Olivia’s POV
I had breakfast with Andre in his room, and I glanced over at him. He stopped eating and gave me a little smile.
“Ummm… I am going to be staying quite late in school. I need to do something with some new friends.”
Andre’s smile quickly disappeared, and he looked quite stern and concerned.
“Who is this friend in question? It’s Jaxon, isn’t it?”
I saw his possessiveness begin to bubble, but I giggled and tried to look as unsuspicious as possible.
“No, I made some new friends. One is Emily, and the other is Victoria.”
Now that I mentioned two girls’ names, his frown quickly disappeared and was replaced with the kind smile that I always knew.
“Nice. That is very nice. I am so proud that you are making friends and getting to know people.” Clearly, he was relaxed that I wasn’t going to see another male.
“Thanks. It’s going to be a very late after-study class. So I guess you can tell Pierre not to bother picking me up from school.”
Andre smiled as he cut the steak that was on his plate.
“I think you can tell Pierre yourself as he’s dropping you off. And speaking of dropping off, I think you are running a bit late. You might need to hurry up.”
I looked at the time and gasped in shock. I really was late! I wolfed down the last bits of my food, gave Andre a rushed kiss and dashed out of his room to the car park where Pierre was waiting for me.
“Good morning, Miss Olivia,” said Pierre as he opened the door, and I got into the back seat.
“Good morning, Pierre. I wanted to let you know that you don’t need to bother picking me up from school today. I’m having a study session with some friends, and I’ll be back a little late. I have also gotten the Alpha’s approval on it.”
He nodded and turned on the ignition.
“No problem, Miss Olivia. We better hurry. You are almost ten minutes late.”
As the car sped out of the compound and down the road. My heart was beating fast. Today was the day; today was the day I was going to run away.
For the past two days, my plan has gone according to plan. My bags were with Jaxon, and we were safely tucked in his car. I had some money and my dad’s letter.
I was determined to find his killer one way or the other. They had taken him away from me, and it was because of them that I was stuck here with my no-good mother. They had to pay.
We soon got to school and just in time. I waved Pierre goodbye and waited for him to turn around the corner and disappear before I dashed off to the rendezvous point we had decided on.
I met him walking down a cluster of streets like a normal day and snuck off to his sister’s cafe with him. His car was parked in front, and I double-checked his trunk to ensure I had gotten all my bags.
“Are we good to go?” He asked as I finished my little inspection.
I nodded and got into the driver-side passenger seat. Jaxon got in and started the ignition, and in less than no time, we were whizzing down the streets towards the outskirts of the pack.
My heart was pounding louder in my chest. I couldn’t believe that I was doing this. I was running away. Initially, it was to get away from the mysterious person who had been following me and leaving me unseasonal notes, but now, it was to find my dad’s killer.
I had spent most of last night reading the letter, trying to decipher any hidden codes, but it was futile. I was still back to square one, and all I knew was that my father had been murdered.
“Olivia, are you all right?” asked Jaxon, stealing a glance.
I nodded quickly and tried to calm my nerves. I had never done this before, and honestly, I didn’t even have a plan in mind. But I knew I would make one as the journey went on. I just had to trust in my instincts.
We crossed the park border and continued to drive silently. The wind whipped my hair, and the car radio played some cool music. I closed my eyes and tried to focus on the calmness of the tune, but in my mind’s eye, Andre’s furious face was etched. I could only imagine what he would do once he discovered I was gone.
“We are here.”
Jaxon slowed down, and I opened my eyes and saw we were at a bus stop.
“The bus gets here by 9:00 every morning. And lucky for you, we are ten minutes early.”
We got out of the car, and Jaxon helped me take my things out of the trunk and place them beside me. I stood near the bus stop.
Once I was settled, he looked at me with a longing.
“I am going to miss you, Olivia. Good luck, and I hope to see you soon.”
I looked at Jaxon and almost wanted to shed tears. I had lied to him about where I was going and even when I was returning, and he was helping me.
“Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for me, Jaxon. I will miss you too.”
He waved at me and got into his car. I watched him hesitate before he finally started the engine and drove off. I watched him disappear slowly from sight.
I was alone; there was no going back. I stood quietly and waited for the bus.
Now, my journey has really begun.
