Andre’s POV
I saw the way her eyes rippled, and I slowly released the grip on her face.
I wanted to just swoop on her lips angrily and kiss my anger away.
I wasn’t angry at her but at that bastard that she had stayed with.
Did I trust him?
No.
I knew men. I knew how low they could sometimes stoop, especially for someone as beautiful as my mate. I was scared to lose her, and I didn’t want anyone to take advantage of her.
There was no way that I could believe that he had stayed this entire time with Olivia and not have thoughts about having her in his bed or about making…
No. Even the thoughts made me even more angry.
I slowly let go of her, and there was a brief silence in the room.
“Don’t talk about another man in front of me, Olivia.”
I watched her face twist funnily. I could tell that she knew I was jealous, but every effort she made to pacify me only gave me more reasons to worry.
“Andre, he is not another man. He is a ‘friend’ -a friend who happens to be a lot more supportive of what I want to do than you are. Why won’t you let me do this?”
I looked at Olivia, and her blue eyes became brighter. They shimmered with kindness and gullibility, which made me worried. I didn’t want anyone to take her for granted.
I was silent, and my eyes went back to that bastard. If he was so ‘good’, why did he have to change his cars? No one did that out of the blue.
People did that when they knew that their old car was being tracked, and they wanted to get off the radar.
And he didn’t choose just any car. He chose a very fast one. I knew that his reason for changing it was more than to treat Olivia to a luxury ride.
I scoffed slightly.
No. He couldn’t be trusted. Why couldn’t my kitten understand that? What did she see in him that made her trust him so completely? What spell has he placed on my princess?
“Andre, he has been doing everything to keep me safe and to make sure that I get to Elvis Pine. He is a good person. He is just a friend.”
I exhaled and shook my head.
“That’s my point, Olivia. He doesn’t know you. Why would he do all that for you? Why is he being so nice to you? No one is that nice.”
I watched her roll her eyes, and I immediately felt a pang of anger. My little kitten seemed to have gotten a little more stubborn since she left.
“There are good people out there, Andre. You have to relax. He was just helping…”
“He wants something from you. I just know that he does.” I could feel it in my bones. That guy had something up his sleeves.
“Well, what do I have to give?”
My kitten opened her palms, raised her shoulders in a shrug and looked at me with a face.
“He saw me running away from a gang. He should have known already that he would get nothing from me. I was low on cash. How much could he want?”
I felt my fingers grab the sheets in anger. My kitten failed to see the point, even when it was right before her.
“Olivia, that’s why I don’t trust him. He knows that he will get no money from you, yet he helped you. Don’t you see how dangerous it is? No one is that kind out of the blue.”
Suddenly, I remembered her pheromones. I saw how strongly it drew men to her. What was to say that he wasn’t drawn to her either?
“Your pheromones. When did you first realise that they were going haywire?”
“The day that I was first attacked. I was ganged on by four guys, and he came to save me. He then explained what happened to me and helped me get suppressants.”
I raised an eyebrow and looked at her sceptically.
“And is he not a man? He wasn’t affected by your scent?”
I could see the irritation on her face grow as I continued to press my questions.
“No. I’ve told you. He didn’t touch me. I asked him how he was able to resist, and he said that he had sisters like that and was pretty immune to the effects, or at least, had some control over himself.”
“Pfft.” I scoffed. He was clearly lying, and there was no way I could believe that bullshit.
I saw Olivia look up at me with soft eyes. Her hand grazed mine, and her fingers wrapped around mine slowly, and I felt a willingness to listen again.
“Just trust me. I’m sure that you will like him. He’s a good person. I know that there are bad people, but there are good people, too, and Jonas is one of them.”
I was still unconvinced and shook my head vehemently.
“Olivia, I think you are being very liberal and gullible about this. You are taking this too lightly and…”
Before I could finish, I felt her hand pull away from me swiftly.
I saw her eyes darkened and narrow, and she shifted away from me.
Her face reddened, and I could hear her breathing get faster.
“Gullible? That’s what you think of me now? Andre, just because I’m young doesn’t mean that I’m stupid. I met someone who helped me, and you can’t even be supportive of it. I know that we are mated, but just because of that silly bond, don’t you even think for a second that you can control my life. I’m not your puppet.”
I felt her words stab me in my heart. “Silly? You call our bond ‘silly’?”
I wanted her to take back those words and say it was a mistake, but she continued to spit more venom.
“It’s silly if you can’t let me live my life. I have a life, too. Why do you want to tie me down? I’m not your slave or your pet that you can choose to lock up in a cage.”
I glared at her. The anger and fury I felt were unlike any I had ever felt.
How dare she say that after all I have done for her? She called our connection silly because I didn’t let her waltz off with a random dude that she met on the street.
“Don’t cross the line, Olivia,” I warned gently, doing everything I could to hold my temper in.
