantly heavier than I remembered them.
As we walked down the school corridors, I could feel my body systems returning to normal. Despite how fearful I was about him coming over, I was still not satisfied with the justice he meted out.
“Was that it? So we’re just going to leave like that?”
I regretted those words almost immediately as he turned and glared at me.
“Is there something else that you would like to do?
His voice was the iciest that it had been since I’ve ever known him.
perhaps you would like to fight the principal for a change?”
I pouted and lowered my head. It was obvious that he was still very angry at me and was not in the mood for my sassiness.
“I’m sorry,” I said solemnly, but he said nothing.
For some reason, I would have preferred his scolding to this bitter silence.
We soon got out to where the car was parked. He opened the door while I entered on my own and sat on the seat that was furthest away from the door that he had opened for me.
He came in and lowered himself on the seat, and the silence hung between us again for a few more minutes before he finally spoke.
“I heard the principal’s rendition of the story, but now, I want to hear yours. What exactly happened?”
I took a deep breath and began my narration of how they pushed me into the corridor and began to insult me in front of the whole school, telling me how much of a disgrace I was to be sleeping with my stepfather. I had tried to walk away, but Lexi threw the first punch, and then Dina followed. In my defence, I had to fight back.
Once I finished the story, I saw Andre’s eyes darken.
“How dare they? I think you should have beaten them up a little more.”
His comment swept away my fears, and a slight smirk crept on my lips.
“You’re one to talk. Just a few minutes ago, you were taunting me, telling me to go and fight the principal. You were literally boiling because I beat them up.”
“That was because I had no idea what they said to my mate,” he retorted defensively.
I smiled in satisfaction, but my joy was short-lived, and a sad, sinking feeling seeped into my soul. I could feel tears in my eyes. I felt a gentle touch on my chin as Andre turned my head to face his.
“Olivia, what’s wrong?”
I couldn’t hold in my emotions anymore, and I burst into tears as I spoke.
“Andre, I don’t think we should do this. I don’t think we can be this couple that the pack wants. Everything is working out horribly.”
He looked at me with confusion.
“What are you talking about? Everything is working out just fine…”
“You don’t understand, Andre. Everyone hates me. They think I’m a disgrace. It’s not just Dina and Lexi. The whole school thinks I’m a whore and a slut. You should have seen the way teachers glared at me when they came into class. I could even hear them snickering in the corridors when I walked past. As long as we are together, these things are always going to keep happening. People are always going to look down on me, look down on us. They will never accept me.”
I curled into a ball and began to cry. My whole body shook as hot tears rolled down my face.
I felt Andre’s palm rub my back, trying to comfort me.
“Listen, princess. They will accept you, but it will take time. Regardless of what anyone thinks, I think you are amazing.”
I stopped crying and wiped my eyes. When I looked at his face, his emerald green eyes sparkled with sincerity and kindness.
He cupped my face in his hands and planted a soft kiss on my forehead. Since the first day that I met you, apart from your beauty, I noticed that there was something special about you. I couldn’t place what it was, but that was what drew me to you, and it still draws me to you. Olivia, you’re going to make an amazing Luna. But getting to that position is going to take time and patience. But always know that I have faith in you.”
He drew me in closer, and I rested my head on his chest, taking solace in his comforting heartbeat.
“Olivia, I have waited for you for twenty years, and I know that the moon goddess gave me a mate who is nothing less than perfect.”
I hugged him tighter and buried my head in his chest.
“But why? Why did you have to wait for so long? It’s not like people still believe in fated mates anymore.”
“Well, I believe,” he said softly. “I believe in fated mates, and I was right to believe them because the moon goddess gave me the most wonderful person in the world.”
His words brought tears to my eyes, and I sobbed softly in his chest. How could I be this lucky? Why did the moon goddess have to give me someone as perfect as him? But at the same time, why was the moon Goddess making this so complicated for us?
He stroked my hair lovingly, and I felt my sadness disappear, but I was still filled with worry and self-doubt.
“Andre, it means a lot to me that you believe in me, but I don’t think I’m sure about myself. I barely have my wolf, and I haven’t figured her out yet.”
My sadness came again, but Andre’s warm arms wrapped around me, and I battled hard to chase them off.
“You know what. Let me take you somewhere. Let me show you how perfect you really are.”
He didn’t wait for my reply, so I got into the driver’s seat and into the passenger seat beside him.
My curiosity was ignited as I watched him start the car, and we drove off.
His eyes were fixed on the road, and we were silent the entire time. My heart beat heavily in my chest, and a few minutes later, we pulled up in front of his mansion.
We got out of the car, and he grabbed my hand, taking me far into the beautiful compound. The sun was in the sky, and the air was crisp and fresh. Flowers were blooming in their full glory, and butterflies danced from petal to petal.
So we reached the garden. He unlocked the gates and ushered me inside, locking the gates behind us. I marvelled at the exotic flowers that grew there, and the scent of the flowers tinged the air with a fragrance that was rarer than any perfume.
I took in the beautiful scenery, and I finally turned to him with curiosity.
“What are you trying to show me?”
He smiled and took a step towards me.
“Take a breath, princess, and feel the wind rush through your hair. Now that you have your wolf, it will all begin to make sense.”
I didn’t understand what he was telling me, but I trusted him. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes.
“Alright, here goes nothing…”
