In the plane
It didn’t take long for the plane to take off after all of the passengers had settled in. Nicholas sat quietly in the first class section of the plane. The place wasn’t filled up so he had time to sit quietly and drown in his thoughts.
The past few days had been one of the best ever in his life. The short time he spent with his darling wife was the most memorable time he had ever had even though it was just for a short while.
For the first time in his life, he could finally live like a normal person, act like a normal person and smile like someone without any worries in the world and that was mainly because of Catherine.
She always have a way of making him forget all of his problems with just her presence. If she wasn’t with him, he was sure that his life wouldn’t be as peaceful as this.
Even though now, what he was plotting for years was finally coming to reality, his mind was elsewhere. He kept on thinking about Catherine; how she would be able to cope without him.
Even though he had already given her all the evidence to finally get rid of Amara like he had promised, he still couldn’t concentrate on his work. He was scared for her safety.
He knew that someone as sneaky and ambitious like Amara wouldn’t just give up easily so he was afraid of what she could do to Catherine. If only he was there with her.
“What if I had waited for her to carry out her plans before leaving?” He couldn’t help but ask himself.
He picked up his phone and wanted to send Catherine a message using the plane’s wifi but stopped himself halfway. He realised that he needed Catherine to solve this problem herself.
She wasn’t a weakling that needs help everytime as he’s seen what she could do. At that point, she might not even like him butting in as he was also busy with his own problems.
At least, Fiona is there with her in case any problems arise so he has nothing to worry about. All he needs to do is to quickly finish the job he had in Washington and hurry back home to his wife.
He sighed softly and rubbed his temple tiredly before looking out the window. It’s not going to be an easy battle.
I stood there, watching his back until he disappeared into the crowd. My heart ached with longing, but I knew that no matter the distance, our love would remain unchanged.
After standing at the spot for a long while, I decided it was time to leave. I walked sadly out of the airport’s building and went to where I parked my car only to find Fiona standing next to it.
I wasn’t surprised to see her there because I was sure Nicholas would have texted her to come get me before he left. She bowed her head respectfully at me when she saw me approaching and opened the car’s back door for me.
After we were both settled in, she drove off. Through out the ride back home, my heart felt really heavy and was filled with longing and reluctance after bidding farewell to Nicholas.
It wasn’t like he wasn’t coming back but I didn’t know when his fight with the Cartwrights will end so I wasn’t really sure of when he will be back. One thing I knew was that he was surely going to win the fight between him and the Carthwrights.
Afterall, he did in my past life. I just hope that the future wouldn’t change this time. Because I was able to change a lot of events in this life, things that didn’t happen in my past life happen in this life.
Like finding out about Andrew’s infidelity with numerous women, Amara’s withdrawal from the company and her poisoning me. I just hope it wouldn’t be the same with Nicholas now that I am in his life.
I didn’t want to be an issue to him and change his destiny. If something bad were to happen, and his future was likely to change, I wouldn’t think twice in leaving.
Even though it might hurt me, I didn’t want him to suffer like me. He has suffered enough pains in his life and I wouldn’t want to be an hindrance to his success.
After driving for some minutes, the car finally stopped. I looked out the window and saw that we were already in the Dyson’s mansion. I was so deep in my thoughts that I didn’t realise we were already home.
I didn’t know why dad still hadn’t removed Amara from the house yet but I made precautionary actions before I left just in case Amara strikes at dad. I made Fiona watch out for my dad to prevent Amara’s sharp claws from reaching him.
Fiona got out and opened the door for me and I stepped out. It’s been a week since I left home but it felt like ages. The mansion was really quiet like no one was in.
That was really shocking because even though it’s just dad and Amara at home, the Dyson’s mansion never looked empty or lonely because of the numerous servants dad had.
“Where’s everyone?” I couldn’t help but ask Fiona.
“I don’t know. The place was filled up before I left. I’ll go check the servant’s quarters.” She suggested and left.
I walked into the mansion, calling out for dad to get an explanation. The living room was also empty which was more surprising. I was expecting Amara to be there and acting like the lady of the house like she always does.
I walked up the stairs and was about to head to dad’s study when someone suddenly pulled me back. I looked over only to see Amara. I scoffed in anger and pulled my hand away from her hold.
Just when I thought I wouldn’t be seeing her. I was about to leave when; “Where have you been?” She questioned like she was my mother.
I wasn’t in the mood to exchange words with her but it seemed like she had the whole time in the world. She told in front of me, stopping me from leaving.
“I just asked you a question didn’t I? Where have you been for the past week?” She asked again.
“Since when did it become your business to know my whereabouts? Are you my mother?” I asked her.
“Hell no! How can I give birth to an annoying and self absorbed brat like you.” She uttered as she eyed me in disgust.
“At least I don’t have to sleep with a man old enough to be my father for money.” I muttered lowly but loud enough for her to hear me.
Her face grew red in anger and embarrassment when she heard that and it only made me smile.
“Really?” She asked as her expression suddenly changed into a smug one. What’s she up to now?
“Aren’t you the one following Nicholas around for some cheap change like your father couldn’t afford to give you what you want? At least I’m married to your father.”
Those words were clearly meant to insult and hurt me but I couldn’t feel any at that moment because all she was saying didn’t make sense.
“Are you done?” I asked in a nonchalant manner and was only made her more mad.
“Well, the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. Afterall, you’re mother was the one that kept chasing after your father for some cheap change. That’s why she became pregnant out of wedlock and had you. What do you expect when you have a whore for a moth….” She wasn’t able to finish her words when I suddenly slapped her hard on the face.
She screamed in pain and fell down the stairs. It all happened so fast that I couldn’t react in time, watching Amara tumble down. At the bottom of the stairs, Amara clutched her stomach and moaned in pain, blood seeping between her legs.
I stared in horror for what my anger had caused. She’s pregnant!!
